For beginning and novice players who want to play and win at Texas hold'em'95% of the card-playing market'this is the perfect antidote. The book is designed for those players who want to learn 'right now' and enjoy instant success at the tables. Fifty quick sections focus on key winning concepts, making learning both easy and fast.
This book was a fun read. I don't know if much of the advice works anymore, since I read the edition published back in 2007, but it was well written and well edited. This is a welcome change from most poker books. This book seemed to be like a companion to most poker books that include the basics. It shouldn't be the only poker book you read if you're trying to learn how the game works, but I'd recommend it anyway!
I think this book is a decent read for anyone truly new to the game of poker and looking to learn some basic fundamentals. However, I would say any experienced player can pass on this one as you should already be familiar with many of the concepts and ideas within. Great for beginners, but if you're already a winning player then move on to something more advanced!
A worthwhile read - the occasional Negreanu observation such as increasing raise sizes to 5-7x at tables with multiple limpers can lead to better results for beginners who struggle to reconcile modern tournament advice about min sized raises and small bets with their own small stakes poker experience.
It's 166 pages that could've been 100 pages if not for the large type and all the wasted space. And the content is really only enough to fill maybe two or three articles in a poker magazine.
Should be called Hold'em Wisdom For Complete Beginners Who Haven't Read Any Other Poker Books At All.
A nice book for beginners looking for a few basic tips on playing with the big guns. Covers a range of behaviors that will create a good foundation for a future of solid play at the tables or a small home game.
It’s fine. Some decent pieces of advice but also unclear what this book is trying to do or who it is really for. Too basic to help more seasoned players and not comprehensive enough to get someone started.
I was looking for a book about Daniel Negreano's 'Small Ball' game, but I didn't find one. Instead I found this book of tips. After reading the book, I realize it's a lot more than '50 powerful tips;' it is a very good book on how to play Texas Hold 'Em poker. It was a good book that was very easy to read and understand. I highly recommend it for any beginning poker player who already knows the basics of how to play and just wants to learn strategy. Negreano doesn't touch on the rules of the game how to play at all, but he gives a lot of great advice on how to win.
As a player for many years, I am still always looking for ways to improve my game and I did find quite a few ideas in this book that will help me. I recommend it to any poker player at any level.
Its brevity doesn't allow for any in-depth treatment of the tips it contains, but these are excellent refresher snippets for hold'em poker players, et al. As with most poker books, there are nuggets of really helpful information that can act as beneficial tools in the arsenal of a novice, or the reinforcement of good strategy for those who've heard it all before.
50 short two-page essays about Texas Hold 'Em strategy. If you love poker and are looking for another book to read to improve your game, you will find something here to work with. I am a huge fan of Phil Gordon's Little Green Book and the follow-ups to that for amateur players, but if you are looking for more after that, this is some good information and a very easy read.
Easy to read book from a master poker player. I think that it must be a compilations of short essays he wrote for some forum as each chapter is brief and covers a different topic. I pulled a few gems from it. Short and worth the couple of bucks I paid for it used.
This book acted like a blurb/conversational chat for his Masterclass. While the "rules of thumb" given here are useful - they're probably reserved for the beginners. Nevertheless Daniel's approach to poker is certainly refreshing.
A great book from the best man in business, and certainly the best a beginner could ask for! Applied his strategies in online tournaments and yup they did work. Beginning from how to play with the tight players to bullying the bully and how to keep the good players out of the pot, this book has a ton of things to offer to the beginners. A must read for every beginner!
This was a nice introductory book into Hold'em for people who want a little more insight into the strategy of the game, without being overwhelmed by scenarios you aren't likely to recall. It teaches core concepts like pot odds that will help every level of player. I'd recommend this book as a starter before delving into more serious books like Super System.
Decent one day read. Daniel has the gift of telling you how to play without actually saying anything about the way he plays the game. I think he was saving a lot for his "Magnum Opus" which I have yet to read. Its on the list though! Hopefully it will be better and just as fast a read!
Super nice and interesting. Read it in poker mentor (book gathering "holdem wisdom" and "more holdem wisdom"). I assume that it is the 1st part, of the book, wich i largely preferred to the second part. To be read by all poker players!!
I loved this book! It got directly to the point and didn't waste my time. And the advice was all useful and well explained. Just what I was looking for. The target audience is novice players, and for that audience I think this book is excellent.
