Lena Corwin began illustrating city maps monthly for an interiors magazine in 2004 at the suggestion of her brother-in-law Noah, a magazine designer. This book is a collection of her forty favorite maps. When she started, she turned to her shelves of vintage books for inspiration – and then pinpointed her own drawing style. The maps are a the mix of accuracy and fantasy. Each map is drawn very precisely, with roads and points of interest, but Lena takes an artistic liberty in changing aspects, like the colors and style, to her liking. Ten maps have an accompanying interview with a shop owner from the city. This collection of colorful maps is beautifully printed on thick, white paper within a textured hardbound cream cover.

Lena Corwin is a textile designer and illustrator based in Brooklyn. She has done work for Marithé + François Girbaud, Calvin Klein, Jill Stuart, and Elle Decor magazine. She also illustrated Stewart, Tabori and Chang’s Kids Crochet and Kids Weaving.
