Jamie Pope first fell in love with romance at thirteen when her mother placed a novel in her hands. She became addicted to love stories and has been writing them ever since. When she's not writing her next book, you can find her shopping for shoes or binge-watching shows.
I won this via Goodreads Giveaways in exchange for an honest review. All my opinions are my own :). ---- I appreciate being sent the book, but just couldn't get into it:(
The first time Cass's life changes is when her best friend and next door neighbor Terrance inherits a foster brother named Wylie. An almost love triangle emerges, though it's never discussed and one of the two men refuses to see what is staring him plainly in the face.
Then tragedy strikes. Cass's life as she planned it changes forever the day a deranged father with a gun walks into her elementary school and holds her and her students hostage. Cass risks her life to save her students by leading the gunman away from her classroom into the hall. In the hallway, her worried husband pleads with her and the gunman and what happens next changes her life forever.
Emerging from a coma a couple months later Cass has lost her will to live believing that what happened is her fault instead of the man that pulled the trigger. A year goes by and Cass is at death's door, so her mother calls her childhood friend to help her want to live again. We relive their love and separation and why she married .
It takes weeks for Cass to emerge from the dark cloud she lives under and she does thanks in part to nephew, Teo. Teo's mother Nova ( half-sister) is distant and holds her child at arms length. Though, Teo loves his mother, he is searching for a mother figure and finds it in Cass. Teo's innocence and natural curiosity will warm your heart and break it. Teo is the balm that soothes the harboring demons of Cass's soul along with the love of and the new friends she's made along the way.
This is the story of love hope tragedy and redemption. The story was so Will told I have recommended it to anyone who will listen. It’s definitely a tearjerker the story starts off right away and you completely drawn into the story. I am so happy that I stumbled upon this author two books ago in this series she has a way of writing that put you right in the middle of it and you pause and think what would I do in the situation. But I want you you will definitely need your handkerchief to wipe your eyes. 😥🤧 definitely five stars all around I can’t wait to read another one of her stories.
This is a wonderful book about second chances, proving that Publishers Weekly got it right with its starred review. After Cass's lifelong BFF and husband gets killed in a school shooting, she's grief-stricken. Then Wylie James (love that name)--the old love who left years ago without an explanation--returns and forces her to start living again.
This is a heartfelt story about overcoming grief, acknowledging mistakes, and being authentic. While there are love scenes, the majority of this romantic women's fiction story is about the tenderness and touching moments between two people who've always cared deeply for the other. Bonus, is it largely set on Martha's Vineyard, so you get that escape element, too.
I enjoyed the way the author lets you experience Cass's reawakening. It is not instant...it is slow, painful, and sometimes gets sidetracked. For me, the realism is a key reason this book works so well. The other main thing I loved? Wylie James. He's the kind of sympathetic hero we love to root for. His childhood was far from perfect, yet he maintained integrity and an open heart in the face of it all. Who doesn't want a guy like him to get an HEA?
The cast of characters on the island is quite lovable (especially little Teo). If you're like me, you'll be eager for Tanner and Nova's story. They have interesting chemistry!
If you are looking for a story about people learning to trust themselves and each other again, this book will hit those notes and more.
Was she the prize for two men, or just one? When I first started reading, I had a feeling the story would be different than by the time it ended, and I was correct, ah Mundo... Terrance sounded like a control freak, and Cassandra allowed him to do his thing. Wylie James was a cowboy with spurs and all. I liked the way the author didn't beat me over the head with their racial differences. Wylie's sister Nova always seemed hesitant around her brother, and her 5year old son, who was turning 50, was adorable. I loved that kid to pieces. He added so much love to this story. I'll be happy to see this crew again someday.
Cassandra Miller is a happily married school teacher whose husband happens to work at the same school as her. One day a terrible tragedy strikes and Cass's life changes forever. She sinks into a deep hopeless depression and feels that life is no longer worth living. A best friend from her past, who disappeared from her life unexpectedly over 10 years ago suddenly shows up at her door. Wylie Everett takes her to his home and decides he will help her heal from all her pain and suffering.
The complicated emotions run very deep in this beautifully told story. Cass has a second chance at love but the uncertainly as to whether or not she will accept it is a major part of the story. I enjoyed the writing, the way the story flowed, and the theme of the book so very much. Even though it was a romance novel, I still found it to be a page turner. The author, Jamie Pope, is very talented and gifted. I hope to read more of her books soon!
Another great love story. I’m sorry for the lost of a friendship and a love for both Cass and Wylie but that’s life. Only God knows our destiny. Great job.
An early tragedy brought them together, different stations in life tore them apart, and another tragedy brought them back together again.
