I'm a wife, mother, and bona fide Southern belle. Published author, expert corn bread maker, and Squirrel Princess.

I live in Tulsa, though I was born in Mississippi. I moved to the Sooner State when I was seventeen and met my soul mate and best friend not long after. I've retained a little of my Mississippi accent though most people think I'm from Texas. (?) Rob and I have been married for over twenty years and have a son--a mom proclaimed prodigy, of course!

I love homemade tacos, nail polish, and romance novels--not necessarily in that order. I'm a big fan of country music, a staunch proponent of saving the Oxford comma, and I'm shamefully obsessed with all things Harry Potter.

I believe that God is love. I guess that's why I adore romances.

I have always been intrigued with the Amish culture, their gentle ways and slower-paced lifestyle. (And I love, love, love the fact that they stay married for their lifetime.) But until recently I never thought to blend this interest with my penchant for romance. Okay, okay, I'm a bit old-fashioned and even enjoy the gender roles that are present in this culture. I love to cook and take care of my family. Yes, that's me June Cleaver with a laptop.

I dislike people trying to convince me to read the Twlight series (I'll get to it or I won't, either way I'm good with it), gratuitous violence, and strawberry ice cream. (I know I'm alone on this last one, and again, I'm good with it.)

Favorite movies--(besides HP) French Kiss, Maid of Honor, A Lot Like Love, Just Married, and Sweet Home Alabama. Oh, and Miss Congeniality, Sabrina (both versions) and a 1940's movie called Dear Ruth. If you haven't seen it, you should! A-dorable. Anything with Doris Day and most all of Marilyn's and Audrey's.

A beautifully enriching story showing love doesn't come easy no matter who you are. When the unexpected happens, being forced into marriage is something neither Jonah or Sarah wants. Jonah knows Sarah is a kind soul and has a heart of gold. She is a beautifully strong willed woman who doesn't feel that Jonah loves her or wants to be married to her.A beautifully written romance showing how the struggles are real but faith, forgiveness and perseverance wins in the end.

From the very first page right through the epilogue this book held my attention and quickly the pages flew, only now I miss this story and want more. We catch up all those we have come to love in Wells Landing Oklahoma, our tractor driving Amish friends, and see how things have changed and yet stayed the same in their lives.
This is Jonah’s story and the Amish teacher Sarah, a woman who has loved and wanted Jonah forever, and has previously made herself a pest at doing so. Now a moment of compassion and passion and these two are headed for the altar, but do they even have a chance?
What a rocky road these two set upon and you will have to wonder if they will ever end up on the same path? Will Sarah end up the being the “town oddball”, and take in mending? Or will Jonah end up embracing the English life, and leave the community. The answers are here and we are along for the journey that these two take towards, or away for one another, they do both.
I have loved my stay in this community and getting to know everyone here, and really hate to say goodbye, makes me want to go visit Oklahoma.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.

They were married bound for life. The only thing that they had in common was time. All things change with time. A farmer's mentality, with time, seeds became plants, and plants became more. With time the seasons changed. All things with time.

Sarah Yoder has always loved Jonah from afar. A crush that was well known in the community but never returned. However, circumstances change between them when they both needed a friend and in their weakness; they succumb to a bad decision that they cannot deny because of their faith and the Amish way.

To make it right, they both agree to marriage and in their young marriage must learn to trust each other. There is much tension as they both fight their hurt and misunderstanding to make a life a together. It speaks of what love really is where there is no love but only mistrust. How each of them comes to discover love not in the emotional way but a way that is eternal.

I loved this story and the how the pain turned something ugly to something beautiful and lovely. How Jonah and Sarah became intentional above love and commitment and discovered the fruit that last forever. I highly recommend.

A Special Thank You to Kensington and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

A captivating Amish romance that took an unexpected turn (for me anyway) early on and kept me on tenterhooks until the very end. Jonah and Sarah's path to love doesn't come easily. There's angst aplenty between unfortunate circumstances, meddlesome family and communication breakdowns. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!

