Her Christmas Chance (A Christmas Creek Romance) by Rachelle Ayala Life is too short and serious to not look at the lighter side. That's what I love about Ms. Ayala, she finds humor in the humorless, magic in the heartbreaking, hope in the unattainable. Her philosophy is anything is possible with a little love, a ton of faith and a lifetime of optimism. Case in point: Her Christmas Chance. For Bella, the world has been a challenging place and her body her worst enemy, but her heart is her greatest asset. Her empathetic nature helps her experience life in a different way. She sees beauty where others find despair. Chance is no hero. He's made one too many mistakes and disappointed the people that love him most, but even when hope is lost, he has a cheerleader waiting in the wings, encouraging him to become a better man. A great story, has basis in realism and Her Christmas Chance deserves high praise for that.
Audiobook Review: Her Christmas Chance (A Christmas Creek Romance) by Rachelle Ayala
For me reading a story is like watching a movie. In my mind there's an image of how the scene will play out, but it doesn't always end up that way. Her Christmas Chance is like a wonderful gift. It inspires and entertains while waking up even the blackest of hearts. The words were all there, the beauty was evident, all that Bella and Chance needed was the perfect voice to bring their fairy tale to life. Kate Marcin proved the right person for that tough job. It's only fitting that since the author put so much of herself on display that the narrator do likewise. Ms. Marcin made every teardrop worth crying and every smile a well earned reward.
This book had to be extremely difficult to write. Rachel Ayala managed to take the subject of a person who was born with cerebral palsy and show how perseverance and love can overcome even the most difficult of obstacles.
Bella was coddled since birth--given every treatment known to man. But she wants some independence so she settles into a cottage behind where her twin sister lives with her husband. She has a little dog who is constantly being bullied by a BIG cat who decided to move in with them. Now this cat is not used to being stuck in a house all day--and he is a roamer! Unfortunately he loves to make his way next door to her neighbors house and destroy his workshop!! The cat did not like this guy at all--but Bella did. He was her escort at her sister's wedding and she thought he was perfect, kind and understanding. Until that fateful day when he came pounding at her door threatening her cat!! Her cat threatened him right back!
They started to go out as friends--but not without a whole lot of interference from Bella's overprotective family. Chance began to realize that Bella was a lot more capable then she thought she was-It was beautiful to read. Meanwhile they began to have real feelings about each other---the cat was still destroying that workshop every chance he got!
Will these two be able to overcome all the obstacles in their way-and there were many. Would that ornery cat and Chance ever become friends or at least learn to tolerate each other?
There are many lessons to be learned within these pages. This is definitely a novel where tissues are needed-but one you will not soon forget, if ever! Her Christmas Chance
I have been a longtime fan of Rachelle's work, and this was such a lovely and beautiful read--what I've come to expect from an author of her caliber. From the first sweet page to the glorious and romantic conclusion, this is a veritable feast for the soul and a celebration of the true spirit of Christmas. While there are a few words that may offend more sensitive readers and there is a very tame bedroom scene, neither one took away from the sweet story and uplifting message of this Christmas tale.
More than anything else, the fact that Rachelle chose for her heroine to have cerebral palsy was a bold move for which I applaud her on many levels. While society has become more accepting of those with disabilities, there is still a stigma attached to those who suffer from these kinds of handicaps. Even Bella's sister and brother-in-law have a tendency to remind Bella too much of her limitations and caution her against things that she "shouldn't" be doing. To see Bella overcome her limitations is absolutely thrilling, and I couldn't get enough of her beautiful spirit in this book.
On the other hand, Rachelle also makes it a point that prejudices are often experienced by all in some form or fashion. Bella has her preconceived notions concerning Chance and his past, and while he has no physical limitations, in some ways, his past is met with more aspersion and distrust than even Bella has experienced. In fact, Bella herself is guilty of deep-seated beliefs and prejudices that Chance seeks to prove false. Rachelle uses Chance to point out the fact that all of us tend to struggle with a wide variety of biases and assumptions that if left unchecked, lead to us potentially missing cherished opportunities to know people who may impact our lives forever.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone who loves a good romantic story filled with messages that challenge our beliefs and in the end, give us the sort of conclusion that reminds us of the triumph of the human spirit and celebrates everything that is good about the holiday season!
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
Will there be romance at Christmas? I rarely read Christmas books in the run-up to Christmas, so this year I thought I would give it a go and see if it made me feel any more festive. Her Christmas Chance was set at the right time of the year but I wasn't particularly aware of the season, other than the mention of a Christmas tree. The story was more about the relationship between Bella, who has cerebral palsy, and Chance, an ex-con.
