"His schrift is "A". And the name of his power is The Almighty." [Jugram]

BLEACH's Volume 67 is focused on the battle between the greatest out of both sides. On the Soul Reapers' side we have Squad Zero's leader, Ichibei, and on the Quincies' side we got Wandenreich's leader, Yhwach. The battle's visuals looks incredible. They had this nice back and forth fight where it's difficult to choose the winner. Ichibei's powers are very interesting, I really liked his awesome dragon made out of spiritual pressure and his Zanpakuto looking like a brush, but actually being a blade, is fire. Yhwach on the other hand... is Yhwach. He could be an emotionless piece of wood just standing there and I would have had the same feelings seeing him. His powers are cool and you might find his presence intimidating and menacing, but to be honest, I couldn't care less. For me he's more irritating than scary. I understand that the villain always needs to be a couple of steps ahead of the protagonist, but when it comes to Yhwach, things are getting quite ridiculous. It pisses me off how prepared he always is for everything. While Aizen's character was packed with everything and incredibly difficult to defeat, Yhwach is totally overpowered. There is no way to cheer up for the heroes' side because it's obvious that Yhwach will not be defeated anytime soon. I can't even imagine what kind of challenges are waiting for all of my favs to get through so they could be stronger and finally win against the bad guy.

"The Auswählen. It absorbs energy from those quincy judged to be unnecessary and sends it to those who need it. A redistribution of power. Those taken from will perish... while those on the receiving end are revitalized with a greater strength than before. This is but one of His Majesty's powers." [Jugram]

I am not on the Quincy's side, I never had been and I never will be, and I hate them for all the mindless killing they kept on doing all this time, but oh boy, even I felt at least a little bit sorry for them to be so betrayed like that by their leader. Some of them knew what he could do to them (like Robert), so they had some kind of vision of what can happen on the end, but some of them had no idea. You might say that how could they not be prepared for it if all got their powers from Yhwach (what got easily given, could be also easily taken away), especially if you consider the fact that these people didn't trust each other in the slightest (and also didn't trust Yhwach), but I will not be cruel like that to dive into this topic. All I will say is that it was a very low blow that Yhwach delivered to his army. They fought for him with all their might, killed hundreds of Soul Reapers for him and this is how they got rewarded. It looks like the Sternritters were all just a distraction, a way to get all the unnecessary obstacles out of the way so His Majesty would get to where he wanted to be - in this case, in the Royal Palace. All this war, all the killing and pain, blood, sweat and tears of both sides, all of it was just for Yhwach to get to the Spirit King.

"Now that I've been reborn... Do I look extra cool?"
"Yeah. You're cool all right. Cooler than I'll ever be."

Despite the fact that Volume 67 was focused on the Ichibei vs Yhwach battle, it had begun with a fight between Oh-Etsu and Askin. For me it was the highlight of this volume (it might be surprising considering the fact that Ichigo and the gang did arrive at the Royal Palace). It was both concerning and cool how these guys behaved. There weren't any limits that Oh-Etsu couldn't cross to defeat his opponent. He was ready to harm himself if it meant that he could win. And Askin? His words strike me in a a way that I started to think of him as my favorite quincy. For a guy who can never die and acts quite cocky, he seems to be awfully insecure. I don't think he likes his powers. He understands them, knows how they work, but doesn't like them. Tries to say to himself that it's all right, that he's strong and that his powers are his good points, but it doesn't seem to work for him. I understand it in a very deep level, because I'm an insecure person myself. Besides, I really liked Oh-Etsu's and Askin's interactions. They looked like they admired one another for their strength and sturdiness (and their craziness, in a way) and it made me sad that only one could end up as a winner in their fight.

"Squad Zero has fallen. And you shall be the next to fall... Spirit King." [Yhwach]

Ichigo and the rest of the gang arrived at the Royal Palace, but the battle was already over. Yhwach was nowhere to be found while all the Squad zero members had been laying down, defeated. It looks like Ichigo and the gang are the last line of defence that the Soul Society has. Will they able to defeat Yhwach and save the Spirit King and the whole of Soul Society (and, let's be honest, the world, too)? Ichigo had been through a training that made him stronger, but is he strong enough to stand against Yhwach? What about Ishida, will they be able to fight against each other?

