Abigail

I was in big trouble. The biggest. Running out of time, I turned to him. Jacob Winters promised he’d solve all my problems. All I had to do was become his pet. With some men, that kind of deal might have been a nightmare. Not with Jacob.

I was raised to be a lady, not a man’s plaything. But with Jacob, I almost had it all; pleasure like I’d never known, protection from the danger stalking me. Was it greedy to want more? I had his body, but I wanted his heart.

I told myself it was just sex. We were providing each other a mutual service, nothing more. Right? I couldn’t possibly be foolish enough to fall in love with him. Except, I was afraid that is exactly what I’d become. A fool, desperately in love with the wrong man.

Jacob

I must have been crazy. I’d wanted Abigail for years, I won’t deny it. But I don’t pursue married women, and her husband was a disaster waiting to happen. Everything about Abigail warned me to steer clear, including the lady herself. Some women might cheat, but not her. Abigail was too noble for her own good. Beautiful and untouchable. Then her husband was murdered and every dark shadow he’d held back came after Abigail at once.

She was on the run, and I was the only man who could save her. The best things come to men who wait, and God knows, I’d been waiting. Abigail was mine. I didn’t want a girlfriend. I definitely didn’t need a wife. I just wanted her. In my home. In my bed. I was going to own every inch of her elegantly curved body. I’d keep her for as long as I wanted her, and then we’d both walk away. What could possibly go wrong?

Ivy Layne has had her nose stuck in a book since she first learned to decipher the English language. Sometime in her early teens, she stumbled across her first Romance, and the die was cast. Though she pretended to pay attention to her creative writing professors, she dreamed of writing steamy romance instead of literary fiction. These days, she’s neck deep in alpha heroes and the smart, sexy women who love them.

Married to her very own alpha hero (who rubs her back after a long day of typing, but also leaves his socks on the floor). Ivy lives in the mountains of North Carolina where she and her other half are having a blast raising two energetic little boys. Aside from her family, Ivy’s greatest loves are coffee and chocolate, preferably together.

This is my first read by miss Layne. And i have to say i was expecting some erotic/bdsm that kind of stuff and i was wrong. It has some minor element of kinky sex, not bdsm, at the beginning of the book to enthice me. Then it drops.

Instead the story more focusing on Jcpb falling in love with Abigail. Jacob grows on me. He really is. Under that brooding man, he is such a sweetheart. Have a big heart and sensitive man. While Abigail annoys the hell out of me with her dramatic character. She is really a damsel in distress. A very annoying damsel in distress.

The character chemistry is suffice enough to bring the steam out from Jacob and Abigail. This is suspense romance story.

Overall i do enjoy this book very much. A good dostraction to my anxy weekend.

I usually love me some Ivy Layne/ Alexa Wilder but this one didn't work for me.
Why?
I couldn't stand the characters, her more than him, true, but he was still an ass.
There were so many things I couldn't stomach...

Abigail, our heroine, is in desperate need of help. With her husband being dead, her mum dying, and her father-in-law threatening to sell her to a motorcycle club, she decides her only option is to turn to Jacob. He agrees but in exchange she has to be his whore for the time of his protection. And what does she do? She agrees without even batting an eyelash and then drops to her knees and gives him a blowjob to prove what a good hoe she can be.
I could understand her actions if she had at least some hesitations, if she tried to fight him, anything. Nope. She did no such thing. And what's best, she liked it so much, she couldn't wait for him to finally fuck her. There was nothing about self-respect, nothing about regrets, nothing about how wrong it all was, she was just happy he gave her a credit card, she lived in his fancy place and could relax, cook and exercise. Oh, and she could fuck him all she wanted. You know, despite the fact he called her stupid and generally treated her like absolute trash. But he was hot, so she was okay with that and kept rambling about how good he was in bed and how excited she was about this whole situation.

Call me old-fashioned, I don't care, but I'm not buying this whole I-can-whore-myself-because-Im-a-feminist-so-bugger-off bullshit. Do what you want, doesn't mean I have to nod with understanding. Nope, I was brought up differently.