Bella has been protected by her family for many years and longs to become more independent. She has moved into a cottage next-door to her newly married sister, Tally, and had met Chance, the brother of Tally's new husband, at the wedding. Chance has a murky past and since leaving jail, has concentrated on his woodwork skills; repairing damaged antiques. There is an attraction between Bella and Chance, but Bella's huge ginger tom cat has a habit of getting into Chance's workshop and destroying his painstaking work.
What with Chance's history, Bella's disabilities and a destructive cat, any relationship seems doomed from the start.
Despite its problems, the friendship between Bella and Chance proceeds in a fairly predictable, but enjoyable fashion and I was enjoying the audiobook. What really threw me with this novel was the episode, towards the end, where Chance and Bella seem to end up in some alternative time. There was no evidence earlier that this was in any way a paranormal novel, so this sudden time-slip seemed completely out of place. In fact the ending, per se, seemed rather awkward and contrived, and for me, dropped a star rating from an otherwise, pretty good read.
The narrator, Kate Marcin, did an excellent job of the challenge thrown up by Bella's speech defect, without rendering her impossible to understand. 5* for the narration, 3.5 stars overall.
I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
Her Christmas Chance is a sweet romance about two people who each think they'll never be in a relationship. Chance is an ex-convict and Bella has Cerebral Palsy. They met each other when his brother and her sister got married and they enjoyed each other's company. Unfortunately, now that they live next door to each other, her cat keeps ruining Chance's work. It's causing a major rift between the two of them. Can they overcome the cat problem and become friends again? Maybe even more than friends?
I like how Chance treats Bella like any other person. Everyone else feels the need to protect Bella and treat her with kid gloves but Chance sees her for what she is: an independent woman.
The narrator did a good job. Her timing was good and I was able to distinguish between all of the characters' voices.
Her Christmas Chance was a sweet heart warming book. I have to say while I really liked Chance my favorite character was Mr. Klutz. I admire Bella's determination to live her life on her terms. I really didn't care for the way her family treated her, even though they said it was out of love. Chance was so easy for me to love. I felt like he was just a truly misunderstood man, who everyone turned into a monster without all the facts. I read this book first and now I really want to go back and read book 1. I would love to see more of Bella, Chance, and of course Mr. Klutz. #MSBB
Our health is something we often take for granted. Bella has had to learn how to deal with her physical disabilities as well as the over-protection that her family has held her captive to. Once she gets out of the shadow of her sister, Bella blossoms into a woman that no one ever expected to encounter - especially Chance. Between the family and cat trying to sabotage their budding relationship, it looks as though Bella and Chance may not have a "chance". Initially, he questions his ability to handle a relationship with a woman who is disabled; however, when he witnesses her independence and resistance against her family's smothering, Chance's heartstrings begin to be tugged upon. Mr. Klutz, the cat, is bound and determined to destroy all potential between the two. I love how Rachelle Ayala brings animals a unique personality in her books. This one is definitely no different! I laughed and ended up teary-eyed just a few paragraphs later - sometimes from laughter and other times, from sadness. This is one of my favorites of Ayala's that I've read thus far! 5-stars all the way!
I received this book through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
This is such an amazing story! Bella has lived with cerebral palsy her whole life, and is learning to be independent of her family. As she gains her independence her crush on Chance grows, even though since she moved to Christmas Creek they seemed to have lost any spark they found in Laguna.
Bella's cat is determined to bring the two together, but their clashing over Mr. Klutz is harming any chance of a relationship between them. Can they overcome a disease and a tragic past?
I love this story, it's so nice to see a main character who isn't "perfect" by typical standards. Bella is an amazing woman who has overcome so much, and I love the fact that she has a chance to have a Happily Ever After!
I received this book through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
I have always loved Rachelle Ayala's books. She sets a great plot and always seems to find things that are very life-like to me. For instance, I could see a cat that is allowed inside and outside to wreak the havoc that Mr. Klutz does.
Bella is one of my favorite characters I have read recently. The fact that she has a handicap, yet is portrayed as having a normal life, makes me want to give a copy of this book to everyone I know. It is seldom that romance novels actually have physical flaws in their characters. There may be flaws like Chance has - having been to prison. But seldom does a lead character have a physical flaw such as Bella needing to use arm-braced crutches to walk.
Bella and Chance worked their ways into my heart with all that was going against them in this book. Bella's family didn't think Chance was for her because of his imprisonment. Chance's family made him feel he wasn't good enough for Bella. At times, Bella's own thoughts went against the two of them. And, at times, Chance felt he was not the right person for Bella. Despite it all, you will find a great romance develops between the two of them.
