Sacred Light

This is a very interesting and intriguing fantasy and girl that comes of age to take up the job of being a guard of the Light, of a Scroll of Light, and of people.
The narrator is good too, she has a light voice but can make it gruff and powerful. Good job.

This series would of been good and given a 5 star rating if the main character wasn't so worried about losing her virginity.

From start to finish I could not put this book down! Fiona Farrow, the leading female character, immediately captures readers in her supernatural adventures and doesn't let them go until the last page of the book; and after reading the final page, all you want is more! Romance, action, adventure, friendship, and a supernatural twist, this book has something for everyone! Overall 5/5 stars; I'm beyond excited for the sequel!

One star
I found this a shallow read and gave up roughly 25% in. The main character was more worried about her sexual status than the fact her parents had been missing for four years. On top of it, she blamed their employer for not caring enough to find them but it's not like she tried herself. After all, we wouldn't want her to have to acknowledge the supernatural world she has deliberately been ignoring since childhood.
The romance was unmoving, the main character read like a hormonal teen with her first crush on the first pretty guy she gets her claws into, and everything from plot to characters felt surface level.

Let me start this out by saying I have realized that the New Adult genre is one of my least favorite genres. I was not going to let this deter me in my reading, especially since I had grown so fond of this author's work (side note: If you haven't, get The New Agenda series now while you are at it!). Sacred Light blew me out of the water! I would have to say it is easily one of my favorites--if not my favorite--of this genre. The New Adult genre is notorious for having a masculine buff man, a virginal woman (while this book has it, it mocks it in a sense), tons of unnecessary swears, and usually abuse of some kind. I realize this is urban fantasy as well--a genre I love--so it balanced the tropes of each genre really nicely and faced them head on with a unique spin in lieu of giving into every single stereotype that comes along with it.
Sacred Light follows our young protagonist Fiona Farrow. She is recently turned twenty-one and upon this age she is expected to follow her destiny to become a Protector of Light. Fiona is a bit stubborn--like her mother and grandmother before her--and would rather pursue a normal career instead of facing her destiny...in spite of a super sexy guide Ezra coming to her to constantly remind her that she needs to stop playing in the human world and to take her destiny serious.
Through her journey in this book, Fiona finds out things about her best friend that she is completely shocked by, she uncovers a huge story at her investigative journalist job, and also encounters a super sexy contractor, Asher, who she is determined to lose her virginity to! That and the two of them both have a mutual attraction to each other, but there is something greater that is keeping them apart. No spoilers!
As far as the plot, Sacred Light moves along at a great pace and kept my interest from beginning to end. I am already about 30% through book two and can't wait to see what happens to Fiona and friends on their journey. Fiona is a very smart young woman and I am so glad that she didn't fall into the cliche of ignorance is bliss that many female protagonists (and secondary characters) fall into. She stands her own, but isn't afraid to call on friends when she needs the help.
Don't miss out on the Armor of Magic series. I look forward to even more from Simone Pond! Overall, I give the book at 4/5 star rating. I'm really finicky about how a book starts out and if it doesn't just grab me from the first chapter, then it's hard for me give a full 5 star rating. Regardless, great book and highly recommended!

This was a fairly quick read and most of the characters were nicely developed. I feel like Lilith was a bit of a caricature of a succubus. Then there's the near insta-love of Fiona and Asher. Fiona is basically obsessed with being a 21 year old and still a virgin...as if there's actually something wrong with that, even in modern society. Still the story was interesting enough and I will be picking up more of the series as soon as I can.

At this point this has to be on purpose. All these books with stupid as can be heroines that only achieve by accident.What a bumbling dumb girl the main character is. I don’t even know where to begin. How does anyone who knew they were born to a magical destiny be so unprepared and plain stupid? More concerned about getting laid than finding her parents. Mouth before brain every single time. You’re in an office, a demon materializes in and you have to lay low. What do you do? Not do everything but shout “wow there’s a demon here!”. Her guardian is also stupid. How do you not tell your charge that her closest friends are supernatural and her would be boyfriend is a bounty hunter for powerful demons?The irresponsibility. Boyfriends excuse for working for demons was the most trifling nonsense I’ve ever heard but mmmkay. She couldn’t even understand basic concepts of thier world? Where are all these 5 stars coming from? Y’all need to tell these authors the truth.

