About the author

J. OSWALD SANDERS (1902-1992) was a Christian leader for nearly seventy years and authored more than forty books on the Christian life including The Incomparable Christ, Spiritual Discipleship, Spiritual Leadership, and Spiritual Maturity. He left a promising law practice in his native New Zealand to serve as an instructor and administrator at the Bible College of New Zealand. Dr. Sanders later became general director of the China Inland Mission (now the Overseas Missionary Fellowship), and was instrumental in beginning many new missions projects throughout East Asia.

Took awhile to get through because you want to make sure you process through every concept outlined. I learned a lot about prayer and gained practical disciplines to continue learning. I love the concept that your life is about attending the school of prayer. More of a textbook than a book you want to just pick up and read.

At only 154 pages and 23 usually short chapters, this book covers all aspects of prayer in a very practical style that can be easily read in short sittings. Very helpful.

This little book is scripturally-based and referenced, and though it is small it contains more than appears to have. 3rd time reading it. It seems to me that a few of his interpretations on prayer (albeit very few)I think he covered better in his book on the Holy Spirit (esp re the centrality of sovreignty of God), still I recommend this book.
[For example, regarding praying with a spouse (as per Peter), I am not sure he covered sufficiently. It left a lot of questions for the reader. ] Some things I liked about the book:v**I almost cheered when I read his paragraph referencing too much study about prayer and not enough actual praying.** **He helps the reader with the chronic problem of too little time to pray.** **He covers communion with God as well as other forms of prayer.**

J. Oswald Sanders gives practical how-tos and examples to follow. He covers different aspects of prayer--worship, thanksgiving, confession, intercession & petition. Then he gives us Jesus' example, praying the promises of the Word, praying God's will, praying in the Spirit, praying with persistence, and unanswered prayer. He looks at Paul, authority in prayer, prayer takes time, praying in unity with other believers. He looks at praying for those in authority, for workers, for revival.

Very practical suggestions of how to pray and who to pray like and what to pray for. Easy to read as well.