WITH THIS VOLUME ENDED TYBW COUR 2, AND SINCE I HAVEN'T WATCHED COUR 3, I'M NOW DIVING INTO UNKNOWN LANDS. I heard some things here and there, of course, but these are just little pieces that I cannot connect into one picture yet AND I'M TERRIFIED. Please, pray for me!

Some things I need to talk about: (as always, be aware of the spoilers)

~ I cringed when Askin licked then drank Oh-Etsu's blood. Yuck.
~ Giselle is one of the most disgusting and insane characters I have ever seen. Not only she had been the sole reason why Bambietta is now dead and became a zombie, she beat her up when Bambi tried to defend herself from her blood thirst, and when Bambi couldn't get up anymore, Giselle hugged her crying in joy with "How cute you are when you're dead! So cute! I love you!". Girl, shut up please and get out of my sight, you disgusting pig! 🤢 It pains me deeply that even after her death, Bambi cannot be at peace 😥
~ I'm also feeling a deep sorrow for the character of Robert. The guy had been around for a while lately, but was never named. He was introduced with his name and got killed just in one chapter. How merciless 😢
~ What the hell is Ukitake up to?? Should I be scared?? 😨
~ It was so nice to see the Vizards (Hiyori, Lisa, Hachi and Love) again! 🙌
~ "The plan was for us to join up with them and all go up at once, wasn't it?"
"The situation changed."
"So what? Sendin' them up alone like that, what're you gonna do if they die? You... You sent Ichigo and Yoruichi up there not carin' if they die as long as they slow the bad guys down, didn't you?"
- the fact that Urahara didn't answer, didn't sit right with me and I felt chills fly through my spine 😥
~ I really like Hachi's little umbrella! It was so cute ☺️
~ We got to meet Yoruichi's little sister! They look so alike! ☺️
~ Ichibe's Bankai (the shrine) looks sick! 🔥 I saw this image plenty of times already (mostly when people compared it to Sukuna's shrine in JJK trying to make a point that it Bleach copied JJK which is absolutely ridiculous) and it never fails to amaze me!
~ I can't believe how quickly Ichibe died and got revived and how quickly I turned from crying to laughing. A crazy experience!
~ What did Yhwach meant when he named the Spirit King as his father?? I'm so confused?? 😵

Its an alright volume and basically contains Yhwach's invasion of the spirit kings palace and just shows how brutal he is. He fights Squad zero's captain and it looks like they have won but he shows the difference in their power as they fall one by one and the main battle is him vs Hyousube Ichibei and its cool and we learn about the latter's power aka the BLACK and he can wipe out names and so some weird stuff and there are moments where it looks like he will win, but Yhwach gets back all his powers and just shows him the difference in their power. Its upto Ichigo and co to save the spirit king and stop Yhwach, the epic battle is beginning soon!

As much as hes a bit of a horrible person I can't help but love Ichibes ability. Kubo draws it so bloody well and its concept is just so cool to me in multiple ways. Like I say, the art here was truly beautiful to me. Gets a 3 because Ywach and his power is a bit silly and the fight with him and Ichibe is incredibly unsatisfying. Shame because as I say it's a great fight before the finale.

I really don't like OP main bosses, but is there really any choice anymore? With all the escalation, you have to have a boss like this now. The monk was very cool - and the ending is the WORST CLIFFHANGER.

Reviewed on Lili Lost in a Book

We start off this volume with the Quincy Askin Nakk Le Vaar, and I could tell right away that this guy was gonna be trouble. I mean he has some really cool abilities, but they’re not cool when he’s fighting for the other side 😩

We also got some new revelations regarding Shunsui, and I’m a little confused about his strategy in all this. They better have a good plan because so far it looks like they’re screwed 😬

But this volume is mostly centered around Yhwach and Ichibe Hyosube, who is the leader of Squad Zero. It was a good fight and we got to see some interesting powers being used. There was lots of struggle back and forth, and it looked like the good guys had a good chance at winning... but then... Look, I just don’t know how they’re supposed to beat Yhwach—He’s so freaking overpowered!

We are left with an interesting cliffhanger in this volume, and I am very curious to see where this all goes. Things are bleak, friends. Here’s to hoping things turn around for the Reapers soon.

