Overall, this is well written. The novel packs an emotional wallop as Doran adjusts to life as a new stepmother to a young teenager who has a debilitating disease and a lousy attitude that puts strain on her marriage. Seeing the inner workings of the British Antique Roadshow from the relative early days was interesting. However there was too much time spent on prattle and literary quoting which real people don't do to this degree. There isn't enough focus on the actual mystery and detection.

This was an easy to read cozy set in England about murders at an antiques roadshow. The main character is a young woman with a small antique shop, who is married to a Keats loving vicar with a terribly behaved jealous step-daughter.

This is second in a series and I do believe I might read the first. In comparison to modern cozies, I found this to be more intelligently written (maybe the Keats & other literary references) and the characters more likable.

Mollie Hardwick is also the author of: "Upstairs, Downstairs".

Hardwick doesn't let you off easy with her characters - this time not-quite-newlywed Doran goes off to take part in Antiques Roadshow and ends up stuck in a country house murder mystery with a man she is very attracted to. I'm an escapist but I enjoyed all the literary allusions and keen view of human frailty, even if I'm not a believer in being irresistably drawn to cheat on your spouse. Very quick read.

I liked this story better then the first in this series. I was more familiar with the main character now, and more familiar with her style of writing. Plus I feel this was better told, was more interesting in general, and better all round. I might even try and find more books in this series.