Pick up your own copy of Her Christmas Chance and see if you enjoy it as much as I did. I received this book through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

This is the story of Bella Tallahan who was born with cerebral palsy with her twin sister. She is trying not to let her disability stop her from doing the things she wants but her twin sister Tally and her new husband Lucky Lenigan seem to be treating her like a child, and when she moves into her own place near to Tally so she can have a semblance of independence she is attracted to the new neighbour Chance Martin who happens to be Luck’s brother and also an ex-con. Chance had spent ten years in prison and hadn’t had any sort of relationship because as soon as they find out he is an ex-con they fly the coop but when he Bellas tabby cat Mr Klutz nearly destroys all his work in his furniture workshop he has to go over to Bella and give her a piece of his mind, This was a funny story about two people trying to get over their differences and form an attraction and love between each other. Rachelle Ayala did a good job here and it makes you see that people who are different can also have a loving relationship and not be hindered by their disabilities. Can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.
Although this is the second in a series, you can read this standalone without having read the first one. I enjoyed the author’s writing and would consider going back to book one to read that too. I always recommend reading series in order, but you could approach it however you see fit.
Her Christmas Chance is a quick holiday themed read with an interesting storyline. This book included some heavy emotional situations and secrets and it was an interesting progression to discover what the characters were hiding. I have to say I think this is the first book I’ve ever read where the main character had an illness such as cerebral palsy. I wonder how true the individual’s illness and everyday movement is in line with someone that actually has this illness. It was refreshing to read a book where someone with an illness was the main character rather than just the supporting character and that their illness was not the main topic of the book but something that developed the character and was a part of the story but not the main focus.
I liked the character development and overall enjoyed the story. Bella's cat is always getting into trouble and I found myself laughing at all it's mischief. One of the main themes/lesson of the story is about love and forgiveness. People that have done terrible things might not deserve our forgiveness, but if we have enough love in our hearts, we can learn to forgive them and create a path to move forward in life and rebuild relationships. Love always drives out hate and it's never too late to apologize for past wrongdoings and move forward in building bridges and a strong foundation of life and love.
I've been a fan of Rachelle Ayala for a while and have read almost all of her books! They've all been so good, and this one was absolutely NO different! I love books about second chances, especially around the holidays! This book will warm your heart and help inspire you to go after the one you have wanted for so long.
Once again, in this book, Rachelle Ayala shows her amazing story telling abilities while drawing the readers attention to conditions (disabilities) that people might not know a lot about. Bella and Chance are the complete opposites, but you know how that saying goes, Opposites attract, and that's completely true in Her Christmas Chance. They compliment each other perfectly and their story shows that love doesn't discriminate!
Her Christmas Chance is a fantastic love story including a disability that you hear of but is not necessarily well known. Rachelle does such a great job with the aspects of disabilities that she either knows about it personally or does a lot of research. She does a great job in portraying all the little things that most people take for granted and don’t realize that individuals with a disability face on a day to day basis. I can’t imagine the struggles that Bella has to go through on a daily basis. Yet Bella is a strong and independent woman that learns it is okay to lean on someone while still being independent.
Her Christmas Chance is an intriguing and well-written story. The characters are well developed, realistic and engaging. Rachelle Ayala does a great job of intertwining the different characters in the series throughout each book. This author is one who knows how to write a book that will capture your emotions and keep a hold of them to the very end. My attention was captured from the very beginning; I couldn’t put the book down. When you finish this book, you will have confidence and hopefulness in love along with a sense of understanding and compassion for people that go through struggles daily.
This is one of several books that I have read by Rachelle Ayala and will certainly not be my last. I have not been disappointed yet! Rachelle Ayala takes her research and knowledge and creates books that will capture your heart and leave you on an emotional high. I recommend Her Christmas Chance to anyone that enjoys reading a unique and delightful romance.
This book caught me by surprise. I know Rachelle Ayala writes a very sweet love story, with surprises always included. This one has an unusual slant - the two people have "issues" they need to come to terms with within themselves and with each other, or possibly with how other people want them to see each other. It is a story about finding love but also finding your own place in the world. It is sassy sweet. Speaking of sassy - there is this uncontrollable cat. I worried about the cat for the entire book! As if this "odd couple" doesn't have enough going against them, family members trying to influence their paths in life, town gossips, and more, a bit of Christmas magic injects itself. You'll have to decide for yourself what really happens or doesn't. Happily - the cat makes it all the way to the end.
I love Rachelle Ayala's books. Bella wants to find love like her twin sister Tally did when she met and fell in love with Lucky. Bella wants so much to be accepted and not treated like she can't do anything on her own. Bella met Lucky's brother, Chance, at the wedding where she was Maid of Honor and Chance was Best Man. Chance has a past. Will Bella want to stay away from him when she finds out what he did? Will Bella listen to what the people in Christmas Creek say about Chance and listen to their warnings to stay away from him? Chance wants people to accept him and not condemn him for his past. Will Bella get her Christmas "chance" at love? Will the magic in Christmas Creek bring Bella's love to her and Chance get over his past?
