“Why, Mama, Why,” asks Little Giraffe as she tries to make sense of the world around her. Little Giraffe is new to the world, and she has all kinds of questions for Mother Giraffe. Sometimes the answers are easy and sometimes they’re hard. It doesn’t take long for Little Giraffe to realize that life is full of lessons and Mother Giraffe is a loving guide.
Little Giraffe is a baby animal just beginning to learn new experiences and how to handle them. From figuring out how to sleep with such a long neck, to staying clear of a prowling lion, Little Giraffe is growing up and Mother Giraffe is guiding her toward health and wellbeing.
A similarity that most mammals share is the foundation of family life, and the timeless bond between mother and child. “Why, Mama, Why” is a great bedtime story for children with sleep issues, soothing and relaxing as it focuses on growing and learning and the security and consistency of family life that comes in all different shapes and sizes. Warm and engaging images complement the story and make it a book kids and parents want to read again and again.
Children are full of wonder, and during the preschool and kindergarten years a favorite word is “Why.” As children try to make sense of the world around them, parents and grandparents are trying to guide and explain as best they can the beauty and complexity of the world. This is a story that captures those beginning moments of growing up and learning the facts of life. “Why are we here Mama?” Little Giraffe asks Mother Giraffe. “We are here to live and learn,” is the response, and as the story unfolds, Little Giraffe has many opportunities to learn, some are easy and some are difficult, but together they make the best of it.
Little Giraffe and Mother Giraffe aren’t zoo animals born into the safety of their cage, instead they are learning day-to-day health and wellbeing in the wild. Follow the learning adventures of mother and child as they navigate new life experiences in this learning and growing kids’ book where a baby giraffe learns skills and values as she grows.
Beautiful pictures capture the warmth of the landscape and a relationship blooming. A great story for teaching the importance of family life as a guide to developing skills and values in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, and homeschool children. For parents looking for books to use as a homeschooling resource, “Why, Mama, Why” goes well with activities for listening, learning, growing, creativity, encouragement, perseverance, and courage.
“Get back up and try again,” is an important lesson parents teach children in their early years, not only humans but animals as well. In “Why, Mama, Why,” Little Giraffe struggles with all of the new things she has to do, but Mother Giraffe is there to guide her when she falls, or needs help to reach dinner, or when she’s startled by what she sees looking back at her in the water’s reflection. The day-to-day lessons are easier to understand with practice, but the real test comes when Little Giraffe is pursued by a hungry lion. Mother Giraffe has to calmly teach that at times it’s necessary to run and at other times it’s necessary to stand with courage to protect ourselves and those we love.
After a long day of growing and learning, mother and child settle down to rest and look out at the peaceful and calm sunset, closing the day with lessons learned and efforts well spent. This book was written for kids ages 3,4,5,6, and 7, and for parents looking for a book that answers some of those growing up & facts of life questions that young children are struggling to understand.
Why Mama Why....does the artist leave such a mess around the figures? It was nice characters but the artist didn't erase the outside pencil lines and every picture has this mess around each character and it is very distracting! Even in the all color sunset scenes, the pencil lines still show up! This would've been a much cuter story if the images weren't so messed up.
African Savannah. Mother Giraffe (mother) welcomed her baby Little Giraffe (daughter) into the world. The 1st thing she must learn is to stand/walk. She kept telling momma Giraffe she couldn’t do it. A little encouragement seemed to work. Next, she was taught to eat the right/important things to make her grow & get stronger. The pond was next to get a drink of water. Mother Giraffe was laughing Little Giraffe had fallen into the water. She was curious about her spots.
A lion was approaching the little 1. A swift kick in the snout took care of him. What would the next day bring for the 2 of them.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written children’s book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

This is a sweet story of the love between a mother and child. The pencil illustrations are different and beautiful. The story is enriching. The baby giraffe wants to learn his lessons on everything. One day on the Savannah of Africa a baby was born. Why are we here mama. "We are here to live and learn.". First you must learn to stand. I can't do it mama. Try again. The baby giraffe finally made it up and the mother was proud. Now he tried walking. After awhile he got that lesson too. He tried to drink water and fell in. He wondered why his mama was laughing at him. She told him she was laughing at life. We all fall down and have to get back up again. What do they do now? What is that I see coming at them? I see danger. You might want to read/ listen so you can find out about the danger. I highly recommend this wonderful book.
I was very fortunate to win this book in a giveaway. I say very fortunate because the story and message in this book are wonderful for children. The illustrations are beautiful, too. I am looking forward to sharing this book with my young grandchildren.
