Who's the Daddy? #1

One Bear and a Baby

Rate this book
After years away, bear shifter, Cade, has gone home to Tawny Valley. With a baby. Which attracts the attention of the local sheriff, Isabelle.

And what self-respecting sheriff wouldn’t be suspicious? So maybe he has every right to be a single father. And yes he is entitled to his privacy. Except when that one bear with a baby, just happens to be her mate. That gives her the right to find out exactly what’s going on … doesn’t it?

Cade has sole guardianship of Maisie. When the beautiful little girl’s mom, Jenni, turns up scared and then leaves in the middle of the night, he has no choice but to become her father. Not that he simply accepted Jenni running off, but despite his best efforts he couldn’t trace her. He only knows she’s alive because she sent him a message telling him to back off because he is putting them all in danger.

So he goes back to his small home town, knowing it is the best place to keep Maisie safe from whoever might be looking for her.

Isabelle Malone was recruited specifically to be the sheriff in Tawny Valley because she is a shifter. She takes her job very seriously, especially when Cade comes into town, with a baby, and her suspicions are raised as to the child’s welfare. What she isn’t expecting is for him to be her mate.

Once secrets are shared, can they work together to keep Maisie safe? And make sure she has the kind of happy childhood she deserves.

One Bear and a Baby is the first book in a brand new series of standalone bear shifters and babies books. Full of heart warming bear shifters and their mates, you will always be guaranteed a happy ever after.

Meh.........

This book had a generic feel to it. It felt like numerous other shifter romances I've read. I was never really a fan of the heroine in this one. Perhaps that was why I didn’t care much for this one. She just had an intrusive and selfish feel to her character. I am glad it was offered as a kindleunlimited though

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the connection between Cade and Isabelle and thought they were great together. Fate sure knew what it was doing matching them together just when Cade came back to town with wee Maisie who he’s protecting and who better to help him protect Maisie and find Maisie’s mother Jenni than his mate who also happens to be the Sheriff. Cade met Jenni while they were both on the same job Undercover to try and break up a dr*g ring. Cade and Jenni solved their case then went onto seperate jobs. It had been about a year since Cade had heard from Jenni when she shows up on his doorstep with Maisie telling him that she’d been set up and he needs to protect Maisie. I’d recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

I loved this book

I love Harmony Raines' stories. They are hot, sexy, stories of finding your true mate. The way the characters interact with family, friends & other people who come into lives is important to the plot & stories. Cade & Isabella Malone must work to rescue Jenni from Cade & Jenni's former boss. Stanhope has been blackmail ing Jenni into working for him to keep her baby Maisie safe with Cade. Isabelle is the sheriff of Cafe's home town & helps him prove that Jenni is not a bad person. This story has everything a reader wants, mystery, blackmail, a love story & a happy ending for all involved.

Great short little story. Love how Cade went above and beyond for a lady he worked with and taken on her child while she was in danger. Ends up meeting his mate while he return home to give the child the safety and protection of his family... the new sheriff in town is doing her job when she goes to meet the stranger who just returned to the town with a young baby in tow to discover the stranger is her mate.

Intense and romantic...

I have to say this wasn't what I expected from this book. At first the characters were fighting against each other until they realized that they were both on the same side. They were great for each other. Cade was fiercely protective of little maisie and Isabelle soon was too. Together the fight to relieve Cade's guilt so their lives can truly begin.

Harmony Raines is a very talented author and she knows how to write a series and keep you interested in the whole series. “One Bear and a Baby” is no exception to this rule. Your grabbed at the beginning of the book and you will not put it down till the end of the book. Trust me you do not want to miss this series.

