Living with pain can provoke frustration, anxiety, depression and sometimes even a reliance on pharmaceutical painkillers. In this important and highly accessible book, registered osteopath and naturopath Leon Chaitow outlines a wide range of tried and tested natural approaches to pain relief, as well as groundbreaking research including the role played by fascia in the experience of pain and a whole host of breakthrough mind-body techniques. The author begins by explaining the nature of pain and why it is that the more you understand about it, the greater an ability you tend to have to overcome it. He then goes on to outline key pain relief approaches including meditation, hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, light and colour therapy, breathing techniques, massage, stretching, hydrotherapy and herbalism. There is also extensive information on the importance of nutrition and supplements. And a special feature is the extensive pain directory that provides treatment advice for the most common problems including headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and backache. Featuring step-by-step self-help exercises and occasional helpful diagrams, this is an essential book for everyone wanting to take control of pain, get their health and vitality back, and enhance their sense of comfort, ease and freedom in everyday life.

I won this book in a recent Goodreads First Reads giveaway.
A useful book with plenty of useful tips etc if you suffer from pain. Some parts I skipped as they were not applicable to the pain suffered within my family.
I always find it interesting when a person who is not dealing with constant pain wants to let others know that there are other treatments out there. Well yes, there is but to be honest if you deal with constant daily pain this book or even medication really does do much help at all. Even doctors are not any help. After multiple surgeries physical therapy and just saying f***k it you have to move and the pain medication does not work only takes maybe an edge off if best. So no! This book was not for me if you are dealing with pain you have my heart with you and some days you just have to suck it up, I know that is not what people want to hear but that is what I found for nothing works, not acupuncture, meditation or some other far out idea, some days it just hurts and others do not know that it is more than ten because my ten is nothing like you have experienced especially when my family says they can see it on my face and everyone stays away from me, so no this book was not helpful. I received this book from Netgalley.com
This book wasn't at all what I expected. Although I have been looking for and devouring any material I can on natural pain management, this book seemed to be about how to live an entire lifestyle homeopathically. I don't take issue with those who choose to live a lifestyle of such practices, but I do tend to shy away from those who act pushy about it.
I still found much of the content informative and I added a whole section to my Fibromyalgia diary based on the different subjects covered here. Chaitow is well researched and clearly believes and practices the lifestyle he is sharing in his book.

A number of methods for managing physical pain are described in this book.
I found odd bits and pieces of this book useful (such as some of the dietary advice / positive attitude sections) but overall it was a bit long winded / lacking in detail (in my opinion).