Jonah is holding onto past hurts longer than necessary, finding forgiveness elusive as he tries to move forward in a life he hadn't planned. Sarah's secret dream has become a reality -- but with an unexpected bleak twist that has left her reeling. It isn't until they both find peace through their faith that they are able to find peace together. A beautiful, uplifting sweet romance..

Marrying Jonah is book six from the Wells Landing series. I found this book to be the hardest to read of the series. Some of the plot I was able to really relate to and it tugged at my heart. Definitely worth a read. Four stars

Well, I have a new addition to my top favorite Amish books! Marrying Jonah was a truly wonderful story that was full of uncertainty, hope, heartache, confusion, and the possibility of a love growing out of not so perfect circumstances.

If you haven’t read the other books in the series, you will still be able to enjoy Marrying Jonah. If you have read the other books, especially Lorie’s Heart, then you will understand what Jonah has gone through.

I really felt for these two characters. Sarah and Jonah both had plenty of hurt and confusion that they were carrying around. This story walks gently through their relationship, exploring the delicate nature of their new marriage. I was really impressed with the way the author wove such complicated emotions into the novel. This is definitely a story I will be re-reading many times!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Marrying Jonah ( Wells Landing #6)
By Amy Lillard
Marrying Jonah is the sixth book in Wells Landing series by Amy Lillard. Wow, what a wonderful love story Ms Lillard has weaved. The story and the characters were easy to read and follow. I was hooked right right at the start and could not read fast enough to see what was going to happen next. This is one of those page turner stories you do not want to put down. This is Sarah and Jonah’s love story. Sarah has loved Jonah even when he was seeing his girlfriend Lorie, and she ran away with another man. This is hard for Jonah . He is torn between his love and his commitment as an Amish man. Sarah has been an listening ear for Jonah . The Amish is not perfect. I caught myself with tears in my eyes several times. Even though Sarah is not the woman Jonah wants, will he ever see who Sarah really is , or is it to late for Jonah?
I was given a complimentary ARC copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review.

Marrying Jonah is the 6th amazing story written by Amy Lillard in her The Wells Landing series. All I can say is WOW what a powerfully inspiring love story. The author has done an outstanding job telling this story with her unique writing style. I became so involved in this story I really felt part of it. The characters are so likeable and realistic. They are just the right mix to make this such an outstanding story. The storyline never stalls out and definitely kept me turning pages.

Sarah Yoder is such a strong dynamic Amish woman and her strong will definitely gets in her way throughout this story. She knows who she loves and what she wants. On the other hand Sarah as such a sweet caring disposition that she puts others before herself. Jonah Miller is a very sad mixed up young Amish man and has lost the one person he hoped to spend his life with. Sarah has had a strong crush on Jonah for many years and has held on to hopes and prayers someday he would love her in return. When an unexpected turn of events bring these two together they never imagined how it would all turn out. Their journey is filled with faith, loss, love, and forgiveness. This is one powerful story that proves how being strong in beliefs can pull you through anything.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a n outstanding story that I can highly recommend to others. This story brought me to tears.

Congratulations to Amy Lillard for writing another fantastic story of love for her readers enjoyment.

Oh my!!! What a beautiful story!!!!
And most of this I can definitely relate to!!
I was heartbroken for Sarah. Sarah truly thought the world had come to an end. She is stubborn and can't see past the end of her nose. If she can't have her way then as far as she's concerned, neither can anyone else. (A little like me). Sarah is like most of us.
Jonah is blinded by his love for Lorie and can't understand why everyone else has moved on but him. It seems as though time has stood still for Jonah until Sarah comes along.
Suddenly, it seems as through it has meant for them to be together for life.
Sometimes in life we have to learn our lessons the hard way. Whether it's not the right or wrong way.
I sometimes wish the English world was like the Amish. Divorce isn't allowed among the Amish. I think I'm in a way, that's a good thing. It makes us want to stop and take a good look at ourselves and is this the right person for me?
But in this case, that question didn't matter. I think God had a reason for these too people to be together.
Time. That's what that word men's in this story.
Time is of the essence, Time has no meaning in grief or anything else for that matter.
I have been where Sarah has gone. It's no easy thing because it will always make you wonder.
I am where Sarah is now when it comes to in laws. In laws are no fun and hard to get along with.
I didn't realize that I had a friend in my father in law had passed away.
God has a way of working things out.
Sometimes it takes certain things for us to see what we have right in front of us and then it hits us and sometimes hard too.
I loved this story because there were too many things that actually hit home for me.
Amy has a wonderful talent and it shows in her writing. That's why I was excited for this book to come out. I wasn't disappointed!
I strongly recommend this book for people who love reading Amish stories.
I received a complimentary copy and was in no way required to review this book.