What happens when a woman with physical disabilities meets a man with emotional problems. Add in a cranky cat a little puppy and the magic of Christmas. Her family is overprotective except the jealous brother that wants her to hurt. His family keeps his secrets. Can they find happiness together or will their problems keep them apart? I love Christmas Creek, and want more of these stories.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Kate Marcin brings the story to life.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Alternate title: “Horrified family clutches pearls whilst disabledgirl adult woman is expected to gratefully accept goodwill Make-a-wish dick”
I reread this book solely to take notes for my weekly tradition of torturing my partner by recounting the worst novels until he dissociates and yearns for the void.
MMC His entire personality is Scary Broken Man Feared by Society™. He stalks around town deliberately trying to look intimidating, then immediately collapses into a shame spiral when people—SHOCKINGLY —find him intimidating. The cognitive dissonance alone could power a small city.
- at different occasions in the book he tells her he could “snap her neck” and later that she should dump him because he could “strangle her in her bed” 🤔 which is a completely valid reason for townspeople to stay the fuck away from him.
What is this deep sin that makes him completely inhuman and unredeemable? After a lifetime of abuse, he fought back against his abuser. HOW DARE HE?
The book leans on racist tropes, tying his perceived danger and “sketchiness” and brooding" to his racial ambiguity / darker skin tone. Dark, shadowy, ominously evil. This bias is never unpacked or challenged. Even when his own brother makes the big disclosure to FMC that his dad was horrifically abusive, the fact that he was also Middle Eastern is seen as natural connection… Note : the shitty things he actually verbally threatened above are not identified as red flags though.
FMC / Disability Representation: D- These categories are inseparable because the FMC has no identity beyond her disability. No hobbies, no interests, no interior life, and virtually nothing about her supposedly successful influencer career. Her entire characterization exists to be pitied, managed, or inspirationally endured.
The disability portrayal itself is a mess. Her cerebral palsy fluctuates wildly depending on whether the scene requires angst or sex. She is repeatedly described as scissor-walking, shambling, and struggling across rooms—until the narrative suddenly needs her to “glide” gracefully for a romantic moment. She requires eye-gaze software to use a computer, yet has the fine motor control to re-weave furniture. She cannot walk without crutches due to the extreme leg scissoring—except when MMC sweeps away to his motorcycle that she is magically able to wrap her legs around and have the physical strength and balance to hold on.
Her speech impairment is treated like a punchline. Every word is “warbled,” and the MMC mocks her at their very first confrontation—despite - understanding her perfectly. He’s mad about her cat, so naturally humiliation targeted at her biggest insecurity is the plan. This is our first exposure to this character, not exactly charming there, bro.
BUT WAIT! her disability can be “overcome” with practice…and the power of love. FMC sheds her crutches for a romantic dance, then casually treks through uneven forest floors—no fatigue, no risk, no consequences! For 25 years, all she was missing was some dude with a 6 pack who *believed in her*
Mobility aids are not cosmetic. They provide balance, stamina, and fall prevention. Can she technically walk without them? Maybe, but at great personal risk, fatigue and frustration. Her quality of life is better WITH THEM. Its becomes painfully obvious when the author refers to “being shackled to crutches”. Why does she "overcome" the crutches? Because disability is inconvenient. The characters (and the readers) can’t see her as independent, sexy, or deserving of autonomy if she LOOKS disabled. Education, career, competence? All irrelevant. Only those unsexy crutches matter.
The family is presented as both “just overprotective.”, yet cartoonishly evil. Its almost too exaggerated to be good parody. Every word, every glance, every interaction screams “you are delicate, precious, incapable” 🤮. And guess what? The MMC absorbs it like a sponge, parroting their infantilizing habits. That’s right just like BIL, her partner adopts the abusive language of her family. FanFUCKINGtastic. In fact, at one point, he deliberately leaves her without her crutches, forcing her to crawl across the house to bed. Instead of helping, he gives himself a medal for not offering assistance. it doesnt matter that he had already been helping her from the bike to her do0r. He chooses to leave her hanging to prove that he respects her independence and dignity. Bravo, romance hero! Every woman wants their very first date to end by army crawling through the house. SWOONING!
Make no mistake: this family is monstrously abusive. FMC’s inner monologues of worthlessness are not exclusively hers. they are decades of internalized abuse being repeated ad nauseam. She’s 25, and they gang up on her in public to declare she’s incapable of sex, unfit to parent, and that CPS would intervene if she ever had a child. WHAT?! Even if that were a remotely valid concern—it’s not—the public shaming is grotesque. The implication is that she has no right to privacy, no right to discretion, no right to exist as an actual adult.
