integrity: noun. the quality of being morally and ethically upright.
When grad student Jackson Greene starts his job as a college teaching assistant, the last person he expects to work for is the man who broke his heart six years ago. Jackson has moved on since then. Of course he has. But when he looks into the older man's eyes, all the familiar pain and desire rush back in.
integrity: noun. the state of being whole and undiminished.
Visiting professor Matthew Smith has never forgotten the shame of how he ended their previous affair, nor has he recovered from the guilt of daring to love a student. Jackson is still as vibrant and beautiful as he was when Matt first fell in love with him. Now they're peers. Colleagues. And they work together just as well as they always used to - better, even. Could there be more?
They both know that mere friendship isn't enough to heal their wounds, but a love affair is just as illicit now as it was then. The threat of scandal means that both of their careers are on the line - but is a second chance at happiness worth the risk of exposure?
Integrity is a novella of approximately 40,000 words. It is a stand alone book with no cliffhanger and ends with a HEA.
*** Smart with great promise, Jackson, 25, is going for his PHD. *** He'll be a TA, teaching assistant, for a famous professor. When he walks into the classroom, it's a different professor, Matt, 33, one he knows too well. They had a past. These two men are thrown into each other's path again, and it seems destiny has taken over. After starting out trying to stay apart, they give in to their feelings. Imagine Matt's surprise that Jackson has been with no one else and is still a virgin. They are a perfect fit in all ways, and their sexy times are steamy and loving. When Jackson gets his PHD, he will be going to Oxford. Matt will be tenured at Rose State. Questions: will it work out? Can they survive the distance? Should they? When Jackson's precious Gran has a heart attack, Matt is by his side, but later things change. It seems their history is repeating itself. I liked this story; the emotions and caring; the well written tale of two destined souls. Great epilogue. ENJOY ! ===================
Okay, I can't. I just can't. The writing and the editing [double threat] were driving me batty. Stilted and unnatural ... it was obnoxious as hell. Hard pass!! I have the others KUed ... I'll try and see if this is a fluke or if they're all like that :-/.
****** I'm intrigued by this series and have decided to KU them all. If I like how things roll, I'll purchase them too :-). Now let's see ...
This is a decent story about second chances and while I'm not a fan of teacher student affairs when they're 18, I don't mind college professor and an older student. This one has a bit of both with a six year gap between encounters for the MCs, who were both literary aficionados who meet again at college when the professor gets a post covering another's class and our younger guy is the TA. It's not badly written but Jackson does come across as a bit juvenile while professor Matt is weak willed but I guess they are realistic tropes after all. My first time reading this author and it was a fairly pleasant experience.
When I started reading this, I thought I would like it more than I actually did. Overall, it was a decent second chance romance but at times I found it dragged a bit too much. Jackson didn’t come across as mature as the author would’ve liked, in fact, he was rather impetuous and brazen like a horny teenager. Matt, on the other hand, was just the opposite. As the “mature” one of the two, he couldn’t seem to make a responsible decision and stick to it. And there were quite a few things that didn’t make sense to me. Why did Jackson only speak to his Gran barely once a month? I could understand why he didn’t get back to the farm very often, but if this woman was his guiding light as he so gushed about, then the severe lack of communication was startling. And then when she died, he spends less than twentyfour hours in town and then he off again. Surely he could have made it through the weekend. The writing was fairly consistent and the editing good, but just for the first half. After that there were quite a few mistakes and “huh?” moments. When Trevor goes to see Matt in his office, there was one paragraph in particular of Trevor speaking that I read over and over and still couldn’t make sense of it. The epilogue was sweet but I would have expected the proposal to come sooner than just before they leave the country.

"Are we going to play out the same history again, or just the greatest hits?" -- Jackson
Six years ago, Matt thought he was doing right by Jackson when he ended their affair. Besides, Matt should never have gotten involved with his eighteen year old student in the first place. He was risking his name and career. Jackson was the yin to his yang, and no matter how hard Matt tried to deny him, the young man seemed to have a hold on him.
Jackson was a force of nature when he wanted something.
Jackson was on his way to getting his Ph.D in Oxford. Everyone expected it of one of Rose College's brightest student. When he accepted a T.A. position with his professor, he never expected to walk into the sabbatical professor's classroom and face his past. Matt had broken his heart, but Jackson could not deny the feelings that was still there between the two of them and actively pursued Matt. Just like before, they risked it all by picking up where they left off.
Is a second chance at happiness worth the risk of exposure?
Through the risk of Matt and Jackson being exposed, Matt losing a job he likes and family issues, the men become each other's everything. There was no denying the passion between them. "True love was just a choice of who you got on the roller coaster with, to ride all the way to the end." -- Matt
Read to see where true integrity lies. It was a pleasure reading this book and I can confess, I shed a few tears. Heartfelt and wonderful.
I loved reading the story of Jackson and Matt. Their relationship was forbidden because of the possible ramifications yet that didn't stop them from falling in love, now they have a second chance at a relationship 6 years later at college. There are many obstacles in their way yet each leans on the other in their time of need. I loved the ending.
This is a heartfelt story between two people that have to put a side a set of beliefs that have been taught since the beginning of society. They have their ups and down and thorough these they learn to love each other.
