It’s two weeks before Christmas, and a young girl’s body is found on the Edinburgh coastline, a knife rammed into her eye. She’s wearing earrings worth thousands of pounds. DI Frank Miller and his team discover the earrings were part of a haul from a jewellery store robbery. The girl has been listed as missing from Birmingham. So how did she end up dead on an Edinburgh beach? An Edinburgh resident is found dead in a cemetery, a knife rammed into her eye. What is her connection to the dead runaway? As Miller investigates, the killer is working to an agenda and this is going to be one Christmas that Frank Miller and his team are never going to forget… * NOTE – The timeline of this story takes place after the events in Rain Town, but can be read as a standalone. *
John Carson is the author of the DI Frank Miller detective series. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and lived there most of his life. In 2006, he emigrated to New York State with his American wife and two daughters. They now live in a small town in the Hudson Valley where his wife was brought up, with a German Shepherd, a Beagle mix and four cats.
I enjoyed this book - however, I thought from the previous book that Jimmy Gilmour had been made to leave the team at Percy’s request due to the issues with his ex-wife and yet in this book it says about him being in the team still?! A bit of an issue with continuity there!
Totally entertaining book. I'm am liking the Frank Miller series even better than the Harry McNeil series, and I am finding that quite eye-opening! The reason for 4 stars is that I was terribly disappointed in the ending. Mr. Carson usually devotes a chapter or two to address personal issues of the characters after the murder is solved. Here, with baited breath, I turned the page to read the next chapter...and there wasn't one. Totally unacceptable once you know what was to come!
Edit: Having started Book Six, I am quite upset that Mr. Carson completely glossed over the one thing I have been waiting for. I'd give this book 3 stars but I feel guilty doing that simply because I was denied reading about "the event." Book Six starts out as if it was no big deal. GRRRRRR.
Don't expect a straight forward ending always more complicated than it seems! The plot is delicately turned and twisted. Enjoyable series - worth the read.
It's Christmas in Edinburgh and young girls are being found murdered . This is quite the mystery with fingers being pointed at one person . A devious plan based on greed. Entertaining in spite of the circumstances .
John Carson’s writing is ALWAYS a good bet. The originality of his plots is astounding! The two series out of the five he has are amazing in their deft layout of each story, but this one really kept me guessing to the huuuuge surprising end.
This series is improving with each book. The characters are being developed nicely. This story line was less convoluted than previous books but I still didn’t figure out who the bad guy was.
It's Christmas and Frank and Kim are dating. He's pulled into an investigation of a girl found dead with a knife through her eye...then another woman is found dead in a cemetary...how are they linked.
The main detective is DI Frank Miller and is set in Edinburgh. I read this on the Kindle which was a bit difficult for the first in the series as there are a lot of different characters and the Kindle makes it difficult to go back and check who is who. However, still really enjoyed it.