Cassandra, Terrance, and Wylie have known each other since childhood. They were the best of friends. But more existed between this trio than just friendship. Terrance the spoiled, entitled, can-do-nothing-wrong teen has set his sights and his heart on Cassandra. But to her, he’s the brother she never had. From first glance, Cassandra was taken by Wylie. He is everything she’s been told a girl of her station should not want. Despite the differences of their class and culture, these two are drawn together like magnets.
Fighting his own demons, Wylie struggles to find permanence, family and love after his family is torn apart. External influences and internal turbulence force him to abandon all that is familiar in search of finding the man he truly is, leaving a devastated Cassandra in his wake.
Tragedy within the close-knit group causes secrets and lies to be exposed, as they are drawn back together again. As each soul searches to explore their feelings about each other, the hand that life has dealt them, and themselves, decisions of the grandest kind must be made. But has too much time, too much hurt, too much betrayal damaged the beauty that was formed so many years before in the innocence of youth or can the bonds of friendship and love cover the multitude of mistakes, time and distance that has separated them?
Hope Blooms is a beautifully written story that captured my attention from the first line. A tender story of love, loss, betrayal, and the ties that bind, this is the kind of story I love to read. It’s written in just the right pace, making this reader feel as if she were taking a meandering walk in the countryside while watching gentle and beautifully written scenes to float by on the clouds. I could feel each emotion - their love, frustration, pain, sadness, and longing leaping off the pages. Hope Blooms is a deeply felt story with many layers and such depth, at times I needed to just inhale fully in order to take it all in. This is one of the best contemporary love stories I’ve read in a long time. Jamie Pope has found a spot among my favorite authors!

As Hope Blooms begins, we meet Cassandra Miller, a woman who has given up on life and happiness after losing her husband, Terrance. An old friend comes to see her and lets her know that he will not let her give up.
Wylie Everett returns to Harmony Falls, a marine and a friend. He has loved Cassandra from a far and now wants to help her through this hard time. As Wylie helps Cassandra heal, past feelings resurface and he will have to face the pain he has not dealt with before moving forward. While Cassandra will have to decide if she can let her husband go to live again.
Hope Blooms is a compelling story that takes you on a journey of pain and loss but overpowers it with love and compassion. The author does a wonderful job including the reader in every aspect of the character’s lives. I felt so close to Cassandra and Wylie but could also relate to the feelings Terrance’s mother, Patricia displayed. The setting of the book was perfect and the conflicts that arise are realistic, which makes you keep turning the pages. Having never read Jamie Pope’s writing, I can say this first experience has me hooked. I definitely recommend Hope Blooms to others and I look forward to the next book in this series.
4.25 STARS. This is a gem. The author has created lovely characters with endearing stories that follow a well developed tragic storyline of enduring love. Cassandra "Cass" Miller and Wylie James Everett and Terrance are teenage friends. Terrance and Cassandra are born into upper middle class families and are childhood friends who were expected to marry each other. Wylie 's father and Terrance's father were best friends and when Wiley's father died, Wylie was raised by Terrance's father. The 'monkey wrench' was that Cassandra and Wiley fell in love. Cassandra married Terrance after Wiley was run out of town by her and Terrance's parents. Terrance is killed during an elementary school school shooting where he and his pregnant wife Cassandra work. When Cassandra spends a year in deep depression, her mother, Cora, spends for Wylie James and he takes Cass home with him where she and he start healing. They get pregnant and become engaged to marry. Their's is a very moving story and I look forward to reading his sister, Nova and his friend, Tanner's love story.
I love, love, love this book. I had a hard time putting the book down. The author does an amazing job of writing about pain, lose, grief and PTSD. The characters and the storyline are believable. I think everyone should read and will enjoy reading this book. I can't wait until the next book arrives.
This book had a very intense beginning but mellowed out during the rest of the story. The characters were realistic and the author provided an awesome description of the setting. I also appreciated that the story dealt with a lot of issues that many people are dealing with such as love, loss, trust, forgiveness and PTSD. Overall, I really enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more books by this author. I was given an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
i was the lucky winner of a copy of this novel through a goodreads win. it is a very emotional tale about learning to love again after tragedy strikes. it is about finding the strength to go on and live your life even if it is not the life you envisioned. it is also about dealing with survivor guilt. i could not put this one down.
APB Perspective Reviews: I felt this book was a good beginning of the Journey Cassandra and Wylie, they had a sweet tragic and romantic story. The author showed that love is a powerful thing, and I felt like their love guided through life even when the were apart. I want to know what else happens with Wylie and Cass , I enjoyed this book , and I can't wait to read Nova's story .
I enjoyed this book a lot. The storyline was great as well as the characters. It definitely had it touching moments. This is the first book I've read from this author and it definitely won't be my last. I would definitely recommend it to my book loving family and friends.
