While some of this book may be outdated since it was published in 2008 the vast majority is current and only a few minor things have changed that I have noticed.

I happened upon this book while in Maine at the Lighthouse Depot and I am so glad that I found this book, it made my lighthouse adventures in New England so much easier! I wish I had found this book earlier in my trip as the directions are spot on and easy and the information is priceless.

What I like best about this book is the title page for each lighthouse which has the name of the lighthouse, a picture, brief synopsis, accessibility, coordinates, nearest city, year established, height of tower, optic and more. It is an easy way to glimpse at a page and know if it's a lighthouse you want to pursue or not. Each lighthouse has 2-4 pages devoted to it, telling a quick history and usually a tale or two that is unique to the lighthouse. Then there is detailed directions on how to view the lighthouse if it is viewable by light or how best to view it by boat.

I have used this book for a few trips and plan on continue to utilize it for many more to come! I hope that this author releases more of these books in the future.

This is an excellent handbook for discovering lighthouses in New England, for it has not only current locations, addresses, phone numbers, et cetera, but it also provides the history of each lighthouse, historical photographs, and current ones, too, plus photographs of those men and women who ran them so long ago.

The writing style flows well, and it is evident that this handbook was well-researched.

Must-have reference book for lighthouse lovers! The part that I found most helpful in trip-planning is the first item listed under each title and that’s “accessibility”. Many of the lighthouses are either located on little islands or are private property, so you can’t view them at all unless you have a boat.

Livre de visite très complet et utile pour les phares de la nouvelle Angleterre. Pratique pour quand je vais sortir du Québec.