Any Lillard penned another heartfelt story with this final book in her Wells Landing series. Marrying Jonah reeled me in from the first page through the epilogue, which provided a charming update of all the beloved characters in Wells Landing. Marrying Jonah can be read as a standalone, but I would encourage readers to read the enter series. Jonah Miller and Sarah Yoder lives were intertwined since childhood, then toss in some unexpected events with Jonah being depressed and Sarah offering a listening ear and friendship. Did the trip to the family pond late that night result in something more than talking? How will Jonah and Sarah handle their future with community members talking about them? Can they find true love for one another amidst all the twists and turns that kept happening to them? The characters are realistic and faced true to life issues with normal reactions. My emotions were connected with the hero and heroine throughout their story. Their faith was challenged at times but they knew in their hearts and from their families that they had to rely on God to see them through, no matter the pain and losses. The ending of this story is a beautiful illustration of forgiveness and surrender to one another and God’s love.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review but have expressed my honest opinion of this astonishing story.

MARRYING JONAH WELLS LANDING #6
AMY LILLARD

Sarah Yoder has always had eyes for Jonah Miller; but Jonah Miller had his heart set on Lorie Kauffman. When Lorie marries an Englisher, and leaves Wells Landing, Jonah becomes very depressed.

While walking home from a volleyball game, Jonah gives Sarah a ride home; but the two end up at Millers Pond where Sarah listens while Jonah pours his heart out; but something unexpected happens that night that changes both Sarah's and Jonah's life forever.

I am not going into detail about Jonah and Sarah's heartbreak and struggles, because I do not want to spoil the outcome of this great story, all I can say is the story will make it hard for you to stop reading. For myself, I could not put the book down and ended staying up until 2 am to finish the book.

Marrying Jonah is a well written heartfelt story of faith, love, trust and loss.

Marrying Jonah was well written by Amy Lillard and I would highly recommend this book and the other books in the Wells Landing series.

Take a trip to Wells Landing. This is book #6 in the Wells Landing Series, but could be read as a stand alone story. In Marrying Jonah we follow the Love story of Sarah and Jonah. Sarah loved him long before anyone knew. He was torn between his lost love Lorie and his commitment to his faith as an Amish man. With Lorie lost to the English world Jonah needed to move on. Then there is the fateful night where Sarah's hidden love and Jonah's need for a friend collide. Will their consequences be enough to built a marriage, a love and a life or will Mamm's wisdom "This is the beginning of your story. It might be a little rocky, but you must own up to it. But from here...well, the rest of your story depends on you. You can make it happy or not." Will Jonah and Sarah find their way to happiness in Wells Landing? Do not miss this story. I offer this honest review of this book by Amy Lillard freely and thank her for allowing me to read this story. I still love Wells Landing and the stories you have shared.

