Death Dealer Gath of Baal searches for Noon, Queen of the Cats, accompanied by a motley crew--the bounty hunter, Gazul, the Doctor Doolittle-like animal lover, Bilbarr, and Fleka, the obsequious and sexually generous slave girl
In this third book in the Death Dealer Series, Gath of Baal journeys to the mysterious jungles of the Daangall with a slaver bent on capturing the cat queen Noon.
I continue to enjoy this series. Gath shows more of his gentler side this time around but he's still an unstoppable killing machine with or without the help of the Death Lord's helmet. I really liked Gazul as the bad guy and Bilbarr, the young boy who can talk to animals. I don't like Fleka so much, but maybe I just miss the more complicated Cobra. Anyway, the fight scenes are still awesome, especially the one where Gath goes up against a massive saber tooth tiger. I can't wait to read the next book and see if he ends up back with Robin and the Grillards.
A slight detour from first two books. Introduces some new characters, as well as setting.
One of the nice things about this one. It does give a brief glimpse. Maybe into the main characters origins. It does not tell all. Still, leaves you with more, than before about him.
Not a bad read, if you like this area of the genre.
Third book in a four book series based on Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer. Gath of Baal, the Death Dealer goes in search of Noon, Queen of Cats in the steaming jungles of Daangall. Great series I compare to the books about Conan. Shame there were only 4 books and they are now hard to find.
I enjoyed this third book in the Death Dealer series. Gath leaves behind the supporting cast of the first two novels and forges ahead with new people around him, this time to a dangerous, primal jungle. We also get insight into the barbarian's mysterious past.
After I finished this tome and started the last one, I kept discovering a very well created world preceding our history as we know it...a set of plots that makes you want to read the next page in a hurry just to see what happens next. James Silke really made the fury of the first book flow through all the following ones, and we start to like more and more the characters as the stories are developing; he makes you discover a different side of the personality of all his characters in each story, as you follow them over a four-year span of adventures. I am glad that I finally got hold of that series...it is well worth reading, and I am sure I will read it again and again.
I cannot wait to see how the whole story ends in the fourth and last one, "Plague of Knives".
I personally will put those books with my Robert E. Howard, Michael Moorcock, George R.R. Martin, R.A. Salvatore and J.R.R. Tolkien's collections...that series belongs with them without a doubt.
More vintage 1980s fantasy cheese. If you like that sort of thing, add all the stars. If you don't like it, subtract all the stars. Personally, I think this is a fun book. Don't take it too seriously, and enjoy lines like:
"'By Zard it was something to watch, it was. You scared the Zatt out of them!' As Zard was the god of blood and Zatt the god of urine, the words were designed as a compliment, but the Barbarian’s only reaction was a brutish grunt."
Záver knižky znova brutálny a efektný. V hlavnej úlohe sa mi v hlave stále mihal Arnold, akurát nie s obojručným mečom ale sekerkou. Teraz som zvedavý na 4.diel, či dokáže prekvapiť, alebo zapadne do stereotypu.
This was third in a series of books based on Frank Frazetta's painting of Death Dealer. There are 4 in the series and all have covers featuring the Death Dealer character.
I had very high hopes for these and they didn't quite live up to what I hoped for, but that's not the author's fault. They were in general pretty good, with an interesting character and a lot of bloody good fighting.