At minimum, the author could have at least one character internally correct the record: CP is a birth injury, not a genetic curse. But no. Decades of obsessive, controlling behavior remain unquestioned, unchallenged, and, presumably, emotionally convenient for the family’s fragile egos. Is their self-esteem literally built on tormenting her? Because it sure reads that way.
What the author is trying to do is frame them as being so wrong about their suck ass behavior- especially contrasting with how she is treated with personal autonomy and basic human decency by….. umm….. well…. Fuck.
It would be unfair to say that no one in this books sees her as competent. -One sister who shows kindness and appears in 2 entire scenes - an evil abusive parent of MMC who treats FMC better than her own family. - her cat .The most emotionally intelligent character in the book is the orange cat, which should be embarrassing for everyone involved.
🌶️ scenes- dry and underwhelming as stale Necco wafers.
During the first 🌶️ scene we get this banger of a direct quote: “softly caressing her breasts and brushing across her belly. Thank goodness, she wasn’t deformed there, and her tits were what he’d called a nice handful.”
So shes gross but at least she's got good tiddies, AMIRIGHT?
We also don’t see the MMC actually having raw sexual attraction for FMC. He sees her as “cute” “adorable” “precious” but not really as “sexy”. That is frustrating because it mirrors how her family infantilizes her/ thinks she can’t be sexual/ etc. Im glad he could “see past it” but.. can he just find her hot? No. disabled people cant be hot. obviously.
HEA? And then…20-year time travel? Hallucination? Shared dream? Somehow, FMC and MMC go back to confront abusive parents two decades in the past, and magically all their trauma is resolved. FMC is able-bodied during this miracle trip, but who cares? Return to the present: HEA achieved. Everything that was almost believable collapses under the weight of this absurd deus ex machina.
The book doubles down with a heavy dose of JESUS: one altar call, instant forgiveness, and immediate Christmas invitation. Therapy, accountability, emotional labor? Optional. Just pray harder, folks!!!
Special bonus? the epilogue was written by the ABUSIVE PARENT WHO SENT MMC TO PRISON IN THE FORST PLACE??!?
As a reader with CP, I actively seek authentic representation. This book is a masterclass in everything to avoid when writing disabled characters. Moral of the story? FMC should just be grateful she snagged a man who treats her slightly better than her emotionally abusive family, and forgives her disgusting body because she has decent boobs. #winning
This is a train wreck. All of it. The author probably donates to the Special Olympics just for a selfie.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Bella has a wayward cat that likes to find himself in Chance’s woodworking shop tearing things up. Chance confronts Bella and upsets her. Bella is devastated she has a crush on chance and is resigned that relationships are not for her. Chance apologizes for upsetting her and shows her a good time. More and more time they spend together it seems Chance can look past Bella’s disabilities. The only thing holding them back is the secret of what put Chance in jail which he was released from three years ago. Chance is afraid when the truth comes out Bella will be the one that will want to run. In an Oyster Shell – A good romance that was tasteful and inspiring. The Pearls – I here the term diverse characters being thrown around and I think Bella should be considered a diverse character especially in a romance. Bella was severely disabled and was not your typical heroine for a romance. I loved it. Her disabilities where her strength and how Chance accepted them made them even more beautiful. I loved that this book was set in a small town with a big loving family thrown into the mix. Bella’s family comes to town and there is drama from her brother but other than that her family is overprotective of her. When they make a point to let her make her own decisions and accept Chance it leaves you with a cozy feeling. I like the character development. Both Bella and Chance thought they were social rejects that nobody could love. They proved each other wrong. That took a lot of guts that they acquired through perseverance.
I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars! It's a wonderful Christmas read that will make you feel super warm and fuzzy inside! I would encourage any Christmas fan to read this book....and don't forget to cuddle up by the fireplace with a warm cup of hot coco! Enjoy!
I want to start out by giving huge kudos to the author! Writing any story is tough, but to take on subjects as cerebral palsy, child abuse, and ex-cons, Rachelle Ayala has blown my mind with her talent.
When it comes to the characters, you can't help but admire Bella's determination to be independent, even if her whole family (well, accept from her brother) wants to keep her in a bubble. Chance's story is heartbreaking, and boy, I got so mad, at the people responsible. But I love the way he sees Bella for who she is, and encourages her to do what ever she wants.
Her Christmas Chance is a beautiful story, of overcoming adversity and finding love, even if it does come with a destructive cat! Which is why I am giving it 5 stars!
I had to read this one because one it's a Christmas romance and two the first line of the blurb says a cat is in the book. There was no way I was passing this up. This one was a little extra special because Bella herself is special. Reading this book shows you what true love looks like in the most beautiful way. It's was so beautiful to watch Bella and Chance. Chance his own secrets and past the brings darkness in him, but Bella brings the light back in his life. Chance fears his past will be too much for Bella to bear. The cat in this one is full of mischief, but as you read on you can see his true mission. I'm so glad I read this one because it's beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. There was one scene that felt like an odd fit for the book, but otherwise spot on for me.