Through Amy Lillard, I enjoy reading these books set in an Amish community in Oklahoma, certainly a non traditional area for Amish. Though the Amish are now settling in more states around the country in efforts to expand beyond farming or to find more fertile farmland. The fictional community of Wells Landing seems to reflect their desire to try to live off the land as much as possible while still embracing some necessary limited technology. In "Marrying Jonah", we become reacquainted with Jonah, who was Lorie Kauffman's boyfriend before she left Wells Landing for her newly discovered "English" family and new love. Jonah is trying to recover from Lorie's departure, and is uncomfortable around the local teacher Sarah-- Sarah has never made it a secret that she cares for him. One night they begin talking while at a youth gathering, and the unintended occurs. This leads to Jonah proposing out of honor. Jonah and Sarah marry amidst the concern of both their families, in their desire to do what is right. They strive to find a way to become closer to each other for the sake of the baby she is carrying. Just when a brighter future seems possible for them as a couple, a tragedy occurs. Their different ways of facing tragedy lead to misunderstanding and hurt on both sides. I encourage readers to pick up "Marrying Jonah" to learn what happens between Sarah and Jonah and how they find their way after tragedy and loss. Amy Lillard, as always, weaves a multifaceted and beautiful story.

I finished it, but at the end, I chucked it at a wall.
Always the sign of a one-star review.

Sarah is a brat. She's obsessed over Jonah for years, publicly. She's done a piss-poor job as a teacher for the Amish kids in the community, so she's on probation. She's spoiled and coddled and obnoxious, and for some reason, Amy Lillard thinks we want to read about this bee-otch. I'm not sure why.

Jonah got ditched by his longtime love, and he's hurting. SOOOOO hurting for SOOOOOO long. It goes on for months and maybe years - he follows her into the Englisch world to try to figure out what the lure is, he's jaded and parties and refuses to let go and on, and ON, and ON it goes.

Until the night he finds out that Sarah's no longer crushing on him, either. Then he has to get HER attention back, too - and he does it via sex by a pond with his 'groupie'. And then he's shocked and pissed that he did that, and rejects HER, ignoring/avoiding her, and treating her like crap. So - hey! - he's a real winner, too.

Sarah ends up pregnant, and everything awful that could possibly ever be written commences. The people gossip about her. She has to confess before his parents, her parents, the bishop, then the congregation. She loses her job for being a tramp. She's banned for two weeks as a communal punishment, and then forced to marry Jonah, who won't even look at her. His parents hate her guts and are openly obvious about it. She's absolutely miserable.

Frankly? It'd've been better if she'd've taken the shunning and gone English. At least Ezra/Sadie, Lorie/husband, and Luke/fiancee would've been nice to her and helped her. NOBODY was being nice to her as a married woman amongst the Amish.

The ENTIRE BOOK was Jonah shitting on her. He never once told her he cared about her, never touched her, never bothered to let her know his feelings, never once asked about the baby or how she was feeling, he missed her doctor's appointments... he was a JACKass. Even at the end... she had to go on an 'implied' love that was 'coming thru' because he couldn't bother himself to say he loved her.

Basically, a story about people in misery, suffering, being odious to each other, and then staying together to rinse and repeat forever. It. Was. AWFUL. The entire book was awful.

And after a while, Sarah becomes this raging harpy who's up Jonah's backside about every little thing, she's snapping at him, he's yelling at her... he's running off with Englisch people because nobody's nice to him, she's locking herself in because nobody's nice to her...

SKIP THIS. You will have a happier life for it.
Trust me - this was NOT a pleasant read.

An Amish Story With a Different Twist

I guess I expected a sweet, gentle story about true love. But this story portrays the worst side of people. From the Amish girl who embarrassed herself by obsessing over this guy for years, to the guy then taking advantage of her. The story is filled with her misunderstanding everything he does and doesn’t believe anything he says. She is very rude and disrespectful, but claims she loves him, but won’t even let him be kind to her. I didn’t read the last few pages of the book. I was done with her attitude.