I think it was around chapter 7 or so when she stated that she saw absolutely nothing wrong with what she was doing. I could partly agree if she was referring to her choice of actions regarding her mum's situation. Don't get me wrong, I would do anything for my mum but I'm too smart to whore myself for money. It bugs me that women are portrayed in romance books as incapable of doing nothing else but spreading their legs and giving good heads. Usually in exchange for something because, you know, they are too dumb to do this thing themselves.

Again, there is nothing wrong with being someone's sex toy as long as it is consentual and there's no power imbalance. Because that shit is not romantic.

Enter Jacob.
The already mentioned elephant in the room aka the power imbalance. Yeah, that was my biggest problem with him. Also, he was an ass. I don't usually mind that as long as the reason for the hero being so is somewhat justifiable. Here we have none. He's just not likeable. At least in the first half of the book. He does change, true, but my biggest problem with that is the reason for his change.
He starts treating her better because he realises he has feelings for her and NOT BECAUSE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF HER VULNERABILITY WAS WRONG(!). Do you understand my problem with this story now?

I could continue my rant but I need to get ready for work.
All in all, the writing was good, like always, the story line was quite interesting, the characters were dreadful, the first part of the book was horrible but the rest went better.
My rating: 2 - 2.5 stars.
I will continue with the series, love Ivy's writing too much to let one book stop me from that lol.

Why do people love male heroes with control fetishes and a love of voyeurism?

I admit I didn't expect anything stellar upon seeing the title or the 99 cent price tag on the Kindle store. But it had a lot of high reviews so at the most, I expected it to be something that belonged in the Harlequin Romance Section. Cheesy, breezy, sexy and done. I could live with that. Sometimes an easy, cliche read is relaxing and fun. But this? This is none of those things.

I only made it through the first two or three chapters (don't remember and don't care) but they were enough to fill me with disgust and anger. In those chapters, the male hero watches the female character (without her knowledge!) on camera while she pleasures herself and talks about how she was going to be "punished" for that. How in the hell is that "sexy"? If this guy wasn't rich, this wouldn't be a romance, it would be a suspense story about a creepy pervert who likes to watch women do private things through a camera.

I'm sure the author gave him a tragic backstory to excuse this behavior, but I don't care-I stopped reading the moment the voyeurism, control freak nature and other factors came into play. I do not and will not condone supporting a story that tries to spin those things as sexy and romantic.

I am honestly shocked by the good reviews on here-this is so not okay and is not a thing that should be treated as desirable.

Just finished The Billionaire's Pet by Ivy Layne. I loved it. It hooked you right from the beginning and kept me on the edge of my seat to find out how it was going to end. Of course it stars a hot alpha billionaire but the female character is strong minded but in trouble. She uses her body to help her mother and somewhere along the way she falls in love. The problem is how to not let it show or to find out if Jacob feels the same way as Abigail. In between there is an attempted murder, kidnapping, car bombings, and a fire. All of this in one book. Great read....loved it.

**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**

I didn't really care for Jacob. In the beginning, when he wasn't being cold, he was yelling at Abigail. I'm assuming he was supposed to be some big shot, but he didn't seem like he could take care of or protect Abigail besides throwing money at the whole situation.

I thought Abigail was amazing. I mean, besides the fact that she was selling her body, she was brave, but innocent. Scared, but determined. Jacob didn't deserve her and she took too much of his crap. At one point he calls her stupid and yet knowing he should apologize, he never does.

Despite all of that, I really liked the story. It was a bit slow, but since Abigail was pretty much on lockdown, I guess that's to be expected. The last 20% was the most action packed and I felt like it had a good ending. It left a few things open ended which kind of sets you up for the next books.

Abigail Jordan thought things would get better when her abusive husband died. She was wrong. To prevent her mobster father-in-law from pimping her out as part of a business deal, she goes to old family friend Jacob Winters for help. What she doesn't know is that Jacob has had a thing for her for a long time and will do anything to get her into his bed, even make it a condition of her (and her nursing home resident mother's) safety.

Okay, Jacob is a jerk in the start of this. Offering to make her his 'pet' in exchange for keeping her safe and covering her mother's nursing home bills is a really crappy thing to do. However, given Abigail's reaction, she might have suspected something like this would be the outcome. I think that she had a thing for him over the years, too. Thankfully, it's a romance novel, not real life, so they end up happy and in love, from their dicey beginnings.

