Houston’s company lands a deal that could pave the way for the first shopping center in Ouna Bay, which is enough reason to celebrate at the local country club. But when the guest of honor is found dead at the party with one of Becky’s famous peanut butter crumble cupcakes, all eyes are on her!
How did the cupcake make its way to that party? And who would want to frame Becky for the murder? And most importantly, why did the murder occur in the first place?
Can Becky clear her name and find the real killer?
Join Becky, Rosalie, Houston and Dwight (and the newly added character to the cast – Gerry, the dog) as they unravel secrets of the past to restore sanity in the present!
Deany Ray has always wanted to be a writer so she decided to take the plunge and dive into it. She loves writing cozy mysteries, as this is what she likes to read the most. Her favorite activities are traveling, going to the movie theatre, meeting up with friends and having cooking sessions with her awesome mom.
This one was a little less silly. Becky has a good reason to investigate this time because she's under suspicion. I doubt the police would let Houston be her lawyer but he tries to help. The investigation makes sense and Becky and Rosalie only do one outrageous, illegal and stupid thing.
I guessed who the murderer was pretty early on. I wasn't sure until the big clue about Harry was dropped. He seemed like such a nice man and one who enjoyed his food. He didn't seem to enjoy life as much though from the clues. How sad for him. The plot was just tragic. I was heartbroken for Ruth. Harry was her whole life.
I could have done without the Briana subplot. Ugh aren't we over that man-eating, beautiful woman stereotype? Briana is a witch with a capital W who doesn't see Becky as competition for Houston's affections. Briana thinks because she's a beautiful, successful corporate lawyer she can have whoever she wants. It might be Houston but there may also be someone else in her sights. She didn't have any motive to kill Harry, just the opposite actually, so I don't think Briana is a suspect but she's so nasty it would have been nice.
Arthur Klein, owner of Epicurian Delights catering, has the prime motive to both kill Harry AND frame Becky. Competition. Rumor has it a new bakery is going to open up in the shopping complex being built on the Willis's land. If true, that makes three bakers in town. Can Ouna Bay support that much competition? Yet Epicurian is totally different from Becky's cafe. She sells cakes and cupcakes and Arthur cooks and bakes for parties. I wouldn't rule him out though. Another suspect is Nolan, a kid who lives nearby and works at the pet supply shop in town. He seems like a typical worthless young man with bigger dreams than he has the smarts or talent to match up to. What would be his motive though? How would he know Harry? He wasn't even at the party.
Sweet Geronimo the Beagle is Rosalie's newest obsession. She baby talks to him but she doesn't do anything to train him. He takes a shine to Becky of course because she's not much of a dog person. The horror! I knew this series wasn't quite clicking for me. I need baking AND a cute dog! She's horrible to Dwight. She uses him because he's on the police force and isn't bright enough to realize she fancies herself Nancy Drew. She also likes Dwight because he's a good cook. I don't like this power imbalance in the relationship. I also don't like how Houston has to go along with the ladies in their investigation to keep them safe. Yeesh. What century is this?
This series suffers from a lack of recipes. I need a recipe for peanut butter crumble cupcake and peppermint meringue cake! OMG!
Once again Becky and Rosalie find themselves involved in trying to solve a murder in their quiet town. The twist and turns will have you spinning Ang wondering just who the killer was. You'll find yourself laughing at Rosales antics and ideas, and poor Becky having to worry about her business because once again things are pointing towards her. This was a well written mystery which was funny at times. Loved it!
Peanut Butter Crumble Murder is the fourth book of the Ouna Bay Cozy Mysteries Series. I read the first book of the series, A Sweet Chunk of Madness, at the recommendation of another author. I liked that story so much that I immediately downloaded the Ouna Bay Cozy Mystery Boxed Set from KU to continue reading the rest of the series. I just finished reading this fourth book and love this series!
Becky and Rosalie’s romances continue to develop in this story. Houston and Dwight seem to be perfect matches for the girls. Becky is still headstrong and relentless in her pursuit of solving the mystery at hand. Of course, this time she is in the hot seat and needs to clear her name. Rosalie remains her trusted and faithful friend. She is ready to do whatever it takes to clear Becky’s name.
Peanut Butter Crumble Murder is a well written sweet romantic cozy mystery. It is a fun and easy, quick read. It is a clean romantic story (no foul language or smut).
I will be reading more of the Ouna Bay Cozy Mysteries Series as it becomes available. If you enjoy reading a good cozy mystery, then I urge you to grab a copy of this book now. I recommend Peanut Butter Crumble Murder to a person of any age that enjoys an easy to read, fun story.
