I started running recreationally around 5 years ago and a year later I started training for my first Marathon, , now I know that this sudden increase in milege was reckless, and I paid the price when I got shin splints and plantar fasciitis.

I wish I had read this many years ago, because although I though I knew what excercises I should do to prevent injuries and "cure" them (based on internet articles and facebook posts), this book has given me a much wider understanding of the different injuries, how to identify, treat and prevent them.

A splendid collection of tips and techniques to address a comprehensive set of running ailments. Application is clear. It's lacking a 5th star as I'd like the book to include references supporting its assertions; they are present but not in enough density (I'm aware he's spouting his experience from years of practise and that is sufficient for most.) I guess, I'd like to know as much as possible on these injuries...

Wow! The only injury treatment/prevention book a runner needs. Pictures, diagrams, techniques, stretches, explanations. This book has it all!

This is a good reference book when you become injured. It is easy to read and follow the exercises.

A book to keep handy, someplace you don't have to stretch to reach it...

It's a reference book - when injury or pain strikes, it'll reassure and guide on how to diagnose, and what to do and what not to do immediately and later, for a load of common injuries. There are one or two nasty, painful conditions you hope you never need to read about, but if you ever do, you'll be glad you've got some information on it.

It's also a decent workout guide and training plan. There's many pages of exercises for pain-relief, stretching, mobilising and strengthening - all clearly explained and well photographed, giving you confidence you're doing them properly. I appreciated how these are all in one section, but selected and referenced from the pages for each injury. It makes them become familiar more quickly.

Training plans are usually a nice way of filling pages in running books. Here they're refreshing, with some engaging variations, specific warm ups and mid-session drills and things to think about to keep your workouts fresh.

What's best of all for me about this book is how it addresses the three-year-old's question: "Why?!"
Giving each stretch, repetition or rest period a target and purpose really helps the impatient patient understand, follow the advice and resist that urge to hit the streets on an ankle or whatever that's not properly fixed. Along the way the reader picks up some anatomical knowhow and some demystifying, humanizing insights into the physio's point of view.

Cannot speak from a medico but this seems to be a very good and practical book for lower body injuries related to running. It covers diagnosis and treatment. Hope I never have to use it.
