Cage Cooper is a hotshot firefighter in Chicago. When he’s not putting out fires, he’s starting them between willing women’s legs. Busy blazing a trail of broken hearts with satisfied lady parts, Cage is a man on a mission. Believe it or not, Cage is looking for love, though maybe in all the wrong places.
Charli Dixon wants nothing more than to not be noticed. Chicago is the perfect locale to do just that. Back home her tragic life was all anyone talked about and she was tired of the sympathetic looks followed by invasive questions. People lose things every day in a city like Chicago. People find things too, amazing, life changing pieces of their puzzle they never had a clue were missing.
Cage knows the minute he meets Charli that he’s found his missing piece. Now he just has to convince her that what burns between them won’t burn them to ash.
Born and raised in the Midwest, reading and writing have always been Dee's passion. Short stories became long stories that finally, became books. While playing grownup during the day, meaning working a job, Dee wrote her first book. When not reading or writing, which leaves less time than she's proud of, Dee loves spending her time with her four furbabies, her husband and lots of movies nights.
Let me start of with saying Dee Ellis where have you been hiding this whole time? I loved this book, the chemistry between Cage and Charli is there from the start and the way we're brought into both of their minds makes it all the better. Who doesn't enjoy a sexy as all *** fireman and then add in all that is Cage and HELLO! The fact that Charli is a woman with curves and is going after what she wants for herself makes me fall for her as well. Together these two are just unstoppable. Cannot wait to see what's next from our sweet Dee Ellis.
**Second read through with the edited and revised update**
Reading Cage and Charli’s story had me falling harder and faster for this man then before. I was shocked to hear that this author sliced out a good chuck here and there from their story but it continues to flow seamlessly and we still have a passionate, romantic story told. I adore the Cooper family and how they open their hearts to those around them. The blend of both characters POV is wonderful because you’re able to feel the connection between these two even deeper. As Charlie shares her past I’m brought to tears but seeing the woman she has become and what she wants for herself in life is something to be proud of. If you haven’t clicked their story yet you’re missing out. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
OK...I'm gonna try this review for like the third or fourth time now in the past several months! It keeps disappearing on here and Amazon, which makes me mad because I know how much reviews help authors! Ugh! But now for the book review...
Let It Burn is this author's debut novel and I had the extreme pleasure of being a beta reader for her. I absolutely LOVE this story and the characters!!!
Cage Cooper is an intense, sexy, and amazing firefighter and all around great guy who knows what he wants and isn't going to stop trying to get it either. He knows immediately that Charli is the one when he meets her for the first time, but he has a sketchy reputation for being the typical guy with a different 'badge bunny' anytime he wants to and that doesn't help his case to win her over whatsoever.
Charli Dixon is a gorgeous, sweet, sexy girl with curves and she knows how to own them too! (I loved that part...not everyone is a size zero lol) She's a huge book lover and when she finally can't take living in her small hometown anymore after everything that happens, she decides to move to Chicago. Landing an amazing place to live and her dream job, she's happier than ever...then she meets Cage for the first time and the chemistry is off the charts. But she's not ready for another relationship and just wants to be free and enjoy life finally.
I don't wanna give away too much of the book so I'm going to end by summing it up: This book is sweet, romantic, extremely hot and sexy with major chemistry, has some humor mixed in perfectly, and it's definitely an emotional read!! I was wrapped up in this story from beginning to end; giggling, face fanning, crying, and everything in between! Basically, it had me all wrapped up in the feels!! Amazing debut novel and definite must read!! :)
4.5 Stars... Updated review: I just read the updated, newly edited version on this book. The author has reduced page count by approximately 70 pages. I enjoyed rereading an revisiting the men of ladder 71. This is the first book in the Burn series. With the new edits, I found the book to flow better. In addition, I got to fall in love with Cage Cooper all over again. This book is still angsty and intense in a sexual manner. The intimate scenes are some of the hottest I've ever read. And Cage Cooper is at the top of my list for possessive, intense, dirty talking over-the-top hero. Each book in the Burn series is just as hot and sexy. I recommend this series as a great binge read. Since I just finished Let It Burn, I'll be rereading the rest.
