Tedd grew up with three brothers. His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years then returned to Elmira until Tedd was ten years old. His father's work then required that they move to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd's first art lessons in an abandoned dentist's office over the Happy Hour pool hall eventually led to a fine arts degree from the University of Florida.
He and his wife, Carol, started their family in Tallahassee where Tedd worked as a commercial illustrator. Carol, a kindergarten teacher, drew Tedd's attention to children's books. Their first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!.
He and his family now live in Elmira. His second son, William, now stars in NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, a sequel to his first book. He has now published over 50 books as author and illustrator.
Pure fun and nostalgia and fun memories of reading to my children. They're now young adults, and we treasure this book. When I read this to them, they hadn't yet experienced snow, so this was even more fun.
Kinda surprised I liked it as much as I did. I was looking for a book to introduce a winter activities writing assignment to my 1st graders and stumbled on this in a box of books another teacher gave me. I love that it has a plot so we can practice retelling and summarizing. I love that it’s humorous as these creatures discover the “white stuff” and try to enjoy it as much as they can. I love that it’s written in such a way we can make predictions. I love that it’s a seasonal book that lends to discussing winter, snow days, and snow activities. I love that there’s a humorous surprise towards the end of the book that I think will have us all laughing. My only concern is whether a book about monsters might be a bit much for sensitive first graders. There are about 5 mentions of the word “monsters” so I’m contemplating just omitting and replacing with pronouns.
