1000 Days: The Ministry of Christ

Rate this book
THERE IS A UNIVERSAL RESTLESSNESS TODAY AMONG BELIEVERS, YOUNG AND OLD - UNEASE, UNHAPPINESS, AND UNREST THAT EXISTS IN OUR PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.

Unarguably we find the answer in the life and salvation of Jesus Christ. Undeniably the miracles of His virgin birth, death on the cross, and resurrection from the grave hold the key to eternal life and ultimate joy. But what if in addition to these awaited a miracle revealed in Jesus' three years of public ministry, the roughly 1,000 days that followed His life of otherwise relative obscurity?the 1,000 days that were intentionally lived and documented?

In 1,000 Days Jonathan Falwell presents the unique chance to study this miracle, looking closely at those last three years in Jesus' life and revealing vital information from the gospels for our lives today. Meet Jesus like never before when you take a second (or maybe third or fourth) look at what He said in those 1,000 days. Each chapter also includes a special Bible study for use either by individuals or small groups.

Find rest in His invitation to make His mission your mission. Discover, as Falwell has, that a picture of the life of Jesus is worth a thousand days.

I loved the book and thought it was very enlightening. Below are the things that really resonated with me:

* Falwell makes the point that Jesus did not need to have a three-year ministry to save us. Salvation only took three days.

* Jesus came to minister to us for three years to demonstrate how to love one another.

* Falwell explains the Beatitudes and Jesus' seven messages from The Cross.

* "The loudest sermon ever delivered by anyone was given without a word. Jesus simply walked out of the grave. That act said, "Jesus wins!"

The time you spend reading "1,000 Days" may very well be the most well spent time of your life. This is not a book, it's a journey; Jesus isn't just a Savior, He is Lord. Jonathan Falwell presents the days of Christ's ministry in a down to earth, powerful way that will draw your spirit and transform your soul.

The author doesn't present every move of Jesus, but the most vital aspects of His ministry and teachings. The author tackles the tough issues regarding the decision to follow Him, or not. He holds nothing back, and neither did Jesus, when addressing the hypocrites. The question in this entire book, is "Where do YOU fit in?" to Jesus' ministry. Have you walked away like the rich man . . . followed Him, only to later deny Him like Peter, or are you wholly devoted to Him, enduring until the end?

At times, I felt the stories were a little too familiar for the Christian that is further along in their faith walk, but as soon as I would think that, Falwell blind sided me with powerful insight and caused me to dig deeper in my faith than I ever have. I suddenly found myself highlighting throughout the book . . . questions that I will study and ponder which had a powerful impact upon the moment that I read them. You can't study the ministry of Christ and not self examine your faith. Well, you can, but you'd be in the "hypocrite" crowd. I found this book to be most powerful in understanding the importance of Jesus' teachings. I found that the content answered the "whys" of why Jesus said and did the things He did. I found myself examining my faith and realizing that although I've come so far, I still have eternity to go. The author's warm and powerfully inviting writing style draws you in, just like Jesus.

This is a book about the ministry of Christ (which happens to be the subtitle as well)—about those last three years —those last 1000 days of His life here on earth.

I loved that there were reflection questions and a Bible study guide included for each chapter—lots of ways to dig deeper if you wanted to.

The author included lots of personal stories to illustrate the points he was making. I found the stories to be truly interesting and truly related to the point—not merely “filler” material as they sometimes turn out to be.

The author was not afraid to tackle theological issues. I especially liked that he included a section on hell—an issue that lots of people try to avoid talking about at all costs.

There were a couple of times when I was reading through this book that I found myself bored but most of it was engaging and at the very least any reader will find plenty of wholesome food for thought especially with all those questions included that I mentioned earlier.

If you want to study what Jesus did in His last three years—His years of ministry—check this book out. As I said, at the very least, it will give you plenty of food for thought.

I was expecting a book about the ministry of Christ, but that's not what this book was at all. It talked about a lot of things, but was most certainly did not take us deeper into His 1,000 days of ministry. I won't be recommending this book, even though it sounded like it would bring me to a deeper understanding of Christ, that was far from what I got out of it.

*I did receive my copy free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