This is another good book by an author I have come to love as well as all her "Bad Boys". In this book you find Abigail who finds herself fleeing from her Father-In-Law who has shared some of the terrible things he has in store for her. The man she seeks to help her with this predicament is Jacob whom Abigail has had a crush on for years. The "arrangement" Jacob offers is something that Abigail has secretly wanted all those years. I love the way the characters evolved throughout their time together and don't worry, there is an HEA at the end but it offers a bit of a surprise.

this is the 3rd book in the series, I expected better. It started off what I needed as the title states (Billionaire's Pet) I loved Abigail and the love she has for her mom. Jacob was the reason why I have this book a rating of 3 stars. At first he was very dominant and given an ultimatum, but throughout the storyline he flipped a switch which even confused Abigail (fmc) and I was like WTHECK? Abigail had to stay strong for the both of them and kept up the ultimatum. The spicy scenes were slight above average but loved it more for Abigail lol. It introduced too many characters in this book for me to even keep up. I will keep reading to read Vance/Magnolia story bc Magnolia seems like my type of gal. I thankfully read this on Kindle Unlimited lol

I enjoyed this book. I loved Abigail she is such a strong person willing to do whatever is necessary to keep her mother safe. She was raised to be a lady and she maintains her dignity even when Jacob makes her his pet. The Winter family has mysteries that are yet to be disclosed. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Was looking for something light, fluffy, goofy -- cotton candy.

This wasn't it.

The male protagonist is a butt. The woman similarly has 0 redeeming qualities. Other aspects are problematic. I skimmed until 60-70% and DNFed.

This book reads like it’s written from a completely different author from the previous novellas in this series. It starts out strong, 5 star strong, then the middle section becomes tedious, ended at a solid 4 stars.

I really again didn't enjoy how degrading the author is towards women...I did give it a 3 star as it changed soon into the book. But again it's the same old damsel in distress

Typical blackmail story, only without the blackmail. Abigail is in trouble, and needs Jacob's help. She knows that he wants her, and she has been having fantasies about him for a long time, so she goes with him thinking she knows what she is getting into, only he asks for a pet, a woman that will indulge in all his fantasies. They both think they are getting what they want, but their uncomplicated relationship/business deal got complicated, as was expected.

I liked that she went into the deal with her eyes open, and in a way she got what she wanted. She was so strong and dignified that it didn't feel like she was sacrificing herself. But then Jacob changes the rules, not really knowing what he wants, and as things get complicated, she has to decide if she can keep going. The main difference is that both of them wanted each other, the problem was the way they got together, Abigail out of desperation, Jacob out of greed. It takes them a while, but eventually they realize that it wasn't just lust what got them together.

The Billionaire's Pet has great chemistry with two really likable leads. Jacob is the sexy billionaire whom Abigail goes to for help after her father in law informs her of his plan to make her pay for her debt, a debt she had owed to her now dead husband for paying for her mother's medical care. Abigail had known Jacob for years, and had always been attracted to him, but of course, had never acted on her attraction while she had been married. But now, with her mother's medical care solely resting on her shoulders, she does what she has to, otherwise she has to go crawling back to her disgusting criminal father in law.

Jacob gives Abigail the help she asks for, with the condition that she become his pet. She agrees, thinking she'll be able to keep her heart out of the deal. Of course, as things tend to do, she isn't able to keep her heart from falling, no matter how hard she tries to keep it protected. She doesn't realize that Jacob too, is fighting to keep his heart protected. He's always had feelings for Abigail, unbeknownst to her, and this deal is just his way of getting her in his life and in his bed.

I loved that Jacob is fully alpha, but not a first class a%# the way alphas sometimes are portrayed currently in romances. He's actually kind, and really protective of Abigail. He not only offers Abigail money to pay for her mother's health care, he offers her physical protection from her father in law and his criminal associates. And along the way, while she's ensconced in his protected penthouse, he and Abigail fall hard for each other, but of course, neither admits it to the other.

I also love that Abigail is a really classy, kind, intelligent woman who loves her mother so much she is willing to do whatever she had to to take care of her. She's the perfect heroine, not a doormat, but not cold or b----y either.