This volume transitions the story of this arc into the final climax. It was interesting seeing Yhwach enter the Spirit Palace and fight through Squad Zero. This volume did a good job at showing how powerful Squad Zero was while still having them be defeated in order to advance the story without making them seem weak. It was interesting seeing how Yhwach used his powers to take the leftover abilities and lives of his comrades and followers on the ground. Since his introduction, Yhwach has sacrificed and killed his own followers left and right, and they still worshipped him. I didn’t understand it until this volume, but it’s because his power trumps all of theirs, and he can take away their lives and power at any second in order to make himself stronger. I’m curious to see how the characters will defeat a character like this since he’s the strongest being ever introduced, enough to threaten the life of the Soul King, a character that was established as this world’s God. This plot twist at the end of this story just greatly adds to my curiosity of how they’ll wrap this storyline up. Where could we possibly go from here, and how will it all end?

Could Squad Zero feel any more generic and unpolished than this? They're just a joke at this point. And of course, the Quincy King makes everything seem futile with the amount of plot armour on him.

It's such a shame to watch this franchise rot away because of this final story arc. It's lifeless and has everything it needs to be unmemorable.

I think my rating might even be generous. This is just getting awful and so boring. the only reason I'm even bothering is after sticking with something for almost 70 issues and you know it's ending you want to see it through. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste the few minutes it took me to get through this. There wasn't even any real plot development unless you count the awful thing the head of the Quincies did to his own people.

And seriously after that, if any of the Quincies are still following him they are either idiots or zealots. This was literally one long fit between the dude on the cover (whose name I forgot because this was so dull) and the head of the Quincies (I've yet to remember his name because he's so singularly uninteresting that I've been labeling him 70s porn star for his looks). It's your typical Kubo fight. Everyone telling everyone their secret moves as they do them and draining any tension out of the scene.

Here's the problem. The head of the Quincies is so powerful now that his omnipotent and that is SO boring. Kubo's left himself nowhere to take the story. There should be no way the Quincies lose because he somehow defeated this super powerful reaper who then tells Ichigo and his friends it's all down to them to stop the Quincies.

Um so the best of the best, the ones training Ichigo to be stronger loses but someone with less power and less training is going to win? As much as I want to see Ichigo again, this storyline is just inane. I'm pretty sure this series is going to go out in a fizzle with much regret on the part of the fans.

Rounding up from a 1.5 because for the most part, it's just Yhwach vs Ichibe, and that would be more impactful if Squad Zero didn't seem so incredibly underdeveloped? Like for the most part, I don't care about them. It was fine when Ichigo, Rukia, Renji, and Byakuya (although, he was mostly healing) were there and training for the next wave of the Quincy invasion, but that was really because a lot of that time was spent with Oh-Etsu, and he was the only member who was bother to be fleshed out. I don't care about Ichibe, and I found myself skimming even though this fight is supposed to be a big deal.

On a slightly unrelated note, I need for some to sit me down and explain what exactly Reio is very slowly. Using small words. Because I am confused as hell.

Ugh, this volume also solidifies my hatred for Giselle Gewelle. The whole scene with her and Bambi is disgusting and just... Look, I have a pretty strong stomach, but there was just something so insanely fucked up about that whole part. (I am not looking forward to seeing that animated.)

Given that Manga, and especially Shonen is split up into bigger arcs as composed to volumes I will be analyzing and reviewing this by Arc. I also reread this manga over the span of 2 months, some days reading as much as 100 chapters a day. It would be quite tedious for me to review each 7-8 chapter volume. So this will be copy and pasted throughout all of the 74 manga volumes. That being said, if you're looking at this without having viewed the series...spoiler warning. I don't recap anything, but I also mention things that happen. If you want me to answer the question "Should I pick this up?" Yes. Even if you stop at the end of the Soul Society Arc. It's worth it.

Karakura Town Arc - Chapters 1-56 - Rating: 7/10
(The official page lumps this in with the Soul Society Arc however I feel as if they are two very separate arcs with two very separate themes)
- A fun introduction.
-An interesting premise on the idea of ghosts and demons (Hollows)
-Does a good job of introducing the characters and I especially enjoyed the love for characters like Chad, Orihime and Uryu as these characters would later lose more and more spotlight as the series went on.
-It is a bit of a monster of the week. When it works, like with Chad's introduction story. It works. But Characters like Don Kanonji felt superficial and very gimmicky. Which, fair. I didn't enjoy them as much.