3.75 Stars! "Let It Burn" by author Dee Ellis
I believe this was the debut novel for Dee Ellis. For a first novel I thought is was very good. The pace of the first 60% of the novel was slow however the build of sexual tension was strong and intense. The chemistry between Cage and Charli was crazy hot! The remaining 40% of the book had a steady pace and I was really into their relationship by that point. I do wish our H/h acted on their burning hot attraction a lot sooner.
Cage Cooper is a Chicago firefighter. He is the perfect male. Tall, gorgeous, independent, sexy and intense. I loved his romantic side! Cage knew the perfect words to say in any circumstance. Yes he was OTT but in an adorable way. Another strong characteristic he had was his patience. Lucky for Charli that he had an unlimited supply of it because she was a mess. Charli was slow to the take however, Cage knew the first moment he locked eyes on her, she was "it" for him.
Charli Dixon just moved to Chicago to make a new life for herself. Back home in Iowa she was drowning in responsibility, regret and the cliche of "small town" interference. She wanted to start over in a new place where no one knew anything about her. She had good reasons for wanting this change in her life. I understood where her fears and wariness stemmed from and because of that I was able to justify some of her responses and actions. Unfortunately what really frustrated me was her frequent attitude of hot and cold with Cage. This attitude continued through almost the entire book. I am going to admit this. I did not like her at all! Not even in the end. It was a very good thing I loved Cage and was invested in his HEA because this novel was nearly 500 pages.
This novel has an huge amount of inner monologue. I wish there was more dialogue and less being in their heads. This novel is written in both H/h POVs, a trait I prefer and is usually a strong factor in book selection for me. My comment about the dual POV in this novel is that I would have preferred each POV continued into a new chapter rather then reading the same scenes in different POVs. It just makes the novel longer. So because of the scene repetition and some monologue repetition, I think this novel could have been a lot shorter with the same result.
After reading this novel I am of the opinion that Dee Ellis put a lot of effort into her writing. Description, prose, and scene-setup are just part of her writing talents. Her sex scenes are realistic, intimate and powerful. Cage was an intense lover and Charli was very receptive to his touch and even his seductive words. So was I... :) These two had such strong chemistry that their instant attraction to each other was believable. In addition to Cage and Charli’s interactions, Dee Ellis set up her scenes so that I could imagine I was there.
Now let me add there is quite a bit of angst and anxiety. I felt bad for Cage and how Charli treated him often resulting in his insecurity and fear of losing her. Charli was a runner. Cage went through rings of fire to be with her. Their HEA was not an easy one to achieve but when they finally got there I was thrilled. I hope Charli is counting her lucky stars that Cage was so patient and understanding with her. I didn't like that he blamed himself for everything that went wrong between them. In my eyes the blame was mostly hers. My opinion? She didn't deserve him.
Dee Ellis added a bunch of secondary characters, most of whom I liked. Both there families were loyal and loving and a great addition to the story. That said, I can't wait to read Finn and Gigi's story next.
I was one of the lucky ones who got to read debut author Dee Ellis book Let It Burn! It was so exciting being selected to read an author's debut book, It was my first time doing so, basically she popped my debut author cherry lol
When I read the book synopsis I was hooked sexy fireman hello Cage, Cooper is my kind of man! he's a hot fireman setting fires or should I say putting them out all over town (wink wink) Sadly, as much as Cage enjoys his naughty hi-jinx he wants more than one night stands. He's looking for the one, that one!
Enter Charli Dixon small town girl wanting to take on the world && leave behind all the heartache, she wants to start fresh, to blend into a background of the huge downtown city. Little did she know Chicago had other plans for her.
Charli & Cage's lives are about to collide && neither one of them see it coming they both may be such different ppl but somewhat there the same.
What I really loved about this book was the family dynamic on Cage's side, they were so close warm && caring! I so connected with Cage & his little sister's relationship It reminded me of me && my little brothers relationship which was refreshing, usually in the books family fade into the background or are always arguing so this was a breath of fresh air.
My Final Thoughts:
This is Dee Ellis first book && I really enjoyed it, I look forward to reading more of her work && of Cage Cooper.
Great debut!!! My only comment is that the sexy time started further into the book than I wanted it to! But good tension. A lot of internal monologue, but I enjoyed getting into their heads. I'm excited for Finn's story next! (I'm voting for him to slut it up early on though!)