The Billionaire's Pet is sexy, suspenseful and sweet and I can't wait to read more about the men and women in this series.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Abigail has had an interesting life. She grew up privileged, raised to be the perfect “lady.” Then her fathered dies, and she discovers they are actually penniless. Her mother is suffering from Alzheimer’s, in a care facility she can’t afford. Then, a supposed knight in shining armor shows up. John Jordan offers to take care of her mother and her in exchange for marrying him, giving him some legitimacy in her circles. When John is killed, her father in law steps in, taking over, using her as a bargaining chip in his illegal activities. In the predawn hours one morning, she escapes and runs to Jacob for help.

Jacob Winters is powerful in his own right, able to stand up to Big John Jordan, and protect Abigail. He’s had a thing for Abigail from the moment he met her. He’s an alpha male who likes to always be in control. When the opportunity presents itself for him to finally have her, under his terms, he agrees.

Big John doesn’t give up easily. He immediately begins searching for her. Jacob has her holed up in his Penthouse apartment, believing her safe there. Jacob doesn’t want a relationship, a girlfriend or marriage, just convenience. While “playing house,” they discover they actually like each other. Abigail gets to see the softer side of Jacob and his love for his family. Jacob gets to know the real Abigail, sees how tough she is, and respects her for her devotion to her mother.

I love that this series is filled with curvy girls. There is definite heat between these two, some angst, some suspense, and I loved the twist at the end. At times I wanted to smack them both upside the head. Abigail for not seeing what was right in front of her, and Jacob for not just admitting out loud how he really felt. I can’t wait for Vance and Magnolia’s book!

I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.

Abigail's life hasn't turned out like she planned. She married a man she didn't even know well, and didn't love, in order to make sure her sick mother can stay at the nice medical facility that Abigail's father put her in, before he died. Now she's on the run after her husband is murdered, and she's in trouble. She ends up turning to the one person she believes could help her, Jacob Winters. He agrees to help her, but for a price, that she become his personal pet. Abigail has no choice but to agree, to make sure she and her mother stay safe. Jacob has wanted Abigail since he first saw her, but he wouldn't make a move on a married woman. He doesn't want a girlfriend, or wife, so this arrangement is perfect to his thinking. As they navigate through the agreement, feelings are developing, but neither is willing to act upon them. Will Jacob be able to get Abigail to stay after she's safe enough to leave?

HOT HOT HOT! That was my first thought! Then I got mad again at Jacob, because I have issues with controlling men, but I did get over myself half way through to fall in love with him. The character development is great, with a colorful cast of secondaries. Their flammable chemistry threw sparks out of my kindle, and then threatened to blow it up with the exploding fiery flames of sexy scene goodness which leave panties as pile of ashes. Ivy Layne's easy writing style had me reeled in from the get go, and held my attention hostage until I finished the story. Her twists made for OMG moments of suspense that had me yelling out loud. By the end of the book, I felt like I needed more asap, as I really did fall for Abigail and Jacob. And this awesome story convinced me that I HAVE to read more of this author's work ASAP, so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I received an advanced copy in return for an honest review. I will try not to spoil anything!

This is Jacob and Abigail's story. This book hooks you pretty early. I started reading it and then literally had to force myself to put it down. I love both of these characters. Written so well, you quickly feel like you know them, but have no idea how it will play out. There are some really steamy scenes between the two that may lead you to need a cold shower to cool off! The chemistry is off the chart. This book not only has the romance and steam, there is a great underlying suspense story as well. There are several nail biting moments in here as well. Really a great story. I can't wait to catch glimpses of them and their future in future books in this series. This is a must read, just make sure when you start that you have time to finish! You won't want to put it down!! Love, romance, hiding from the mob....great combo!

Jacob & Abigail. The author has a note at the end of her book excerpt about how the book is standalone (which it is) but after reading it you'll want to read the other books in the series. Let's just go with she didn't lie. Not only am I planning on reading this whole series but also the Sinclair spinoff series. My WTR list just got longer.