Being born with cerebral palsy, Bella Tallahan has always lived vicariously through her twin sister Tally. After Tally marries Lucky Lenigan, Bella moves into the in-law cottage behind their home. Her family is too overprotective and Bella is ready to live on her own. The cottage came with a cranky, mean-spirited, tabby cat named Mr. Klutz that Bella adopted but can’t keep out of trouble. Lucky’s brother Chance, who lives next door in the carriage house, can’t keep Mr. Klutz from ruining his antique restorations, causing strife between him and Bella, but also inadvertently bringing them together.
I liked how strong and fearless Bella was. Well, almost fearless. It was a bit funny following all the antics of Mr. Klutz, although Chance didn’t think so. And it was heartbreaking, reading how a mother can cause a child so much emotional pain. It’s hard to fathom. I’m just glad there was the merriment of Christmas to balance everything out and with a little magic, bring it all together. I love all the stories that this author comes up with involving animals.
The audiobook Her Christmas Chance: A Christmas Creek Romance, Book 2 by Rachelle Ayala, narrated by Kate Marcin will warm your heart and inspire you to go after the one you've been dreaming about for so long! I truly enjoyed listening to this audiobook about following your heart and finiding the happiness you deserve. Sometimes in life we are too scared to go for what we want because the idea of failing or being rejected seems scarier than putting yourself out there for all to see. What if people laugh at you? What if you get turned down? What if the truth is something you don't want to hear? Well...guess what? Living life never knowing is worse! If you love someone, go find out if they feel the same! If you don't take a daring leap into the unknown, unpredictable world of 💗love💗, you might live your entire life wondering...what if...? Noooo! It IS okay if you get rejected or if it doesn't work out because then you can at least move on with a fresh start from there....and, you will know the truth. If you need a little inspiration, encouragement, or push in the right direction, this wonderful story by Rachelle Ayala might help you take that next step!
Once again, Rachelle Ayala shows her outstanding story telling ability, while also drawing awareness to certain conditions and/or disorders that some people may not know much about. In this audiobook, main character Bella has Cerebral Palsy. Not knowing much about Cerebral Palsy, I am glad I chose this book to listen to. I feel like I have become more familiar with what it is, the causes behind it, and the symptoms. Thank you so much for creating such an amazing character. This book is so much more than an entertaining story...it teaches, informs, inspires, and loves from all angles. :-)
The narration by Kate Marcin is equally amazing. She does an excellent job! As a listener of this genre, I couldn't ask for anything more from her performance. I loved it!
Overall, this audiobook deserves 5/5 stars across the board! I recommend it to fans of romance, sweet love, and stories where our beloved pets are actual characters, too! Listening to Bella's story and watching her grow over time, reminded me of a quote from the movie - We Bought a Zoo (Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson). It said, "Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage, and I promise you something great will come out of it." So, as you can see, it doesn't matter if you succeed or fail, what matters is taking that next step...it could change your life! Good things will come your way...whether it be courage, confidence, love, or money, taking a blind leap toward our goals, wants, and dreams is sometimes necessary! This book reminded me to stop wondering and waiting for life to come to me...instead, I need to go out and make my dreams a happy reality, so I can finally start living the life I deserve! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)
Her Christmas Chance is a truly enchanting and beautifully touching story of forgiveness and redemption. Above all, we just want to be loved and accepted for who we are. This incredible book highlights that one desperate desire and shows just how powerful of a motivator it is in every area of our life. No matter what we do, we can’t hide from it. We have to walk out and hold our head high no matter what we have to face. This beautiful story is a living and breathing reminder that we are all purposefully unique, loved beyond all measure, and created for a very special purpose.
Bella is a woman of great strength and unfailing love. However, she has grown restless with her life. She is ready to finally spread her wings and experience more of what life has to offer. The only issue is trying to convince her family that she can do this on her own. While her family has been wonderfully supportive of her in light of her cerebral palsy, their recent efforts have grown more and more stifling. In an act of independence and desperation, Bella finds herself following her sister to Christmas Creek, California where she discovers more than just a new appreciation for the spirit of Christmas. Chance has been on the straight and narrow for the past three years. Working for his step-father has brought him the acceptance and love that he has been missing for most of his life. He couldn’t ask for more until his brother Lucky meets Bella’s sister Tally. Being inexplicably drawn to Bella and her loving spirit changes Chance more then he realizes. He wants more now than he ever has, but can his future withstand his past when it rears its ugly head?
