Amelia Honey, cutter and suit designer at an exclusive London Savile Row tailor, is happy with her professional life, but her love life is barren and cold. When she is asked to stand in for her boss’s private appointment with the mysterious Byron De Brek, she couldn’t be more excited—or nervous. Byron is the perfect example of a dapper butch, and someone who fuels Amelia’s darkest fantasies. Will she follow Byron’s lead and explore those darker needs, or will she run away from what her heart and her body truly hunger for?

To be honest I didn’t have any plans to read this short. It just didn’t catch my attention. However, I’m about to read Frame’s new book Hunger for You. Hunger is with the same main characters. Dapper is a short prequel to that book. I am so anal about reading books in order that I just had to get this.
I thought this short was okay. It is steamy but it didn’t really grab me like I hoped. I’m such a character driven reader that shorts sometimes don’t work for me. Frame, developed the story as much as she could, it just really wasn’t enough for me.
One thing I was confused about, I felt almost like the story was taking place in the 60’s, but then the characters mentioned the internet, so I was really off. Both characters had that old fashioned feel.
This short didn’t really work for my personal preferences, but I can absolutely see others liking this. If you are looking to read about a little hot, steamy fun, this might be for you. I’m hoping with a full length book in Hunger, I will connect more to these characters.
Amelia Honey is a successful tailor at an exclusive shop in London but her love life is nonexistent... until she spies dapper butch Byron De Brek in the shop. Luckily for her, Byron begins to take a personal interest in Amelia and requests her services...
My review - This is a short story, so I try to hold it to different standards. Obviously we are not going to have the character development of a full length story.
One thing that increasingly bothered me as I read the story was the use of the word "dapper". It's a fine word and all but by the end I felt like the author was shoving the word in my face while yelling "DO YOU SEE WHY THE TITLE IS DAPPER?! DAPPER! DAPPERDAPPERDAPPER!!!" I don't mind it being dropped in there once or twice as a tie in to the title but it got a bit ridiculous.
The dialogue was not always very realistic, but again... this is a short, smutty story. We are not reading it for Shakespearean prose, we are reading it to read about sexy women having sexy times. Still, there were a couple of times when it was awkward or unrealistic enough to "pull me out" of the story.
The smut was good, but not mind-blowing. For a sort story the author did a very good job of building it up. A lot of short stories have the characters jump into bed (or against a wall, or on a desk, or in the shower) within the first few page or right after the characters meet. This author allowed for a slightly slower build and it was appreciated.
Buy, Borrow, or Pass? Borrow... or in this case, get it for free. Bold Strokes Books has this short story as a freebie add in all this month with any other e-book purchase!
Easily read in one sitting, Dapper is not at all what I thought it would be. There is definitely an audience for this and one that will thoroughly enjoy its (very) fast-pasted action, snappy characters and quick delivery. I just am not one to fall for trysts in clothing stores and I have only myself to blame for judging this story by its old-fashioned cover, which lead me to believe the tale is something it actually is not.
Don't let my fuddy duddy ways interfere with your reading Dapper :) It does have likable people going for it and is angst-free for those times when you want to completely do away with emotion. The thing is, though, if you much prefer a slow burn storyline with lots of heartfelt romance, Dapper will most likely not be your cup of tea.
Whoooo, is this ever one hot short story! I would quite happily read a full length novel about these characters and hope we see more of them in the future!
Read this and had to go re-read the series especially after finding out a new book in the series is out. So we have here a walk through memory lane of how the principe and principress got to meet etc...so obviously expect steamy romance.
it was just ok. I’m equal parts curious and hesitant to continue the series based on this. I like Amelia, but not so sure about Byron. I don’t love the writing style, and the whole excessively rich becoming enamored with the blue collar girl and whisking her away to adventures thing is not always my cup of tea. I might continue just because I hear there are some steamy scenes in the rest of the series. what? don’t judge! Just being honest. :)
I picked this up last night when I was too overwhelmed with picking my next read (side note: does anyone else get like this? It's amazing we have so much choice now with diverse reads but woah, I feel as though I have books coming out of my ears 🙃) and needed a quick read to take the choice away for just a tad longer. Dapper was a perfect distraction and introduction to Byron De Brek.
It's a super short novelette, but the chemistry between Amelia and Byron was amazing. I finished it wishing it was just a tad longer, and then today I've jumped on Goodreads and realised this was a prelude to Hunger for You. I have to admit I would not have guessed this would be a precursor for a paranormal series featuring Vampires.
Once again Jenny Frame leaves me a pool of molten desire. This author is amazing at building relationships and characters in novels and has even managed it in this short. I loved every word and found myself giggling like a high school girl with a crush. Please please keep writing, I love your stories!
... it IS way to short with 37 pages. There's almost 6 month between Dapper and Hunger for you, and it would have been possible to give a bit more backstory.
4.5 stars. This tension and build up between Byron and Amelia was fantastic. I’m a big fan of Frame’s writing and I absolutely LOVE the way that she writes butch characters and Byron was incredibly swoon worthy. When those two finally got together? Worth the wait, so worth it. It was hot as hell and I will be starting book one asap because I need more of these two.
This was mostly about just the two women meeting and immediately having chemistry and wanting each other. It didn't feel very natural in the interactions the whole time but it was still fun because of the constant flirting. I'm pretty sure Hunger for You is about a vampire but there was no mention of anything supernatural in this story which was honestly pretty disappointing to me. I do plan to read Hunger for You next though.

I really like the way Jenny Frame portrays her characters and the story. But this book didn't capture my fantasy, my emotions. It is a short story I knew about this when I bought the book but all the emotions are on the surface. So not one of her best books, for me.