She comes from a well known family in Atlanta. Her dad got their family into some financial issues. Her mother had Alzheimer and was in a memory care facility (not a cheap one). After her dad's death and needing to pay for her mom's care she marries into the Jordan family (a wealthy family). She's the perfect "lady that lunches" and her husband John was moving about society and needed that kind of lady on his arm. He agrees to pay for her mother's care. Then he dies.

John's dad takes over the mother's care but he complains about it being super expensive. He tries to get her to sleep with his associates but she declines. So he decides he is to going make her part of a deal he was working. He's a criminal and had been working some sort of deal with the Raptors, a MC gang pretty well known as scary dudes. Not loving that offer, she runs away.

She goes to Jacob Winters (she had met him at some charity events and they had some chemistry but she was married and not going there) for help in her situation. He has been hot for her for a couple of years and has been wanting to get her into his bed. So he offers her protection from Big John (he had her part of a deal and she ran away; deal may fall through) and pays for her mom's care but in exchange she is to become his "pet". Homie doesn't have time for relationships (too complicated) and while he has no issue getting dates (and sleeping with them) they become clingy. He wants Abigail to move into his place and be available for him to bang whenever he wants. She's to be submissive in the bedroom and do as he asks. She's been hot for him too and has no other options so she accepts.

He takes her to his penthouse condo (upstairs from his office) He gives her a laptop and credit card (so she can buy things she needs within reason). Their sex is HOT HOT HOT but also kind of cold. There aren't any feelings other than lust. Yeah they both want each other but he's able to just shut it off and go about his day. She's not allowed to leave his condo (to keep her safe from Big John) and gets bored. While married, she learned to cook. She has access to a grocery delivery service and she gets stuff. She's a pretty darn good cook (we aren't talking Shake N' Bake which is one of my fortes). She makes fancy stuff or stuff that takes hours to prep (i.e. the chicken pot pie with the homemade pie crust). So her role is cook and sex slave with him.

She gets sick with the flu and he takes care of her. Afterwards, he starts changing and she's uncomfortable with it. He moves her into his room, starts kissing her on the mouth, and overall treating her like a girlfriend. She doesn't want to get emotionally invested in him (but she is) so she tries to remind herself of her role. There is an awkward dinner with his family. While she was cooking an impromptu dinner, they all overheard Jacob, his older brother Aiden (man if you thought Jacob was the alpha you should meet Aiden; BTW - I can't wait for his story), and a very close family friend (FF) arguing about Jacob's living situation with Abigail. FF tells him that she's damaged goods and leading to gossip about him and therefore the family. Jacob shuts down the argument (actually Tate did when he informed them that they could hear everything they were saying about Abigail).

Afterwards, Jacob and Abigail end up getting into a fight because she wanted him to tell her why the change (has their deal changed) and he doesn't want to put a label on their relationship. He leaves to go to his office (same building/high rise). A car bomb goes off in front of their building, causing a fire but not a ton of structural damage. In the melee, Big John is able to get past the security team in the building (he mainly shoots and kills them all) and breaks down the door to the condo. Abigail was running towards Jacob's office to get in the safe room he has in his condo but Big John grabs her by the hair and is dragging her out the door.

Some guy (with sexy green eyes) shows up. Big John is distracted and Abigail is able to run into the safe room where he can't get her. Jacob shows up to Big John confronting the newcomer Lucas (head of the Raptors MC) who was party to the deal with Big John that included Abigail. Well, it seems that Big John had killed the previous head of the Raptors which allowed Lucas to take over the MC. He failed to realize that the guy was Lucas' brother which didn't make Lucas happy. He was going along with Abigail as part of the deal to get her away/safe from Big John (she was nice to him when he was at their home for some dinner/meeting and treated him like a normal person and not a criminal). Lucas ends up shooting and killing Big John and then leaves. Jacob and Abigail reunite and declare their love for each other (while there is no mention of marriage it was eluded to earlier in the book when Jacob says Abigail should have the Jordan last name). Sigh.......

Very enjoyable story that didn't go slow but also didn't skip through stuff. I hate when books have the build up to an ending and it just falls flat like the author wanted to hurry and finish the book. Not the case here. Great character development including the side characters. It makes me want to read the other books because I'm invested in the side characters. Also helps that the sex is hot hot hot.