I can’t get over just how much and how hard I fell in love with both Chance and Bella. They were both incredibly amazing characters in their own right. I admired their inner strength and their fierce determination to live the way they saw fit. They never backed down from their ultimately goal, and once they found something truly worth fighting for they held on for dear life. Their journey was hard but wonderful to watch as it ultimately shaped them into a beautifully refined version of themselves.
Rachelle Ayala will always hold my heart in the palm of her hands with each powerful yet gently story she brings to life. It’s hard to find an author that stirs your soul the way that she does. There is no mistaking her gentle heart and her graceful gift of words. They will penetrate even the hardest of hearts if given the chance. I challenge even the most devout literary readers to pick up one of Rachelle’s books and not find yourself lost to a world of painful struggle yet blissful hope and love. Her writing will literally change your world because it will change your heart.
Two people who is very different and and have faced some truly horrible things in life meet, things can go either wrong or right. In this book we get to meet two people who I really feel for and to see how they are living and dealing with different kinds of hardship. This is a very tragic and still very sweet Christmas story that leaves you in tears.
For being a Christmas novel, this one is deeper and darker and still very sweet and romantic. It shows how life can be both good and bad and that no one is perfect and that we all have our self and our past to deal with. Even if this Christmas story is so different it is a super great read that challenge the reader to widen the way they see romance novels and specially Christmas romance novels. This book is truly amazing and a masterpiece.
I have read so many of Rachelle Ayalas book and love every single on of them and this is no exception but I must say that this book is one is special due to the feelings in it and how emotional it is. It is not often I sit and cry for 10 minutes due to the feelings and hardships in a book. I did after reading this one. The feelings are so real and it really shows that a persons story is not over when the book is over.
The book takes place in Christmas Creek and there is connections to the first book “Deck the hearts” that took place in the same city. I like how it is two different stories but they are still connected in so many ways, like spiritual and also some characters that you cant skip or know about that is essential for the town.
What I do like in this book, and some of Rachelle's other books too, is that she can take a heavy subject and a taboo subject and wright it in a romance novel and use it to strengthen the characters and to let them have troubles and facing horrible stuff. It makes it so much more real and emotional and it gives hope that no matter what you have done in the past or has been done to you, there is hope. The same goes for disabilities and whatever it may be, it is used and strengthen the characters and the readers.
This is not an easy read because it has a heavy subject and it is not all sweet but that is what makes it so great. So if you just want a sweet story without to much troubles there is many other great Christmas books but if you want one who really makes you feel and think then this is the book you should read. Even if the subject is heavy it is still a sweet romance novel that ticks all the right boxes for me. I must say that this is truly a must read if you like great book with a great storyline in a Christmas theme but that isn't only Christmas.
Rachelle Ayala has written a truly interesting and joyous novella.
She took an interesting concept for her female lead: that she has cerebral palsy; as well as her main male character: an "ex-con" that has a large secret around it.
While many others, including most members of her family, treat Bella as handicapped and always needing assistance, they stifle her and focus on her limitations.
When we first meet Bella, she believes these negativity's because they are so rote in her family. But If she speaks negatively about herself they all change their tune and tell Bella she can do anything she sets her mind to. Sadly, most people around her do the flip flopping messages and behaviors toward Bella. And she has grown beyond tired of it all.
The one person who truly sees beyond her limitations and treats her like anyone else is Chance. He has had a crush on her for awhile. He doesn't put Bella down, but boosts her up. Bella loves her times with Chance and the way he makes her feel: like anyone else. But Chance has been in jail and no one will tell anyone else why.
Turns out there is a long history that sent him to jail and that he could have remained out of jail completely if one person had not made the decisions she had at that time. Years led up to his actions; years that didn't have to occur.
Both Bella and Chance have some healing to do in one area of their life or another. But they are able to take on the world as long as they are together.
This was a sweet novella. I loved Bella and Chance's story and how perfect they are for each other. I love that he is her champion and pushes her nicely and she is able to help him start to heal his family/personal issues.
This novella has been written from the heart and will touch the readers heart throughout. The role of forgiveness weaves in and out throughout this novella. The differing viewpoints surrounding Bella and her CP go from fully supportive of her being on her own to maybe you shouldn't be alone except with Chance. He has had faith in her from day one. He loves Bella for who she is inside. And once Chance's secret is out, Bella's compassion toward him not only surprises Chance, but gives him a totally different perspective in which to view himself.
Kudos to Rachelle Ayala for taking two individual stories and bringing them together on the road to healing themselves individually so they can build on their relationship and time together. And for teaching us that "Love is forgiveness" be it toward yourself or another.
This is a novella that can be read any time of the year, but is a great non-traditional story, as well.