Soul Society Arc - Chapters 57-182 - Rating: 10/10
-The height of Bleach
-Establishes an afterlife seemingly perfectly. Later on revealed to be full of plot holes and never fleshed out but hey! That's not an issue in THIS arc. The fights are top tier, the themes of Ichigo owing a life debt to Rukia and his passion and determination to rise above literally God's army is inspiring and to this day is why I love Ichigo so much. He doesn't have some grandiose plan. He doesn't have a major goal to accomplish. He is a protector by heart, losing his mother has made him sour to failing to protect those he cares about and he'll do anything in his power never to feel that helpless again. Very powerful stuff.
-The twist near the end of this arc is revolutionary and would make waves for the next 200 chapters onward. A perfect ending and set up for the forthcoming arc.
-The only issues I have for this arc would be Ichigo's lightning speed progression. The guy goes from being able to barely defeat a third seat to besting multiple captains in roughly 100 or less chapters. I get that that is the point and him defeating captains was more of a struck of luck, but progression and pacing wise it feels very unearned and a factor of "for the plot he needed to be this strong" It only seems as fast as it is because Ichigo's progression slows drastically down for the rest of the story moving foreword so it's only now that I make that criticism.
-Also, and this will be an issue in most Shonen. There are 13 Captains with 13 Vice Captains and seats that branch all the way to 10 I believe? Regardless, there's a fudge ton of characters that are introduced here and it can get a little jarring at times. Luckily, Kubo does a great job at making their designs and characters unique despite such a large cast.

Hueco Mundo Arc - Chapters 183-423 - Rating 7/10
-This is another arc where personally I would split it up into two separate arcs. But for the sake of this review I will simply refer to the first half of the arc and the later half of the arc. First Half 9/10. Second Half. 5/10.
-The first half of this arc is a great continuation of the last. Ichigo now struggles with his inner demons and it affects his ability to protect the ones he loves. We are also introduced to a deadly unknown new villains. The Arrancars/Espada to this day remain one of my favorite villain factions in all of manga enemies.
-Just so you're aware I would say the first half of this arc ends right around the point of Ichigo vs Grimmjow. Grimmjow is one of the first Arrancar that Ichigo faces. And he's also one of two Espada that he faces three times. The conclusion of that fight shows Ichigo conquering his inner demons. Where Grimmjow is very much fighting to establish himself. Grimmjow has to fight Ichigo to prove to his fallen comrades that he is as good as he says he is. He doesn't care about Aizen, he doesn't care about the rest of the Espada. It is very personal for him. For Ichigo, Orohime is within his grasp of saving and he views this as his "final" battle. It's my favorite fight in all of Bleach.
-However, this is where things start to take a bit of dip in quality in my opinion. We had a goal and we were striving towards that goal. Each character of the original cast coming to repay the debt they made to their friend who had risked her life to save them in the Soul society arc. But somewhere along the way it seems we just had a fighter fest. Captains would face enemies with no themes or character revelations. The Espadas got a little light but nothing that made their fights compelling. You almost just feel bad for the Espada as they were monsters turned into a military force by an unstoppable tyrant. But even that wasn't enough to make half of the fights interesting. Now, that's with knowing the outcome. These fights played little importance in the larger scheme of things. Where at least in the Hueco Mundo fights each match up had the protagonists striving for a goal. Rukia to defeat Aaroneiro to free her former superiors soul. Byakuya to defend Rukia. Renji and Uryu teamwork. Nel to protect Ichigo and get revenge on Nnoitra. Whereas Stark fought Kyoraku.....cause.....and Hitsugaya fought Halibel because Water vs Ice would be cool.
-This leaves me to the end. I won't say it wasn't satisfying that Ichigo was able to defeat Aizen. And yes, I do feel like his new power was earned. 3 months of training. But this was clearly a last minute decision to save Aizen for a later date and the show must go on. I do feel like it wasn't as satisfying as 200+ chapter buildup needed to be.