Hooked immediately! This book has it all: a verbal contract to become a man's pet, steam, mystery. I am loving the Winter's family! Jacob and Abigail are perfectly happy to enter into to this arrangement, be his pet in exchange for safety and her mothers healthcare, at first. Then pesky love gets in the way. Safe, HEA.

Scandals of the Bad Boy Billionaires Series
by Ivy Layne

The Billionaire’s Secret Heart
The Billionaire’s Secret Love
The Billionaire’s Pet
The Billionaire’s Promise
The Rebel Billionaire
The Billionaire’s Secret Kiss
The Billionaire’s Angel
Engaging the Billionaire
Compromising the Billionaire
The Counterfeit Billionaire

Again as par for the course for me, I didn’t read these in order I started with The Billionaire’s Promise which is the only one of these novels that I have in paperback. Let’s get you reading these in the right order, shall we?

The Billionaire’s Secret Heart is the first in the series and introduces you to the Winter’s family, with a tragic background full of scandal. Holden Winters is one of the younger set of siblings and cousins. The Winters family starts with two brothers who have their own family homes within steps away from each other on the Winter’s estate in Georgia. One couple dies when the children are young in a “murder-suicide” but the case isn’t truly closed. The children blend together under their remaining family when a “murder-suicide” happens to the remaining parents in the exact same manner as the previous crime. Coming from money doesn’t stop you from the pain of loss and that is something the whole family has in common. Holden Winters is a successful businessman and night club owner with his cousin Tate when he meets Josephine and falls her. A little problem with blocked communication almost keeps them apart. When Winter’s men find their one they fall and fall hard.

The Billionaire’s Secret Love picks up in the final parts of the first novel when Tate Winters meets Joesphine’s roommate and friend Emily. Emily doesn’t date she is happy just to get through the day without a panic attack. Why in the world would she want to date a man who lives in the limelight whether he wants to or not. Tate won’t let her hide, she’s brilliant and he not only wants to date her but he wants her skills as a game developer for his and Holden’s Gaming company. A mishap with the Winters that owns the building they live and work in has a bit of a problem with the press causing Emily to put a freeze on their relationship.

The Billionaire’s Pet Jacob Winters is too busy to date what with owning the building that he and two of his family members live in and houses their Gaming company. He is also a land developer in high demand. Little does he expect the woman he has lusted after from afar to come in widowed and asking for his help. Abigail is desperate she is newly widowed and her mother is in an expensive nursing home due to her dementia. Her father-in-law just so happens to run drugs and guns for very bad people and he wants her to pay her upkeep on her back. She goes to the one man she can think of that will help her pay for her mother’s care and keep her safe. She in her wildest dreams never thought that he would promise to help her if she became his. The hardest parts are when Jacob changes the rules because he wants more from the relationship but he hasn’t communicated that change to Abigail.

The Billionaire’s Promise *like I said this is the book that I have in paperback. Vance Winters is the playboy of the group, an artist and angel investor known for his excessive drinking and partying. He hires Magnolia to be his assistant on her coffee-making skills alone. The Billionaire's Pe, by Ivy Layne is a 342-page contemporary romance novel and is the third book out of a 10-part series (other reviews can be found below). And since this is a 10-part series, you can expect reviews by this author pretty back to back for the next few weeks as I go through the books. It is written from a first-person POV, two-sided, though it was very imbalanced. It is a thirty chapter book and only a third of the book was in the hero's POV.

Ivy Layne is an author who generally writes dirty, dirty sex scenes. So if you're someone who is looking for some dirty read (which there is nothing wrong with that) this is the book for you. I will warn you ahead of time if you are reading this series, this book in particular had A LOT of sex...almost too much for my liking.

Spoilers Ahead ***
Abigail has made so many poor choices in her life, but to be fair to her some of the choices were purely driven by circumstance and despair. It isn't her fault that her father squandered their wealth. It isn't her fault that her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at such a young age. So she did what any good daughter would do, marry for money to take care of her mother after her father passed. Her mistake was blindly getting involved with a family who was in organized crime. After her husband passed, her father-in-law decided to swoop in and use her as a bargaining chip (yes, sell her body) to a motorcycle gang. What does she do? She turns to a man who has always been attracted to her, Jacob Winters.

