Jeneva Markham, part of the Bear Council, has just learned she is unfit to have cubs for the clan. Armed with this knowledge, she plans to join a convent.
Rayner Garcia is Jeneva's brother's right hand man and crucial to the Bear Council. When he hears Jeneva's plan, he realizes how much he wants her as his own.
With all the roadblocks in their way, will Jeneva and Rayner finally come to an understanding that will keep Jeneva part of the Reserve Park Bear Council? And more importantly, will they find their happily ever after?
I liked the premise...a female bear shifter is told she has a genetic defect and should not mate or have cubs struggles to find a new direction for her life. The execution however was seriously lacking for me. When she first got the news Jeneva was devastated and wouldn't even consider the idea of going against the council's wishes...but when it came down to actually doing it, she didn't think twice about mating. Then there was Rayner thinking that for Jen to experience anything about the world she had to have sex...and then others agreed. And everything just happened so fast that you couldn't really get a feel for the characters and there wasn't enough explanation of the Den for everything to make sense. Just meh.
We meet a few members from the den. We meet the Alpha female on the day she is told that she cant mate. She feels terribale and is thinking of the man she loves and cant have. He also happens to be her brothers best friend. When he finally kisses her she freaks out and pushes everyone away. When she finally has the courage to face him again her best friend tells her that he thinks they are mate but she knows her mate is the other man. What will come from all this? Will she get her man? Will she be able to have cubs? Will she be able to keep her best friend? What will happen next?
Jeneva after being given the news she can't have cubs and shouldn't really mate is feeling pretty bad. Even more so as she wants Rayner but believes she can't have him. Especially with his past pain. She gets a little overwhelmed by everyone having a say on what she should do. The decision she makes isn't well received. But kicks a Rayner into action. But someone close to her isn't happy and doesn't want her to be with Rayner. This was a quick read and I got upset for Jeneva over having to rethink her life. The pain she was going through. Rayner well I wanted to slap some sense into him for believing the worse. But I could understand after what Lorna put him through. I do think that people should have got more involved at the bar and maybe Jeneva wouldn't have felt so betrayed. I do like the group in this as they seem quite tight and friendly. Let's see what happens next with this lot.
This was just all kinds of strange and not in a good way. I could not connect with any of the characters and struggled with Jeneva's plight of being unfit to have children and Rayner stepping in to claim her!! The back-stabbing friends just screamed teenage lies/angst. Unfortunately, not for me.
Read as part of the Alpha's Undone Collection. Copy gifted for an honest review.
There was no character connection and it was all over writing wise. The random premise of someone being able to tell you you can't have kids and then thinking there's nothing else in life for you was no okay. It came off very bad. :/
nice story until a few pages before the end - the reunion of the H and the h was rushed and unbelievable considering what they went through before. The story just needed more pages.
2.5 stars This book had a lot of potential. I liked that there was betrayal and conflict. However, there was just something missing. At times, things were just a bit rushed and unbelievable. There were times I just didn't like the characters. But at the same time, I was pulling for them to get together.