At a party to celebrate the closure of a deal that would afford Harry & Ruth enough money to travel the country in an RV, Harry is found dead. He had a peanut allergy and had apparently eaten a Peanut Butter Crumble cupcake from Blue Bay Cafe. But Becky hadn't catered the party and didn't know how one of her cupcakes was even at the event. Becky and Rosalie are once again thrust into investigating. Their pursuit of clues uncovers a disturbing mystery. So many questions plague this case. Is Briana, the beautiful assistant in Houston's law office, out to seduce Houston? What is she doing in a sleezy bar with their boss? What connection does the kid who bought a Peanut Butter Crumble cupcake have to the case, and why is he working for the widow? And does the beagle, Geronimo aka Gerry, that Rosalie is taking care of play any part at all in solving this case? This quick moving story is short on plausible events/details, but it is an entertaining read.
Ok, so this is a fun little book to finish off the series. I kinda wish there were more books, but alas that is it. But I can hope.
In this book, Becky and her relationship with Houston is in the forefront as he has a relatively hot assistant working with him at the company. She gets pushed to her limits in order to ignore the jealousy of the working conditions. Also, once one of the blue bay cafe's cupcakes were used as a murder weapon, Becky is a little on edge the entire time. Rosalie is a little more adventurous than Becky and does push her quite a bit more in this book.
I do like how they some how got a dog in this book, but I find it very cute, and enjoyed how they used his in the story. It's a really good book.

OUNA BAY COZY MYSTERIES SERIES - BOOK 4 - PEANUT BUTTER CRUMBLE MURDER - BY DEANY RAY = 117 PAGES
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MYSTERY STORY. WITH ALL OF THE DRAMA GOING ON I FINALLY STARTED WONDERING ABOUT WHO I WAS THINKING THAT MIGHT HAVE COMMITTED THE MURDER. THEN BECKY AND ROSALIE GOT THE SAME IDEA. WHEN THEY STARTED INVESTIGATING THIS IDEA, I THOUGHT NO WAY WAS THAT RIGHT, BUT THEN THE MORE THEY INVESTIGATED THIS IDEA, THE BIG SURPRISE WAS THAT WE WERE ALL TOTALLY RIGHT. THIS IS THE LAST BOOK IN THIS SERIES. I FINISHED READING THIS E-BOOK ON 6/12/2024.
This was my least favorite of the Ouna Bay quartet. I found Rosalie and Dwight to be almost unbearable, and the multiple mentions of "snookie wookie" (and not in an ironic way) had me cringing. The mystery itself was alright, but I didn't feel that it was fleshed out enough to make us care about it early enough in the book. The addition of the dog seemed like it could have been a good thing, but I don't feel that it added enough to the story to be worth it. Unfortunately, I just really did not get along with this book. I received this book for free on BookFunnel and am leaving a review voluntarily.
Another good light, easy read. When a night out celebration ends in a death, she is shocked and bewildered. How could the dead man have one of her cupcakes? As if that wasn't enough, her partner has a new helper in the office (a model lookalike). Fearing for her business and reputation, she and her BFF start sleuthing. The things they turn up throw a new light on the case but will it be enough? Nice plot although not really hard to spot the culprit. The characters added a nice dimension to the read.
Well, you won’t think of food catering or cupcakes the same way again! Deany Ray needs to write a recipe book as a companion to this series! But the matter at hand is this new mystery. Becky seems to channel eerie events within her sphere that radiate out to those near and far. Another mysterious happenstance comes her way and she and her ever ready best friend/assistant are up to the task. These are powerful women, but they do have some partners that help out as well, not always happy campers though! Enjoy over a cup of tea!
Houston's company is throwing a celebration party for a couple who made a landmark deal to sell their for the first mall in Ouna bay. When the honoree is found dead with one of Becky's cupcakes in his hand. All eyes turn to her as she was not the caterer of the event.
While Becky and Rolalie investigate to save their business name. They uncover another crime from decades back.
Another story with well defined characters and a solid plot line along with a few unexpected twist.
Becky's famous Peanut Butter cupcake is the "murder weapon" in this case...so of course she's on the suspect list. With the help of Rosalie (and Dwight), she investigates to see who would use her cupcake to kill a seemingly innocent man...but was he all that innocent to begin with? Turns out, he's been hanging out in a shady bar, crying...Was he the target of the killer, or was someone just trying to ruin Becky's reputation? Houston jumps in as her lawyer, but he's working all hours to try to sort a deal gone awry with the victim's death. Quick, fun read. What will Becky and Rosalie get into next?
