After a haphazard career spent working and travelling around the world, I stumbled into romance writing as a way to fund a PhD. My first book, A Sweeter Prejudice, came out in 1991, and since then I've written a further 59 books, some of which have won awards in the US and the UK.
I live in York, a historic city in the north of England, and waste the best part of my days planning trips away or on Facebook and Twitter, both of which mean that I end up writing late into the night. As well as romance, I write 'time slips' as Pamela Hartshorne, and am a freelance project editor and occasional writing tutor.

In May 2013 I will publishing the Jessica Hart Vintage Collection of five of my early books from the 90s.

3.5 stars. A realistic portrayal of two adults who fall in love, yet recognize that the HEA is not as simple as it used to be. He is a widower with three teenage children. She is a 40 year old career woman juggling work and taking care of an aging mother with dementia. She is also on the rebound from a disastrous relationship with a divorced man who could not prioritize her above his children and ex-wife.

This a sweet and realistic portrayal of love between two mature adults as they make their way to a HEA.

Really more a 4 1/2 stars -- I would have given it 5 stars if not for the stupid title (definitely only partially accurate and giving a wrong impression of the story) and the cover. The cover wasn't entirely sketchy but neither of them are wearing the right clothes. With all the money Harlequin makes hand over fist, why can't the cover folks match the picture with the content.

BUT I quibble. The story was great. Forty year-old heroine, a career-woman who is increasingly having to deal/cope/manage her mum's declining health (even though she has two useless brothers) ... who has been hurt very badly before by a boyfriend with children and a demanding ex. It's just good, good but not perfect hero, realistic teens, fun friends (I wonder if they get their own books?) and enough misty rain to make the rainbow at the end glorious.

This book has the worst title in the world.

However, that being said, there were are lot of good points. The characters were older than usual, which was a nice change. They also acted their ages. They had realistic problems. There was some satisfying angstiness to how they overcame them to reach their HEA. I'll definitely be looking for more books by this author.

So good. OMG - SO GOOD! A romance novel about grown-ups who have real grown-up problems. 40-year-old heroine struggling to take care of her mother, who is in failing health, ends up falling for her boss, a widower with three teenage kids. The fly in the ointment? Her last relationship, to another single father, imploded in spectacular fashion - and, oh yeah, he's her boss.

You've just met your new, rather attractive boss. Do you:
a) Introduce yourself in a professional manner?
b) Go weak at the knees and smile?
c) Call him a 'pretentious city hotshot?
Perdita James resents wasting work time on a leadership course - especially when the personality quiz she takes reveals she's an attention-seeking peacock!
Edward Merrick is a panther - forceful, decisive, and more than a little ruthless.
But as Perdita gets to know gorgeous Ed outside of the office, and meets his warmly chaotic family, she begins to realize that the only promotion she really wants is...to wife and mother!
Copied from back cover.
