As a resident of the Big Island of Hawaii, I can second the message of this book. I have often felt that Kauai was a "tourist island" and missed the authenticity of the real Hawaii. However. Jason Blake has learned and appreciated many of the same lessons as I. His book is short, sweet and honest. I recommend it to visitors and resident alike. ke

As a resident of the Big Island of Hawaii, I have often thought of
Kauai as a tourist island. Jason Blake has caught the message of the islands and had lessons and experts close to my own. The book is short, sweet and honest.

A bunch of ramblings, musings, ideologies, philosophies written like a self-help guide. The only parts that were of any entertainment were the brief descriptions of the history and culture of Hawaii. For such a short book, it was so long-winded. Skimmed through most of the pointless rambling. What I learned from this book is that you didn't need to read it but be practical and just use common sense!

10 Things I Learned living on an island by jason Blake
Enjoyed this story for many reasons. It took me to a location I've yet to visit and really gave me a great detailed description of the area, the people and what to expect as a tourist and as an owner of a part of this paradise.
Talks about some of the downfalls and a lot of cool free things to do. love hiking and discovering new things all the time and not too far from the other islands of Hawaii.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun getting to know little things about not only living on an island, but also living on Kauai and the Hawaiian culture. I loved getting to know Jason a little more; and his story about how he and Philip ended up in Hawaii.

The author's writing makes for easy reading of this autobiography of a Hawaiian islander (who moved there from the mainland). I found the insights and anecdotes of island living very interesting and entertaining. Definitely a book to read if you have a couple of 'me' hours available.

Great little book on life.

Yes this tells you things you can learn by living on an island, but too it is a good commentary on how to live a happy and successful life. Short but sweet, a good read.

I was impressed by this book. Jason Blake enumerates and expounds on the lessons he learned without sounding preachy or condescending. He has a friendly, open style that is easy to read and not at all pretentious. The reader can tell that he loves the island he lives on, warts and all.

I've always been fascinated by the beauty of Hawaii so I really looked forward to reading this book and was not disappointed! It was so descriptive that I felt like I was right there on the island. I think it's a must read if you are thinking of moving to the islands as it discusses the changes in living on the main land compared to a lifestyle on the island.