Marring Jonah is book number 6 in The Wells Landing series by Amy Lillard. There is just something about them that draws me to them and this fictional town. I feel as though I am feeling everything happen to me right along with the characters. Jonah and Sarah's lives filled with heartache, longing, faith and so much more. Be sure to grab you a glass of sweet tea and some tissues while you kick back and enjoy reading Marrying

Marrying Jonah by Amy Lillard is the sixth book in the Wells Landing series. Sarah Yoder has been smitten with Jonah and everyone knows it. But Jonah is in love with Lorie Kauffman. Unfortunately, Lorie decided to leave the Amish and recently married another. Jonah is still pining for Lorie. Sarah has decided to turn over a new leaf. She is going to ignore Jonah and find a way to move on. One night after a youth event, Jonah happens upon Sarah who is walking home (the young man who was driving her home became fresh). While driving Sarah home, Sarah asks if they cannot find a way to be friends. They end up stopping by the lake to talk, and Jonah ends up seeking comfort from Sarah. Six weeks later, Sarah discovers that she is with child. Jonah does the honorable thing and offers to marry Sarah (after adjusting to the news). She wanted Jonah as her husband, but Sarah wanted him to love her. The last thing she wants is a man who does not love her in return. Unfortunately, they are not given an alternative and are quickly married. The marriage gets off to a rocky start when the pair must live with Jonah’s parents. Gertie Miller, Jonah’s mother, is not partial to Sarah and makes her feelings quite evident. Jonah decides to make things easier by finding a house for them. Slowly, Jonah begins to see the kind, caring and lovable woman he married. But then tragedy strikes, and it looks like their relationship is doomed. Is there a chance for these two-young people? If they are to have a future, Jonah needs to prove his love to Sarah and open the lines of communication.

Marrying Jonah is a sweet and nicely written Amish novel. I liked the characters and the storyline. It was interesting to see Jonah’s reaction to Sarah once she quit paying attention to him. The book had a good flow and can be read in a few hours. There are some good lessons in this novel (forgiveness, doing the right thing). Readers get to see how important love and communication are to a relationship. While Marrying Jonah is the sixth book in the series, it can be read alone. Each book is about a different set of characters. I give Marrying Jonah 4 out of 5 stars. I did become frustrated at times at the lack of communication between Sarah and Jonah. I wanted to tell these two to grow up and start talking. Sarah, though, did not make things easy for Jonah. Marrying Jonah is my favorite book in the series. It is a moving novel with a special ending. I really appreciated the epilogue and how the author provided updates on the characters from the other novels in the Wells Landing series.

Book provided by the author

Once again Amy Lillard does not disappoint with her latest tale in the Wells Landing series.  Marrying Jonah is the sixth book in this series and I loved how we were reunited with the residents of the small town and were able to catch up on their lives.  Jonah and Sarah along with their families are front and center.  While Jonah and Sarah both felt that the circumstances surrounding their need to be married was heartbreaking and also a sin there were so many possibilities if only they would embrace their new marriage.  Since they couldn't and had a hard time communicating as well it was a very emotional read with tears, hurt and anger at the forefront.   Every time they took a step or two forward they would take at least that many back.  There were times I was hopeful that they'd reconnect but for most of the story it seemed that they were at odds and it felt that it was more Sarah's fault than Jonah's.

There were quite a few twists and turns to the story including how Jonah's mother looked at the marriage and at Sarah.  Her feelings that Sarah and her family were "fancy" Amish seemed to be more envy than anything.  I loved how Buddy, Jonah's younger brother who has Down's Syndrome, was portrayed and was always in the thick of things.  Sarah seemed to get wisdom passed to her by everyone whereas Jonah tried to make things right not knowing where he even went wrong.

There are family and friends, the Church, Jonah's English friend, April, the homes, the gatherings, arguments, sadness, unhappiness, depression, cluelessness, food, tender moments, laughter, romance and love.  There was wonderful closure especially with the epilogue that took me by surprise.  I look forward to reading many more books by Lillard, one of my favorite authors. I hope that we'll be back in Wells Landing again and again.

Worth the Wait!

Well it finally arrived! Jonah Miller’s story is finally being told! Marrying Jonah, the latest in Amy Lillard’s Wells Landing series, is worth the wait. Once you get started, you’ll be sucked in.