The Fullbring Arc - Chapters 424-479 - Rating: 8/10
-A very underrated arc. And yes, I acknowledge that rating wise I think the Fullbring arc is superior to the Hueco Mundo arc. That is mostly true. Though I like the first half of the Hueco Mundo Arc more than the Fullbring arc. The end of the HM arc really brought it down for me. The Fullbring Arc is much more concise and is actually the shortest arc in the series and works as a glorified Ichigo getting his powers back arc. But that doesn't mean its bad.
-When I read it originally back when it was coming out in 2010. (Cause I'm Old) It wasn't phenomenal. In fact, I hated it. But wouldn't you? It took just short of a year to get to the point that we were at. But upon rereading it, it gave much deserved love to the characters who hadn't been shown love in quite some time. The original cast. It was a very character focused arc. Ichigo never seemed more human. And despite me hating it before for taking so long, reading weekly can sometimes hurt these mystery based arcs. The twist is heavily foreshadowed and I really appreciated it.
-That being said, the end was super rushed. This was a big bummer for me. The villains this time around were humans. And the ones who had the most exposure and relations with these characters were the original cast who again....were humans. So to have the soul reapers, who have no connection to the fullbringers show up and basically no diff most of the fullbringers felt very forced and fanservicey to me. This very well could have not been Kubo's call. As the community was very vocal about their dislike for this arc as it was going on. But I appreciate it now much more as I appreciate character and story over big sword fights. Lol.

The Thousand Year Blood War Arc - Chapters 424-689 - Rating: 5/10
-And we're finally here. The final and largest arc within the Bleach story. And man...does it not stick the landing.
-That being said, this arc has phenomenal moments. Kenpachi's Shikai and Bankai. Ichigo's double swords. Renji's true Bankai. Rukia's Bankai. And many more. However, they are put together against the most break neck speed arc that I have ever read. Kubo was very ambitious when he introduced 26 new villains. However, most of them got barely any screen time and a lot of them even got off screened by higher level captains. This was unlike the Espada who each got a full double page spread for their Resurrections.
-Yhwach himself was a phenomenal villain but was dealt with swiftly and imo dirty. They did him dirty.
-There was just something off. The mood changed and it was very apparent. The villains had random powers instead of the powers reflecting their personalities or needs. The finale felt so underwhelming.
-Ichigo gets to be the strongest he's ever been....but he doesn't defeat a single person besides the main villain despite being in several fights.
-It isn't a good arc. In fact, I would say it's the worst. Hopefully the anime does a better job with this already mammoth of a story. 260 chapters is no joke.

This gives the story of Bleach an Overall rating of 7.4/10. Which to me is above average. It has it's ups and downs. It's not perfect. But when it's high, it's peak shonen. But when it's low, it's very forgettable.

And now on the scene we have Askin Nakk le Vaar – Stern Ritter “D” for Death Dealing. He can calculate the lethal dose of any substance for any person and adjust it accordingly, as he explains to Oh-etsu Nimaiya, but perhaps he has underestimated the Soul Reaper. Some of the Stern Ritter are dismayed to learn that Yhwach has gone above… without them. Does this mean they are unnecessary and rather expendable? It appears that one of Yhwach’s powers is the Consecration – “collecting the lives and powers of unnecessary Quincies and distributing them to those who need it”. Hmmm, seems as though Yhwach is not exactly a humane ruler, is he? Can someone explain why these fools are following him?

Meanwhile, back at the Seireitei, Shunsui speculates about whether the broken structures will return to the way they were once the enemy is defeated. Ukitake says if not, they will rebuild them. Shunsui then tells Ukitake not to push himself, but he is just going to go to Room 46… whatever that means.

In the Reiokyu, Zero Squad member Ichibe Hyosube is up at bat. He tells Yhwach that he shall contain him within certain parameters. The Quincy predicts the Soul Reaper will die three steps short of his goal. Hyosube tells Yhwach not to say his name so lightly and proceeds to slap him with Thousand Ri Heavenly Hand.

The Visoreds, including Yoruichi’s sister, arrive to find only Uruhara, Yoruichi having left with Ichigo and the others. Yushiro is dismayed as she has brought items she thought might be of assistance to her sister. Nothing to be done about it now. Yelling at Kiskue might feel good but gets them nowhere. Hyosube has a power he calls paint it black and involves a sword with no name. Yhwach seems dismayed… until he announces he has just opened his eyes. What does that even mean? And what is this power The Almighty? Will Ichigo and the others arrive in time, or is all doomed?