Jacob had a thing for Abigail since he saw her for the first time in an art gallery four years ago and the need to possess her had not faded. Yeah, he was being a bastard by proposing this to her, but the rules in his mind were clear, no emotions. He'd take care of her, he'd make sure her mother's bills were paid and she was looked after, more importantly he'd keep Abigail safe from her father-in-law who was on a rampage looking for her. The catch? She had to be his "pet".

Overall, the characters were likeable, but the story is completely not relatable, this would not likely happen in real life, so if you're one who likes to read things closer to life, this is not the book for you.

Generally, here are my thoughts:
1. I struggled with this book a little, not because I don't enjoy this author, but I can see why others would have issues with this book. Afterall, Abigail starts off as a "pet", basically, she's whoring herself for an end. And hey, I don't have a problem with that, being a prostitute is the oldest profession and I don't see anything wrong with it, but I can see quite a few people not enjoying that. And Jacob is a complicated character and can come off as a total dick
2. I wish the POV's were more balanced
3. All books I've read by this author were smooth and had great pacing, this book is no different, though there was A LOT of sex
4. I classify this novel as "Second chance" because these two had a thing for each other when Abigail was married, but she didn't stray
5. There was definite growth of caring and emotions, but sometimes, it felt stilted
6. The book does a good job setting up the next book in the series.

In summary, I give this a 3 out of 5.

In my last review I said I was nervous about this book because of the lower reviews. I see what they mean and for the most part I agree. I didn’t like how Abigail was demeaning herself and the way Jacob set up their deal. There’s something uncomfortable about being a man’s play thing that doesn’t sit well with me. The first part of the book I didn’t care for. Abigail was being used as a sex toy and I couldn’t get behind both of them. To me, she was almost too compliant with Jacob and I wanted her to rebel a little more instead of being this demure, polite, society woman. She does some defying here and there but I wish she had more fight in her. I love spicy banter and situations where the heroine puts the hero in his place and in this case she wasn’t sassy enough. On top of this, the book is mainly told from Abigail’s point of view and I feel like we didn’t get much personality from Jacob. We didn’t see him vulnerable, not really. Then, when we were in his head, it didn’t reveal too much about his intentions and reasons, plus there was a lot of vague thoughts. You don’t get too much of an emotional Jacob. I feel this was missing from him and I’ll even say Abigail too. It felt like feelings were just shut off in this book and I wanted more of that. There was such a disconnect between the two of them, even when Jacob realizes he wants more from Abigail. The only indication you get from him is that he becomes more human and tender with Abigail. He gets less commanding and more sweet and thoughtful. When his demeanor changes with Abigail, she gets more closed off and suspicious, plus believes she is undeserving of him. This was another thing that bothered me about her. She didn’t let Jacob’s attitude and actions develop into something more, she kept running away from it, once again pulling into that disconnect and detachment demeanor. I think she was more nervous about taking things to the next level than he was. Jacob was already there, each time peeling another layer off himself but never emotional. The reason I didn’t give this a 3 and opted for a 4, is because even though Abigail bothered me as well as Jacob, with the lack of emotion and the whole pet situation, is because the story flowed well and had a good plot. You find out what Abigail was running from, why she felt her arrangement with Jacob was needed and she got to explore her sexuality even though I didn’t like how it was portrayed. What I also appreciated was how Ivy made Jacob gradually fall in love with Abigail, and not suddenly. She made it believable, that love for both of them is possible even though they got there in an unconventional way. Perhaps the frosting on the cake in this book was how love really did conquer all and both of them managed to get there unscathed even though they were battling their thoughts about each other the whole time. While I didn’t like how Jacob went about this situation, I still enjoyed the book for what it was.

Way Past A Pet

Abigail Jordan, born and bred among the higher levels of society, seeks Jacob Winters' assistance and protection. She is running from her crime boss father-in-law, Big John, who is planning to include her as part of a package deal with a rogue motorcycle gang, shortly after her husband's suspicious death. With her mother housed in a very expensive nursing home, and in the final stages of Alzheimer's disease, Abigail is desperately in need of someone of means and importance. Therefore, she is willing to do anything to keep her mother in care and hide from Big John, even accept Jacob's offer to become his live-in pet. Jacob simply doesn't do relationships.

