I will freely admit that this is one of the coolest books I have seen in a long time. While it seems to have a significant focus on homesteading, many of the projects in this book are appropriate for all types of homeowners or gardeners. The projects in this book range from making gardening boxes to making solar heating units, making you truly feel like the sky is the limit with your own home when it comes to self-sufficiency. What I love the most about the book are the detailed instructions and pictures that walk you through each step of the project while also being very user-friendly. Honestly, this book is the perfect gift for any new homeowners or someone considering doing more with their property.

This books is wonderful! It's full of very useful information to move yourself toward, "Self-Sufficiency." The projects are quite doable and well thought out. If the project(s) you choose is something you build out of wood, all the directions are includes, along with drawings, measurements, etc., everything needed to learn how to do it are in this book! It covers so many areas and has so many ideas! We enjoyed going through the book, cover-to-cover, to decide which projects we would like to use! It's a book that will always be valuable to have. It's certainly a book you will never be "finished" with, either!

So many projects we have been thinking about doing, laid out in simple and clear ways. Even if they are 100% what we were thinking it's a fantastic starting point. A few things I never thought about doing like a solar oven, brooding box for chickens etc. Theres even a how to on assembling a prebuolt metal shed. The hoop house had some great ideas. Love the chicken coop. The solar dehydrator, the cold room for the basement! Got this from the library but definitely ordering in a copy to have on hand. Great book!

This is just a fantastic book for anyone that lives in the country or on a little piece of land. Not the book for you if you live in an apartment as very few of the projects are small in size (though you could use the weaving loom, wine rack, or maybe even the solar cooker on a balcony). I could tell after the first flip-through after I got this from the library (sight unseen) that this was a book to purchase rather than just check out. It is extremely well-written, well-illustrated, and gives great tips. I was especially excited to see a plan for a bee hive. It's ridiculous how hard it is to find this on-line! There are six sections:
Chickens and & Other Creatures, Nourishing Your Garden, Garden Projects, Food Preservation & Preservation, Homestead Amenities, and Outbuildings & Fences.
Projects include a firewood shelter, root cellar, fences, greenhouse, chicken coop, and compost bins. Many of these projects are found in other books, but the parts lists are meticulous. There are several pictures of each project that show the construction to help you if you have problems along the way. There is a list of resources at the back, but there are only five entries on it, so probably won't be partcuarly useful. I highly recommend this highly informational and useful book.