Jonah Miller is still recovering from Lorie Kauffman’s rejection (not only of him, but their entire Amish community.) Sarah Yoder has loved Jonah for YEARS. But those days are over – she’s turning over a new leaf and leaving Jonah behind. But the results of one great misjudgment put both of their lives into a tailspin. Will they find true love? Will Jonah stay Amish? He wouldn’t be the first to jump the fence from Wells Landing. Will beauty come from the ashes? Read and find out!

I was given Marrying Jonah in exchange for my honest review. It was so worth the wait. At first I was unsure what to make of it – the plot reminded me of another Amish-genre novel I have read recently and it seemed to move slow. And then I realized: NO, it is not like the other novel (at all) – it’s better! Lillard steadily created some very unforgettable characters. Marrying Jonah is a solid, well-crafted novel. The characters have rich layers and depth. Before you know it, the novel is over and you’re craving for more. The ending was well thought-out and memorable. A definite must-read.

(Although characters from previous novels are mentioned, it is not distracting. This title may be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend catching up on the Wells Landing crew!)

Loved it!

This book will forever be one of my favorites because it got me through a difficult time dealing with health problems. I love Amy Lillard's writing because she paints such realistic characters. You'll find yourself rooting for them, and genuinely liking them. This is the story of a couple, Jonah and Sarah. But more importantly, it's the story of a community. A community of human beings, not extraordinary people. A community of people who are seeking God's will in their lives. Sometimes they come up with their own ideas instead of waiting for God's leading, but they have the best of intentions. Jonah and Sarah start out their lives together very awkwardly. They have so many challenges, including gossip in the community and an interfering mother-in-law. Each time I had to put this book down, I found myself wondering how it would turn out, and I felt compelled to come back and find out exactly that. Amy Lillard's books always contain a little bit of excitement and intrigue. In that way, she reminds me of one of my forever favorite authors, Grace Livingston Hill.

One night changes their entire lives...

Amy Lillard has done it once again. Stripping away the Englisher illusion that the Amish life is all simplicity and endless tranquility. In each of her Well Landing Romances she has taken on tough issues that face Englisher and Amish alike. Marrying Jonah does this to a T. Both Sarah and Jonah struggle, they are flawed people and they have been deeply hurt. This is a beautiful, poignant, sometimes funny, and sweet romance. If you are looking for a stereotypical Amish story you might want to look elsewhere. This book is a story of life, loss, and love. While it's not a true story, Marrying Jonah is a real story. One that I truly enjoyed reading, I couldn't seem to put down, and finished in nearly record time. Amy Lillard's Amish stories are some of the best that I've read and she is definitely a favorite author of that genre. So travel to Wells Landing, meet some old friends and make some new ones, and learn alongside Sarah and Jonah that the happily ever after beyond the I Do's sometimes takes a lot of work to come true...

(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)

I loved this book. I had to keep reading to find out what happened. It is a must read and we find out that things are not as they seem.

Wow, is all I can think after reading "Marry Jonah" by Amy Lillard. This book definitely isn't what I was excepting! I can honestly say "I loved It"! It was a story that has heartache and sorrow and joy.
My favorite character has to be Buddy because he knows what was right even more so than the adults, Annie is in second place for being a favorite character of mine! Oh, I wanted to give Jonah's mom a real heart to heart talk a couple of times while reading this book, yes, you know she was my least favorite person in the story.

I feel like this book was the best of the series! I hope that more books are coming! This book covers issues that isn't covered in many Amish stories.

Amy Lillard hit a home run with this book!

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and these opinions are my own.

What happens when you have a girl with a crush on a guy and he doesn’t notice, a guy who is in love with a girl and she doesn’t notice and a one-night stand. As we go back to Wells Landing, Oklahoma, we find Jonah and Sarah are wondering that same thing after they find themselves in a compromising situation. As with the other books in this series, you will relate to the characters pain as they deal with misunderstandings and a feeling of hopelessness. When they see their friends so happy, will Sarah and Jonah find contentment? Will they learn the lesson of forgiveness? Author Amy Lillard writes books of hope, and I am hopeful this series never ends. I’m always ready to visit Wells Landing! You will be, too.
