The Fall of Man: System Crash is the second book in The Fall of Man series and throws readers into a rollercoaster ride of science fiction, mystery, subterfuge, and moral philosophy that explores the question: is mankind beyond redemption?
Join a new cast of characters, reunite with the cast from Days of Judgment, and discover the true intentions behind Project Genesis.
It’s no secret that sequels are hard. They present a unique challenge: the author must satisfy the audience of the original while moving the story either forward or in a new direction. System Crash does both. As I did with Days of Judgment, I won’t be revealing much or the plot. A computer expert finds a way into the most protected databases in the world and steals a lot of classified information. The kind of information the powers-that-be don’t want anyone to know. Things go downhill from there. In an amusing and thought-provoking way, of course. Some characters from book one do make a return, but this one is focused on an all-new cast, and they are all wonderfully memorable. Each character serves a purpose to the plot, and nothing is wasted. The story might be very, very dark, but it is presented in a way that isn’t distracting or oppressive. I’ve never found myself needing a break from a Mclean book. I’m not going to lie. Days of Judgment set the bar high, and while System Crash didn’t top it, it most certainly matched it. Can’t wait to see what A Fool’s Requiem has in store!
Very good book. Moved along a bit easier than the first one and was just as entertaining. Started the third book in the series today. So excited to see how this journey ends.
System Crash is a worthy follow up to a tremendously powerful and riveting book one, Judgment Day. System Crash is intriguing, beguiling, suspenseful, and rich in character development, plot consistency and suspense! Sometimes book two's are weak, and a mere attempt to create a trilogy, but not McLean's book two! This is a necessary and vital part of the story. The hard science fiction element is extremely interesting, and from my reading physics, feasible. Although McLean knows WAY more than me! The science presents things we have today (whether we know it or not!), or are aspiring to. What a fabulous continuation. I am mystified by the two main characters on which the System Crash depends... albeit indirectly. This novel is multi faceted in not only the science but in looking deeply into the character on mankind. Well, book three is beckoning... read and enjoy! You will be glad you did! (But plan on staying up late cuz you won't be able to put the book down!).
I was so captivated by the first book that I had to buy this, and the third. The story runs right along. It is well-written and thought-provoking. Highly recommended!
After reading the first book, I immediately purchased the 2nd and 3rd books! Now, after having finished book #2, I am so invested in the story that I cannot wait to get home and begin book #3! This 2nd book, to me, seems to mirror our current times exactly! I am fascinated with physics and the quantum world so, who knows, maybe this is the true story of man! Rob Mclean far exceeded my expectations with this 2nd book in the series. As I get ready to start the 3rd and final book, I have mixed feelings..........I can't wait to see what happens next but I do not want the story to end. Superb writing, just exceptional!!
I read sequels for about half of the books that have them. But I usually am done after Book 2. This series is an exception. I'm encouraging my wife to read these but have to be so careful to not give anything away. Blame Eve? ☺
