Something extra-wicked this way comes! Ren and Rai play with fire when they sell their souls to the demon Diablo to save Ren's cousin. Diablo give Ren the power of ultimate defense. However, those who fall into the Diablo's trap start to go crazy at 17, and at age 18 they reach the point of no return...
When I was younger, my mom bought me Diabolo in an attempt to get me to read something other than Harry Potter. Really, if it wasn't for that chance purchase, I wouldn't be into manga or anime today. That being said, I still have all three volumes sitting on a bookshelf. So, going back to that series, I decided to pick it now.
The only question I gave myself was, "How did I like this series?" The main problem I have with the manga is the characters. They're not really that realistic. Ren and Rai, the two lead characters, have really choppy dialogue and they don't really act in a way that gets me attached to them. Ren's past in the last chapter of the volume didn't really solidify anything either.
The story doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere either. The minor characters don't really add anything to the manga and it just feels like there's just little pieces of story. There's no real structure to the first volume.
The only reason the first volume of Diabolo isn't a one is because of the art. I rather liked the art, actually. It's not unique in anyway, but it's consistent, which is nice to see in the first volume of any manga. The characters and setting are designed pretty well, also.
Really, I wouldn't be reading the second volume if I didn't already have it. Hopefully the series will get better as I get through the last two books.
Weird and twisted. Took me more than half the volume to figure out what was happening, and even then I still felt lost. Curious if I get a better sense of things in volume 2.
Fairly standard "making a deal with the devil" theme. While not much in the way of an original concept, the story had some promise -- until you read it. It doesn't read well at all: the flashbacks are oddly-placed, the dialogue is confusing, and the story simply does not flow well.
The artwork is good, so it has that going for it. But that's about it. Note that this is intended for older teens due to a few scenes of graphic violence (and probably because there is some talk of teen pregnancies).
I think I enjoyed this manga a little more when I was younger. I originally rated it four stars but rereading it I give it a three. It's not that it's bad it's just that I guess I've read way more in-depth mangas over the years so it changes my opinion on this short series. I do always enjoy dark kind of gothic, demonic style manga. This has the dark context but the plot kind of leaves a little to be desired.
It's a little bit everywhere, but I'm a little more lenient on it because it's the first book, so it's focusing on world building. This one focuses more on stories of different characters, the girl in the second story making incredibly small appearances later in the series. It's okay. I like it enough, but it's a little unfocused. It's interesting enough to make me want to read the next book.
A super fun read. It was violent, it's rated "OT". But, it had it all: horror, plot, action.
Two boys make a wish when a girl is in trouble. They would do anything to keep her alive. They made a deal with the devil! They gained super human abilities (for the time being) and since then they have been searching for the girl.
These books are so amazing and in debth, not acactly what you think of with yaoi but the plot is great. Diabolo definatly has some things you really don't see often in yaoi/ shonen-ai manga.
I've had this manga for years and decided to read it again. It's not as good as I remember, due to some of the characters, but I really liked the plot.
The dialogue was choppy and awkward. The story wasn't making sense. And there was something off about the art. Not sure what it was, but I didn't like it. Sorry. It sounded like a good story. But the way it was executed just wasn't for me. Maybe if it was a different author/ artist, I'd have liked it better. But not as it is.
Just not my cup of coffee. I've got to many things I want to read and to much awful adulting to do to dick around with a series I'm not loving.
