Great Tom: Notes Towards the Definition of T.S. Eliot

Rate this book
The man we meet here and come somewhat to know--a man who, clearly, wished to be unknowable--is a fully believable human being, infinitely suffering, infinitely gentle. And in setting forth the often tragic facts of Eliot's life, Matthews enables us to find in the work far more about the man himself than we otherwise could.

I read this a while back along with a volume of the man's poetry. 20 years ago at least. Date read is a guess.
