Awesome. This has to be the most supernatural of the whole series. Now we come full circle acknowledge to the first couple and the pool. But it their daughter/stepdaughter that is the main focus. A terrific read with plenty of action and best of all with all the explanations. The characters have gotten even better and hopefully the author will have follow up stories to go with ad show the adventures of the children. She is now a teenager and although a bit of a loner has developed some friendships. However the pull to go to the pond is getting stronger. Okay she avoids it when David and Asher are about as all they are interested in is hurting others. But the young boy that comes through is a friend. Sort of like the friendship she has with one of her classmates (Samp). When things start getting stranger he accompanies her to the pool and they are tasked with getting a box with an opal. It has been lost but needs to be found as the ghosts of Davis and Asher are growing in power and malevolence. Asher had already taken over the body of her stepmother and with her being so advanced in her pregnancy this was frightening. However the opal box is actually a person. One that helps them look into Scamp's ancestral roots. As more and more ghost appear and grow in strength the need to fight back becomes more important. Taking the fight to the pool! Will they be strong enough? What will it cost them?
Some new characters are here, but most importantly our favorite little girl is back! Juniper is a tenacious little young lady who belongs to Max! Max and Lila are finally together and Juniper finally has the mother figure she’s always dreamed of. But, nothing is truly ever as it seems in Aurora. Juniper was born with uncanny abilities to find missing people, items, or really just anything that can’t be found. It seems that Junipers special trick might actually be on the fritz. A lot of interesting things are happening in Aurora including a portal to the dead opening. Just when you think you could predict the way this last installment turns out, you’ll be surprised at every turn. I feel a little like I forced myself to get through these two books, I’m still glad I read them. The last book was enjoyable the way the first book was. If I had to rate all three books the first one was still the most enjoyable to read and I like the last one. The second story just didn’t really do it for me. If you’re big into cozy mysteries this is a nice series to dig into.
I enjoyed this third novel in “The Obituary Society” trilogy. However, I didn’t like it as much as I did the first two books. Perhaps because the plot revolved around Juniper and her friend Levi, both of whom are children. I’m not a reader of young adult fiction. At times, I found the book a little boring and trite. But at the end, the author pulled together the plot into a cohesive whole. Thus, I gave this novel four stars.
I really enjoyed this book. It was more paranormal than mystery which is different for me but the author did a great job of keeping me interested. There were plenty of interesting twists I did not see coming. I really like the way the author brings the characters from the first book into these other books but allows the newer characters to be the main characters. Jessica Randall is a very good story teller. I would recommend this book.
The Obituary Society's Last Stand, is the last book in the Obituary Series. This book majorly revolves around a 16-year-old girl and how she brings all of the Obituary Society together once again to fight against the dark forces. The book also has teenage love going on in the sidelines with the main story. The paranormal activities are in the forefront, adding to that is some gypsy love and various hidden gifts of other people that come into the scene. I think this is a perfect ending to this beautiful series.
I couldn't put this book down!! The storyline caught me from the start. Such fascinating characters!! I cried during the last several chapters. I got so into the story that I forgot where I was... Loved it!!
I started this series because of the beautiful book covers and stayed because I loved the stories. I kind of hope it doesn't end at 3 since I'd rather like to see more of Juniper, Scamp, and Opal and of course the whole bunch.
This was my favorite out of the three books, even though it made me cry like a baby at the end. Also since I live in Nebraska, I kind of want to go to Auburn and see if any spookables are about.
Junie and Levi are strong characters. The ladies of the club are snappy as always. Loved Bo's character New and old characters that blend into a story that I loved
I have loved this Trilogy. The latest installment, book 3, definitely did not disappoint. Told from the viewpoint of Juniper, the young girl in books one and two, now aged 16, and much more involved in the story plot. This book is filled with hometown charm, the love of family and good friends, and magic.
They all come together to fight a common enemy, in such a wonderful heartwarming way, with a little bit of sadess thrown in.
I really enjoyed this book, and did not want it to end. I'm hoping that this author will revisit this town, and it's wonderfully descriptive characters. I'm going to miss my visits here. I totally recommend this book!
Enjoyed this book very much ! It is about family and growing up in a small town and being yourself no matter what. I will recommend this book to every body. Enjoy !
When reading one of Charlaine Harris's mystery series earlier last year, my eyes fell on a perfect description for what this type of story is... a "southern domestic cozy" mixed with magical realism. It makes me feel like I immediately have to move to a small town and always have baked goods and sweet tea ready for any surprise guests.
This is the third book in the Obituary Society series and I just have to say that I really really love Jessica Randall's writing. She is the most underrated author that I know of. Her books have such a quiet and quaint magic to them. The Obituary Society's last stand (The Obituary Society-I love it!) follows Juniper (love the name) who we first met in the first book in the series. In the other books there was a quiet ghost or two but all of a sudden there are so many people back from the dead trying to pick up where they were when they died. And the trouble seems to be coming from the pond behind Juniper's house. Will the town be able to pull together to save itself? SO GOOD! This is one of my favorite trilogies.
A book about finding ones skills and power, self-acceptance, strength in working with others, regret and loss, all wrapped in a love story with frightening ghosts that need to be put to rest.
These books are kind of weird. They end up coming together in the end, but the supernatural element takes some getting used to. Because I only read these when they're offered for free on Amazon, I find myself scrambling to remember characters and what their "quirks" and back stories are. There were a few editing issues in the Kindle version (extra or wrong words, etc.), but they didn't make for difficult reading.
I could not put this series down. The characters were like family, or friends. The descriptions made for a visual feast. Each town festival, I was there, immersed in the activity. LOVED IT!!!
