In the months just after the end of WW II, two deadly and cunning women find themselves pitted against each other in a lethal game of cat-and-mouse. One was Nazi Germany's top spy now working for the United States: her opponent, Soviet Russia's most feared assassin. Fall from Valhalla is a superbly researched uber-thriller set in the clandestine world of undercover 'spooks' and 'ghosts' operating during the earliest days of the Cold War.
Mike Whicker is a Colorado native. He now resides in the Midwest. Whicker is the author of the Erika Lehmann WW II spy trilogy, Invitation to Valhalla, Blood of the Reich, and Return to Valhalla. Whicker also authored the novel Proper Suda.
Nothing will match the first book in this series, Invitation to Valhalla, but Whicker does a credible job of conveying what the spy situation was like after World War II and the beginning of the Cold War. Seems particularly relevant given the recent spying and hacking done by Russia to influence elections in USA. It is also informative about the beginnings of the CIA, also of current interest. Erika Lehman continues to be a fascinating character.
I became interested in the first book because it took place in my hometown. The series has continued with Erika lehmann as our principle spy working for various countries. There is action and intrigue throughout the book and they seem well researched. This installment features more adult language than previous books