Seriously loved this book! It was epic, but so worth it. The characters were well developed, set up for a great series. Can't wait to read Finn! Awesome job Dee!
This was a great debut novel by Dee Ellis! Who doesn't love hot fire fighters and a good smutty read?? I give it 3.5 stars which I rounded to 4 stars, because maths.
Cage is super hot, alpha to the max, fireman. Charli is a small town girl figuring out life and love in a new big city. Each of them has had a bit of a past they would like to forget, each for their own reasons. Charli has been keeping secrets that are weighing heavy on her that are not her own. Cage has been perpetuating a lifestyle that he doesn't actually enjoy. Can these two put their pasts behind them to have a future together? Just because their attraction fuels plenty of fire between them can they turn it into more, something real.
I personally enjoyed the heart of this story and even though it was pretty smutty it still had plenty of sweet moments between Charli and Cage. Like some of the things Cage did to win Charli over were romantic. The fact that they were able to get past some issues that arose during the story that stemmed from their past also made me enjoy this story. Some of the issues were a bit OTT, but hell seeing this couple be able to work past outsiders trying to bring down their relationship was endearing!
The reason I took away a half star was because this story was a definite case of instalove. There's nothing really wrong with instalove, it just isn't for me! It didn't really take away from the story, I'd just be lying if I said I didn't roll my eyes at it. I always do though, nothing to do with the authors writing, just the trope!
I took away another star because at some points in the story it felt very repetitive and a bit long-winded. Some people enjoy having both POV in a story, it just didn't work for me in this instance. It felt like reading Fifty Shades of Grey and Grey all mushed together. Charli's POV was great and so was Cage's, but I only needed one or the other.
All in all this was a great read, and I'm super excited to see what happens next with Finn and Gigi! She's my kind of girl ;)
"I am your future, Sugar. Just like you're mine. This is going to light us up and burn us to the ground, Charli."
Oh yeah Cage definitely swept me off my feet. He's a hot sexy firefighter and he's on a mission to find The One, his soul mate, his forever. Under his big rough muscles he's a sweet romantic guy. And I love him. As for Charli...ughhh she's not fav girl, I know she's been hurt and I understand her that she built her walls to protect herself, but it feels like she takes Cage for granted. She expected Cage to always chase her. Yeah I don't like her because she kinda hurt Cage, although Cage isn't a saint, and he kinda hurt her too even though he didn't mean it and he did it to protect her.
This is my first experience with Dee Ellis and it's her debut novel, and knowing this is about a firefighter, I was so exited. This is a book about a firefighter looking for his forever and a girl who always running from her ghosts. This book is kinda slow at first, but I love how the author building the tensions between the main characters, and when they're finally came to their senses BAM, it got me hot and squirming on my seat. There's a lot of repetitions in this book, although it's a bit bothering me I really enjoying it. It's a great Debut novel from Dee Ellis, definitely going to read her next books ;)
If you love romance story with a hot firefighter in it, you have to try this one.
Cage is a firefighter and has been searching for a woman that is his ONE. However all he ends up with are badge bunnies. Charli came to Chicago for a fresh start and to find somewhere she felt she belonged. When she got the job at the library and then a place to stay it seemed like everything was finally going her way. Yet when she met Cage she tries to hide about her feelings from him. Running away from him every chance she gets. Cage knows that Charli is the one for him so he isn't about to let her go. Will he be able to break down all the walls she's built up around her heart?
This is an amazing story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received an advanced readers copy of Let It Burn in exchange for my honest review.
I was honored to be a beta reader for this book, the debut novel from Dee Ellis.
This story is a refreshing one. Its a boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, girl wishes she can start a new life in a new city. We meet super hot firefighter Cage Cooper who has been having a hard time figuring out how he's going to find 'the one'. He has always waned a love like his mother and father. Charli is new to Chicago. She left a horrible life situation back home, and just wants a fresh start. Charli gets a dream job working at the public library. Her boss fastly becomes a great friend, who helps her find a small cottage she can rent close to the library. She is excited about this new adventure. She's not looking for anything romantically. But isn't that when things often happen? Chrlie in many ways fights the attraction she has towards Cage Cooper, but he doesn't give up. When he meets Charlie through the mentor program at the library he knows she's 'The One'.