She's somewhat the reluctant hero, having her own plans for her life, Fiona fights the destiny she's known about but took her parents away. The conflict of choosing between destiny and selfish desires lands her in quite a bit of trouble. Such a fun read and I look forward to the next book!

This will probably sound really weird since I'm a huge lover of paranormal/fantasy/urban fantasy, but I don't usually read books with demons in them. They're scary and really freak me out, but I'm super glad I took the chance on reading Sacred Light. While the demons still freaked the heck out of me, the story, the characters and the myriad of different supernatural creatures were extremely entertaining. It seemed to move at a breakneck pace that had me reading as fast as possible. And now, I'm off to buy Rising Light, book two!

Intriguing
So this was very different as a paranormal read and it was good. There were lots of reveals and surprises to keep you entertained and a light bit of romance that was okay. The romance part didn't grab me and the main character was obsessed with handing over her v card but it's the first book, so I hope for some maturity and growth next.

Really enjoyed feisty Fiona with her currently one-track mind as a 21-year old virgin :) Finding out that there are uncountable supernatural beings out to kill her doesn't faze her at all. However, she is a bit of a rogue and follows her heart rather than her head, but finally realises that she has to embrace her destiny and do what is necessary to try to find her parents and help save the world. Lots of action and a few crazy situations.

Here's a young women who is aware magical beings exist and wants no part of their world. She comes to realize she is ment for bigger things as were both her mother and grandmother. On her 21st birthday everything becomes visible and must face her responsibilities and in the end she decides this is what she wants to do. The 'how' she gets there is fantastic! I know I will enjoy reading these books!

OK, a sale on Amazon introduced me to author Simone Pond, I wish I'd discovered her earlier. Sacred Light, the first book in The Armor of Magic Trilogy, is well-written and introduces you to a character and premise you want to read more about.

The author spent way too much time with the main character talking about losing her virginity, instead of on story/world building. This was a very frustrating read.

So I read the book.

A solid urban fantasy novel that brings something new to the table.
There's quite a bit I don't like about this book - the love interest who has a serial killer vibe, the fact that women are going to war over the Grand Prize of a man (I mean, did Fiona never think that Lilith was stealing her potential-one-night-stands because she needs to EAT to SURVIVE???), the main character's UTTER obsession with her own virginity (newsflash: it's really not the end of the world to be a virgin. Virginity is a made up thing. It means nothing...)
BUT there's also a fair bit I do like, and it has TONNES of potential. I'm interested in seeing more of the relationship between Fiona and Ezra (I hope she picks him instead!) and I like that her best friend is involved in her supernatural world now. The world of demons, fairies etc. is familiar but the Protectors of Light is entirely new and wholly inventive. I love that there's an invisible sparkly ARMOUR. I love that auras are mentioned, angels have glimmery eyes, and there's a whole number of different planes of existence. All of this makes me want to read on with the series, and I probably will continue at some point!

I really enjoyed the idea for the story. I'm just not happy with the main character, Fiona. I did not enjoy her as a character. I did not feel like she grew as a character, nor did she take ownership of her actions. I felt the whole book was about her shirking her responsibilities because she didn't want them to interfere with her "real" life. I found her to be immature and not taking advice or direction well or from those that where there to guide her. Like her guide. If I could have like Fiona more I would have given a higher rating.

I enjoyed reading this novel by Simone Pond. It had some entertaining humor, nicely written chemistry between characters of various forms and a very interesting plot.
I bought the next book in the series today, Rising Light, and plan to begin reading that right after writing this review.
My only issues were the cussing involved and the main character's lack of moral integrity when it comes sex. However, I understand that is personal preference and not an issue for everyone.

tried finishing this but i couldn't, she acts like a hormonal teen when shes supposedly 21, she's more concerned about her virginity than the actual bad stuff thats happening around her such as demons and other supernaturals finally making an appearance to her and her being able to see them. the plot line had a chance at leading to a good story but this reads more like a young adult novel focused more on romance than the main plot.

JAYSUS. I get that this is NA and there are relatively clueless early 20-somethings involved but NO. Just no. This was some sort of stream of consciousness lady-in-heat weirdness that didn't draw me in and seemed to work hard to disassociate with even the realities of the world that was crappily constructed. Noooooope.