This is the third story of this series, and the first full length novel. It follows the children of two Winters families, all of whom were orphaned after the separate murders of both sets of their parents. After the first deaths, the children of that family were taken in and raised by their aunt and uncle, until their also untimely deaths, so they are all more like siblings than cousins.

Jacob and Abigail's relationship proceeds despite both their efforts to keep their agreement and emotions intact. The turmoil and rationales for decisions made, as well as the unavoidable sexual responses between the two protagonists, are very well portrayed.

I felt that the manner in which the story was developed did justice to both of these characters' personalities. I also appreciated the manner in which the other family members were brought into the story. It will allow the continuing saga to proceed without interruption and without impacting the continuity of the storyline. Each family member and their significant other can be further developed in their own books, but these early books give you a good perspective on all of them, their similarities and differences. I look forward to reading more of them.

The Billionaire's Pet is the third book ofa seven book series by Ivy Layne (Scandals of the Bad Boy Billionaires Book). If you like the Mafia/Mob, Dom/Sub types of erotic romance you might like this book and/or the series. These type of books usually start off with

A). the main male character (protagonist) being anything buy sleazy, with too much money,
too little morals type of guys.
B). The main female character usually has a financial problem that only the sleazy male character can help her with. And
C). They get cozy, have hot and steamy sex and live HEA (A+B=C).

But this book switches things up a little bit , taking a decidedly different path about a quarter of the way into it, becoming more of a psychological thriller/mystery. I love it when an author does something unexpectedly that I didn't see coming. So, my spidey senses were going off all over the place from that point on. Cudos to Ms. Layne for her deft handling of her characters.

I have read the first two books of the series and now plan to read the last three. You just don't know what's going to happen when you get an author such as Ivy Layne behind the wheel what's going to happen to the rest of the series.
Rating 4.5 stars.

I don't leave synopsis of the books plot as the author's blurb can do that better then I, nor do I post spoilers out of respect for future readers' right to experience fully the surprises that each individual book delivers.

I received an advanced reader copy(ARC) of this book and voluntarily left posted review.

CJ Bloom , Beckett Greylock did a fair job. I had a few moments when I was not sure if male or female was speaking. I felt like the audio could have been tighter. Overall the audio was good but I found reading the book was more pleasant.

Let me start right off with this. There was falling in love at the wrong time. There was heartbreak, confusion, uncertainty. There was an attempt at running. There was intrigue, mystery, action. There was even some passion, romance, lusty inter-play.

Jacob Winters had a desire to possess one Abigail. But she was married. Then she wasn’t. Jacob saw that he could have the one thing he has wanted but could not. Now the tables have turned in his favor. He will be permitted to possess, her. With that possession comes a price.

Abigail found herself without her husband and with the hold he has over her. She then backs into a situation that she was/was not expecting to come about after her husband’s death. No matter the situation she runs. She runs to the one man she believes can help her. With all this going on she still worries about her mother. She loves her mother. The only person in the world she does love without condition, until. . .

I had myself a good read from start to finish. I want more from the Scandals of the Bad Boy Billionaires series. I had some drama, action, suspense, and some curvy girl action. I would love to see more curvy girls taking center stage.

DNF.
The main character comes from a loving mom and dad...mom has dementia and dad puts her in an amazing facility then dies of a heart attack. When he died, she realized that he had sold everything to pay for it and there was nothing left. She went to charities with her kind humble mom but doesn't have any working skills.

She was raised in a bubble and they never told her about the mafia close to her circle so when the mobster asked for her hand in marriage in exchange for paying her mom's medical...she agreed. When she found out, she remained loyal. She and her husband had a mutual respect. Then her husband died and his dad said he was going to marry her and sell her body to the motorcycle club if she wanted to keep her mom taken care of. She snuck out of the house and ran to a billionaire who always had a crush on her but she never acted because of mutual respect for her husband. He agrees to help her if she'll be his sex slave and so hours after being told she'll be her ex-father-in-law's paid prostitute for a motorcycle club...the one man that can save her tells her to get on her knees and she does.

THIS WAS ALL IN CHAPTER 1.

I went to the reviews and read ...then decided no HEA was coming. DNF