This story is a huge novel, so much longer than others like it, which I loved because you get to spend more than a minute reading it.
The chemistry Dee gives the characters is simply amazing! I love the writing and can't wait to read book two!
This book is as great as all of our favorite, and popular authors out there today. Dee Ellis is going to become an amazing author that your going to add to you must read list!
Let It Burn holds true to its title because reading this, YOU ARE GOING TO BURN UP!
Debut author, Dee Ellis, delivers a hot, sexy romance that will have your thighs clenching and your heart pumping a mile per minute. Although the storyline is fast paced, it doesn't take away from the fact that it is well thought out, consistent, and will have you wondering what happens next. Cage and Charli's whirlwind romance is beautifully developed and their transformation from strangers to lovers will leave you breathless. At times I did find some sections and certain aspects to be a bit repetitive, and while that can often become frustrating, it wasn't a big enough issue for me not to finish reading. From sweet to über steamy, Let It Burn offers a little something for everyone. Definitely a wonderful debut novel and I'm looking forward to Book 2.
Re-release This book is still an amazing 5 stars! Dee has done some major editing and reduced the book by about 70 pages but you don't feel like you are losing anything. There is still loads of action and Cage is still one sexy firefighter. the flow of this book has improved 10 fold and it has made me truly happy to see how much the author has grown and to be able to go back and grow you characters in this way was just beautiful! original review: Cage Cooper and Charlie Dixon are absolutely my favourite couple of the year. Cage is confident, cocky and a serious hottie who will make you need a change of knickers. Charlie is beautiful, smart and needs a lot of lovin' but makes woman proud. This book is brimming with emotion that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I received this book early for review and let me tell you, this is a fantastic debut novel! I laughed, cried and swooned hard! Cage is the kind of guy every girl needs in their life! And Charli was a lovely heroine, who I adored! Together they were combustible and their story will leave you on fire! I can't say enough great things about this book! I can't wait to read more from Dee Ellis!
Another great read, with lots of chemistry and hotness. This is a well written story and hooked me from the start. This is a quick hot read, with a interesting plot and fantastic characters, great emotion and Loads of steam!

Let me start off by saying this book was AMAZEBALLS. This was my first Dee Ellis book as well as her debut novel.
This book had been on my tbr for like ever. Until I finally decided to get it over with. And this always happens. Where I leave a book and once I read it, I am like, "Why didn't I read this soon?". Anyways this book kind of intimidated me at first of how long it was but I stuck through it.
Cage Cooper. That man. Here is a list of why to love him.: -Tall -Romantic -Cat lover -Reads books -Firefighter -Sexy a'f -Sweet -Possessive and many more..... Cage Cooper has a reputation he's not proud of nor wants. All he asks for is to find the one. So, when he hears about the new librarian everyone is talking about he has to meet her. And when he does, he instantly decides she is the one. And nothing or anyone will stop him from making her his. Not even herself.
Charli Dixon is a runner. After becoming a widow, her mother's death, military brothers across the sea, and her town using her for gossip she is over it. She decides to move to Chicago to start new. what she didn't expect was to fall for the sexy fireman.
CONS: Like I said this book was a bit slow in the beginning up until around 25%. They also had dual pov's which I prefer because you get to be in both characters minds, but both their pov's were also a bit repetitive not that it was that bad but I think is what made the book a bit longer. The only issue was that there wasn't much dialogue between them but it was alright. PROS: Other than just minor things this book was amazing. It was totally unique and something different than I ever read. I loved how in actuality Charli was strong. Having left everything she knew behind to find herself and create a new life was admiring. She was also confident with herself and sassy a'f. && can we just talk about Cage Cooper. He was such a romantic && cat lover. The book with the notes, the tattoos (read and you'll know what I'm talking about), and the way that he wouldn't ever give up. The sex scenes felt very realistic and was filled with so much chemistry between Cage and Charli. I loved both of their families and how close they all were. The secondary characters were also my favorite part of the book (FINN COOPER;) ). There were times where it was funny, sad, panty-melting hot (literally), and a bit of angst . There were so many great moments in this book my list would probably be too long.
Advice: JUST READ IT.
For a first book Dee Ellis killed it. I will definitely be reading the second book because Finn Cooper. Enough said.