This is a very powerful, emotional, filled story that takes you on a journey of to people’s lives, really three and more. The book opens with Cassandra Miller a school teacher of a kindergarten class and a tragedy begins when one of her students’ father is coming into the school demanding to have his daughter. She knows she needs to do something different and along with her aide has the children leave through a window, and across the field to the fire station. That is until she hears her husband’s voice in the hall trying to talk to the armed man. To no avail he gets shot along with her and before she passes out the police take out the parent. Not a way to open a book but I must say it works. After months of recovery Cassandra though out of the hospital is still not getting herself out of bed. She is extremely depressed. Somehow her mother has found her long lost friend and ex-Marine Wylie James. He comes and takes her away from the town to where he is living and his house. The story gives you glimpses back into what their lives were like growing up, for Cassandra, Wylie, and her husband grew up together and she and her husband were next door neighbors. As she is healing so to be the memories coming back and you as the reader are given two stories in one. The current, and the past you are given a look into how things were from each of their perspectives, and this helps make the story become clearer. This is a love story but they have to deal with the past and she wants to know why he left ten years without a word. This and a few other things really all lead up to a great ending. The characters in the book were all very good, especially Theo, and Wylie’s sister. This is a very good book. That takes you on a ride from the beginning to the end, not many books can do that but this does. Outstanding! I got this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. HOPE & LOVE - Hope Blooms #1 [When tragedy destroys everything you've built, how do you find the strength to go on? Hope Blooms by Jamie Pope is related to the narratives of three other stories. Love Blooms, Stay Until Dawn and Stay For Me all involve marines and their connections from the same unit and follow them after a catastrophic rocket attack. While Wylie was not wounded in the blast that decimated his fellow marines, he is returning home to his biggest loss. The love of his life was hurt in an incident at the school where she worked. Cassandra Miller has lost so much in one fell swoop, her unborn child, her vocation and her husband. Wylie appears to be the only person able to reach her, but can she trust that he won’t leave her again like he did so many years ago? Wylie and Cassandra have a complicated past, they were each other’s firsts, but she ended up marrying their mutual best friend after Wylie enlisted without saying goodbye! Their lives are entangled with confusion and secrets and their road to closure was both moving and sweet. https://theretiredreader.com/f/hope-b...
It has been a long time since I have been so touched by a story. Cassandra and Wylie fell in love as teenagers and were subsequently torn apart through a variety of circumstances. Through horrific losses they are brought together and slowly rediscover love in the wake of tragedy. I can not praise Jaime Pope enough for her ability to pump so much life into her stories and get to the heart of what makes us all connected, the ability to love and be loved despite race and socioeconomic differences. What a jewel of a book !!!
Hope Blooms by Jamie Pope is a heartfelt tale. Two lovers separated, are now, reunited. Fate has a way of pulling them together when they least expect it. So much loss, grief, and time has come between them. One of them is brave enough to take the risk of helping the other one. A woman needs saving and a man who needs love. With a little help, a small push, and hope, these two may just get there happiness. The plot was addictive to follow. Romantic, sweet, and engaging. Overall, I recommend this book to readers everywhere.
I got this copy from the publisher. This, is my voluntary review.
I so love Jamie Pope's voice--her clear, unadulterated storytelling, and her realistic, humorous dialogue. It's always such a pleasure to spend time in her worlds--even when the characters are dealing with serious issues like depression and PTSD. I thought both were handled really well in this book, and contrary to the some of the darker elements of the backstory, the book itself was not depressing at all, but hopeful, funny, and sexy, too. Read it. You won't be disappointed!
I don't like sad stories...so I m so happy this didn't turn out to be one....Ms. Pope you explain emotions in such a beautiful way...What a wonderfully hopeful love story about flawed individuals learning from their mistakes and accepting who they are and learning to live their best lives and be their best selves because they gained that knowledge of self...very good read!
I love this book. It's exactly what I needed to read right now. It's not about millionaires and billionaires and CEO's. It's about two people surviving the tragedies life sometimes throws out way. It's about forgiveness and love and forging ahead and new new beginnings and life. I will definitely be following this author from now on. Thank you Ms. Pope for this beautiful story.
This was a good read. Intense, emotional but it was disjointed at times as if the story was rushed. The sex was an overkill for Cass, (the main character) who was grieving in the manner she had/was. Two things I wanted to see explored more in-depth was Nova’s story/relationship with Teo and mental health.
I haven’t figured out why yet, but this book captured me in a way I haven’t felt in a while. It felt completely realistic to me. I wasn’t thinking about the author’s word choice or anything, because I was completely immersed. It’s really a beautiful book.
Side note, I completely adore Teo and his dialogue. It sounded just like a little kid, sweet and blunt and random.
Surprisingly good...just enough mature drama and angst. Felt the love...introduction of secondary characters did not overwhelm the main plot. Will read more from this author!
This is the first book I've read from this author and I truly enjoyed it. I would have liked to have known a few more details about the past especially how Wylie's father and Mr. Miller knew each other. I plan to read more from this author.