Her Christmas Chance by Rachelle Ayala is the second book in A Christmas Creek Romance series. This book had my heart from the first chapter. I loved Chance and Bella. Christmas Creek is a small town that is centered around Christmas. Christmas is the busiest time of year for the town.
Chance is a bad boy with horrible past. Everyone judge's him because he has been to prison and no one knows why. As a felon Chance faces discrimination every where he turns. So when he looses his s*** because his neighbors cat ruins his work. He becomes the man every one thinks he is. So maybe now everyone including his neighbor will leave him alone in his fathers wood shop.
Bella has cerebral palsy and is handicapped. She wants to live life on her own. She wishes her family had more faith in her to make choices for herself. Bella lives in a cottage in her sisters back yard. So when her hunk of a neighbor challenges her not being able to care for her pet it infuriates her. Who does he think he is?
I absolutely adored Chance and Bella's story. One part of the story almost changed my mind about this book. It completely turned me off and I could have lived without the scene entirely. I decided not to let one bad scene judge the book for me.
This is the second book in the Christmas Creek Series and I highly recommend reading Deck the Halls first. Although Her Christmas Chance can be read as a stand-alone there are certain parts that make more sense having read the other book first.
Bella Tallahan has been living in her twin sister, Tally's shadow for many years. Bella has cerebral palsy and finds it difficult to walk and talk and finds herself in the shadows while life goes on around her.
Chance Martin made a mistake and he's paid for it dearly. He finds homself working for his step-father Louie and is being tormented by Mr.Klutz - a big orange cat owned by Bella. As much as he tries to stay away from Bella he finds himself wanting to get closer to her but is afraid that the secrets in his past will push her away.
As Bella and Chance begin to get to know each other there are pressures coming from each direction, especially from Bella's family and will the secrets in his past cause him to lose the woman he has gotten close to?
I really enjoyed this book as it really looks at love and forgiveness and the powers of judgement before hearing the whole story.
Bella had her disabilities but Chance really pushed her and there was such an improvement from start to finish with her walking, etc. Someone to believe in you can do miracles!
The whole story with Chance is so sad as the stuff he went through was just devastating and it is no wonder he has a cynical view of how people view him. Yet due to Bella's support he is able to get through everything!
Their families both have certain issues and I hope something big happens to Nate to shut him down!! I'm looking forward to more books involving the families of Christmas Creek!
I read Her Christmas Chance as part of the box set, Christmas Pets and Kisses 2. It actually only took me a day to finish the story. I have been reading the box set all month. I loved this story! Rachelle Ayala is a powerful writer. This is one of several of her books I have read with a character who has special needs. She writes these characters as strong, capable people who just do things differently. She keeps it real though. They have moments of weakness and family who don't always know what is best, (though they think they do). I absolutely love that about her writing. Her Christmas Chance tells us the romance between Chance and Bella. Chance is a "bad boy" with a past who has been trying to change his image and turn his life around. Bella, a woman with cerebral palsy, is his sister in law. She is also changing her life, living in a home next door to him. This is her first time living on her own, even if her sister lives next door and doesn't truly believe Bella can do it. Both Chance and Bella have obstacles to overcome, one major obstacle being both their families. Bella also has a cat who has taken a particular dislike of Chance and his work. This was a fun story to read. I was totally engrossed in it, reading it non stop. I read for fun and often dive into unrealistic realms. This story kept it real in my opinion but was still highly entertaining. Her Christmas Chance is a part of the Christmas Creek series. I have not read the other books in the series. Though it does make mention of another romance, (Bella's sister and Chance's brother), I was able to fully follow and enjoy the story. If you are looking for a romance that is a bit different and tells a powerful story, grab this one!
I have read a few of Rachelle Ayala's books in the past and have so many I want to read, but this one really stood out for me. Bella is a young woman, living on her own with a manic cat, she is also a twin to her sister Tally. They may be sisters, they may be twins but one thing makes them different from each other - Bella has cerebral palsy. This story is all about her breaking free from her sisters shadow, standing on her own two feet and showing the world that she can make it on her own despite her disability.
Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would fall in love with the bad boy next door though! Chance Martin, he is Bella's brother in law, and not only that but he has spent time in prison, the reason as to what he was in for is being bantered about the town as gossip and whilst it is not initially known, Bella accepts him for who he is and in Chance's own way he accepts her for who she is as well.
Chance came over as a bit of an numpty acting all gruff and mean, but really deep down he didn't think he was deserving of anyone's love, let alone Bella's. I loved their interactions with each other, and their story and how strong Bella was as a character in overcoming her overbearing family who although they were only looking out for her best interest they were treating her almost like a child due to her disability - but boy did she prove them all wrong.
Bella & Chance are the complete opposite yet compliment each other perfectly, their story shows that love doesn't discriminate.
I received this book through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