Cade is a bear shifter who has been away from home for many years, then out of the blue he returns to Tawny Valley and with baby Maisie. Jenni, Maisie’s mom, gave Cade full custody of Maisie in order to protect her from whoever Jenni is running from. A mystery that Cade tried to solve but Jenni told him to not try to find her because it only would put Maisie in danger. Returning home with Maisie was the only thing he could think of to protect Maisie, but in doing that he raises the suspicions of the town Sheriff, Isabelle Malone with him not being married. Isabelle was given the job as Sheriff because she is a shifter and Tawny Valley is a shifter town. The hardest thing for Isabelle to accept was that Cade was her mate and he is acting suspicious. So, she figures that she has the right to check him out since he is her mate and she has to look after the welfare of the baby…. doesn’t she? Will Isabelle be able to help Cade protect Maisie? Will Isabelle be able to prove that Cade has Maisie’s best interests at heart? Will Cade and Isabelle be able to find the love that mates have for each other?

No Spoilers. Advanced Reader Copy read voluntarily.

This is a short but wonderful and interesting book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The story covers Cade, a bear shifter who has returned home with a baby girl (Maisie) to Tawny Valley after many years away and unbeknown to anybody a undercover cop. Isabella Malone, a bear shifter and the local sheriff who is very suspicious of Cade, who has just returned home with a baby later on she questions him and realizes that he is her mate. What you will find in the story is drama, suspense, suspicions, a mom on the run, a baby, returning home, lies/untruths, discovering old cigarette burn on child's leg, visiting Cade, questions, mates, arrested, jail, a discussion, undercover cop, sick leave, free to go, a date, shifting, a run on the mountains, thrill of the chase, intimate moments, looking for mom, hotel, words of love, emotional feelings, finding mom of baby, attempted blackmail, crooked cop "Stanhope" arrested, romance and erotic scenes. The story-line and plot are well thought out and written. The characters have personalty with emotional needs and desires. I would recommend this book to people that like to read a good shapeshifter book with a HEA.

Really 2-1/2 stars. It was rather mediocre. This book is like a tv dinner. All the elements are there but the portions are small and not very tasty. The contents didn't match up to the picture on the box.
Some parts I thought lacking:
1-The bear half of these shifters weren't very bear like. Except for better hearing (DO bears have Super Hearing?) the bears didn't play any role in the story. They were just ordinary cops with a little better hearing.
2-When the sheriff saw her fated mate for the first time she didn't trust him until they had sex. Then she knew he was completely trustworthy and he could move in with her and be together for the rest of their lives. They had instant relationships, simply add water no depth. But for a short story lacking in courting they managed to fit in 3 sex scenes.
It was just a short story sure but the quality of writing didn't impress me enough to seek out any more by this author.

Dramatic suspense in the shifter world.

Cade is a bear shifter, a uncover cop, and a father to a baby named Maisie? He turn up to his parents' home with the abandon mate? Is he on the run? Did he kidnapped the baby? Isabelle is the sheriff and she has many questions Cafe is her mate but he reject her!

Jennifer is his partner for a time in the past, however he doesn't know what going on except Maisie's mom is in trouble. Danger begins.

Characters are realistic and believable. The storyline is a mixture of drama, suspense, and sometimes funny moments in the life of a small close knitted town. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to my friends.

What a sweet read with a kickass heroine.
Loved that Isabelle tasered and cuffed cade. What a hoot. Really liked her for her good sense and compassion. Her reasoning for getting involved was a genuine one after seeing that burn mark on Maisie.
Cade was really nice with a touch of silly male but at least he fessed up nearly straight away.
A really good storyline that was plausible and interesting.
It was good to see Jenni get her payback and Masie was just a cutie. It was a really good solid ending that you could see working for everyone.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

Nosey Sheriff

I generally like Harmony Raines' books. This one was a little off-putting because of the plot starter. I didn't like it that the sheriff felt it was her duty to investigate the arrival of this man and what could naturally have been his child. It was none of her business. It felt like harassment to me, like she was berating his mother because she had nothing better to do.

Cade, Isabelle and Jenni. This was an interesting HEA story. It is unusual to have a story where a mother abandons her child with an unrelated male. The author took this premise and created a story where he and his mate saved the motherland themselves.

This unfortunately was not great, but just O.K. The plot was reasonable, but their relationship was all over the place. Also, there were too many errors. It troubles me to know that with as many stories as this author has written, there are so many errors.