4.5⭐️'s Great debut. The first half was very detailed written in which you get to experience every meeting and exchange between Cage and Charli from both POV's, which was pushing it a little for me. The second half somehow read faster. Loved the instant connection between them, also the hesitation, doubts, fear and dealing with the past in order to move on. So much sharing between Cage and Charli and they still held back. Definitely enjoyed the book and letter exchanges between them and of course Gigi's rating system!! Not to mention the heat between the sheets and everywhere else.
Great debut novel! I loved the process of character development. At times, I found the story overly descriptive and a bit long winded. This, however doesn't take away from the beautiful heartfelt story. Charli had experienced so much loss in her life that when she runs away to Chicago, the last person she expects to meet is sex-on-a-stick Cage. He quickly figures out how she protects herself and sets of to break those barriers because he believes she's worth it. His POV throughout the book was my favorite! This story is about second chances and the hope that life just can't be that bad.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book, I must say at first It was a little slow and I wasn't exactly happy with Charli always wanting to "run away" lol, but let me tell you after reading a few chapters and really understanding her story I was sucked in! I adored Cage and loved how he fought for her and who doesn't love a alpha male with "pretty words" !! I won't spoil too much but just to say I was in awe with a few parts in this story and was a little speechless with a certain tattoo
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I gave this book four stars only because the first half of the book felt a little slow paced, however in saying that the chemistry that the author created between Charli and Cage was amazing, something you felt right deep inside. Their chemistry and sexual attraction almost has your Kindle sizzling from the heat. Even though the first half of the book is slow paced it is still a book you can't put down you need to know will Charli run and will Cage do as he promised and always chase after her. Should you read this book, in the words of Charli and Cage Abso - fkng -lutely.
Cage Cooper is a sexy alpha fireman. He's caring and amazing! I loved how he didn't give up when it came to Charli!
Charli Dixon is strong but guarded because of her past. She wants to run but Cage doesn't let her! I loved watching her grow and make the best decisions for her! I actually loved her!
I loved their steamy relationship and how much they loved each other!
Absolutely loved this book!!! It is the perfect combination of lust and love. The chemistry between Cage and Charli was magical. I look forward to reading more from Author Dee Ellis!!
Sometimes you don't even know that you are waiting for that great love until it happens upon you. Cage & Charli's love was intense and so hot and steamy.... wowsas
Let it Burn is combustable! Love story with the heat of an inferno! This debut novel grabs you by the heart (and other places down south) with an immediately likeable group of characters who could easily be part of your life & family. Cage Cooper and his "magic mouth" will make you weak at the knees! When he's not demanding the filthiest most erotic things in your ear (well, Charli's...but you get my point) he's speaking words that are sweeter than candy. Strong & sure about what he wants when he finds it, he goes after it with a fierceness that is pure alpha & at times makes him so singularly focused, he can get in his own way. Charli Dixon is sweet, sexy, sassy & her strength makes you cheer for her to find her ideal "happy". Finally taking the opportunity to escape the shackles of her past, finding Cage Cooper is the last thing she was expecting or even wanted. Funny thing though, in finding Cage, she really started to find herself and maybe for the first time in her life, who she's going to be, will be made up of her choice. Let it Burn is a great book & while there are times I wanted to shake the living s*** outta both the leads, I couldn't help but fall in love with them and their hot-as-fire story. Can't wait for the next book in the series "Burn it Down". I love Gigi coz that girl is all kinds of badass & she's gonna keep me (& Finn) enthralled.
4.5 Stars... Updated review: I just read the updated, newly edited version on this book. The author has reduced page count by approximately 70 pages. Since I just finished Let It Burn, I'll be rereading the rest.
OMG what a hot book!!!! I loved getting to know the characters, getting to know what they were thinking in the book. I loved how they got to know each other and how the main character was a Liberian. She did a great program for kids and that is how she found him. You never know how true love will happen and that is what you will find in this book. If you want a HOT read then this is the book for you to read. Get job and loved how the author let you get to know the characters!!!!
Cage Cooper and Charlie Dixon are absolutely my favourite couple of the year. Cage is confident, cocky and a serious hottie who will make you need a change of knickers. Charlie is beautiful, smart and needs a lot of lovin' but makes woman proud. This book is brimming with emotion that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