It’s hard to tell where the balance of power lies at this moment. While it seems as though the Quincies hold all the good cards, and the Zero Squad is putting up a valiant fight, yet we know that somehow Ichigo will save the day – he’s the hero, it’s what he does. The only question is how. And again, I repeat, what part will Uryu play in this? Right now it appears as though he has totally gone over to the Quincies. However I believe that appearances are quite deceptive. Uryu is often hard to read and somewhat of a stubborn cuss, but I think that in the end, he will not betray his friends.

Also, what is Shunsui up to?

Just gotta wait and see! Next volume coming up!

I am hate reading this. It won’t get a higher rating than 1 star until it actually makes me not bored to tears. I’m not sorry. I am so upset. I’m less than 10 volumes from the end and I set out to finish this read around, so finish it I shall even if it is a hate read.

The volume has a chapter titled “What the Hell”, so even the author doesn’t know what’s going on. :)

Most of this volume is one of the Zero division members, Ichibe Hyousube, fighting the Main Bad Guy™. Admittedly Ichibe’s zanpakutou powers are cool. BUT, the member isn’t someone who has been in the series since a bulk of the cast was introduced back in early soul society arc (approx. volume 10). He was just thrown in for this arc since we needed a very powerful good guy shinigami to take on the Main Bad Guy™ to show that Main Bad Guy™ is that badass and powerful. Preferably the powerful good guy shinigami dies for true impact, and Kubo-sensei has already killed off the good guy shinigami’s that he’s willing to kill off. It’s mostly a filler battle, padding out the series until Ichigo can take down the Main Bad Guy™. I guess it is helping build the tension for Ichigo’s final showdown, but it’s not like Ichigo really has a strong connection and history with Ichibe. The impact isn’t strong enough. Make it better, Kubo-sensei.

On to volume 68.

Bleach, Vol. 67 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next ten chapters (602–611) of the on-going manga series.

Ōetsu Nimaiya manages to cancel Askin Nakk Le Vaar's ability and kills him. However, Yhwach uses Auswählen, which allows him to resurrect his elite guard to the detriment of his other Sternritter, killing in the process the Sternritter "N" Robert Accutrone. While the elite guard deals with the members of the Royal Guard, Yhwach faces their leader Ichibē Hyōsube.

As the battle continues and no one has taken advantage, Ichibē releases his Shikai then his Shinuchi, which is a precursor of the Bankai, and manages to completely overwhelm Yhwach. However, the Emperor uses his power "The Almighty" and kills Ichibē. With the Royal Guard defeated, Yhwach heads towards the Spirit King Palace.

Meanwhile, Ichigo Kurosaki's group arrives at the palace and resurrects Ichibē, the latter asks Ichigo to stop Yhwach. At the same time, Yhwach pierces the Spirit King with his sword, while revealing that he is the Spirit King's son.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. The tankōbon continues the second invasion of the Seireitei by the Sternritter. The tankōbon centers on the battle with Yhwach as he approaches the Spirit or Soul King and it is finally revealed that Yhwach is the child of the Spirit King. Ichigo Kurosaki finally arrives at the Soul King’s Palace and is asked to face Yhwach.

All in all, Bleach, Vol. 67 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.

Plot: Holy fuck. Holy mother of fucking god. What the hell. From the volume cover, I already knew Ichibe would be a part of this volume. He scares me but I loved it. The volume was mainly composed of a fight but I don’t really care because it was still so great. Seeing the power of Ichibe Hyosube and Yhwach as they go head-to-head is just great and it excites me to see their fight finally animated.
Characters: Ichibe Hyosube is real creepy, but the strange thing is that I liked it. He’s scary and the fact that his power is just that…that his power could stall Yhwach long enough for Ichigo to arrive is just intimidating. His chant is also so unnerving! The way he looks so amused while fighting is eerie. Regardless, I enjoyed the volume for that reason alone.
Verdict: Phenomenal! This is a great setup for the next fight to come and I loved the fight between Ichibe Hyosube and Yhwach. The powers revealed and everything else was great too. Really fucked me up seeing those panels of Ichibe, though.
