A Susan Stoker Special Forces Kindle World Novella

When a severe concussion sustained on a mission in Egypt equals a discharge for one-time soccer super star turned Delta Force IT expert, Terrance "Trigger" O'Leary, he spends half a year drunk, and in more strange beds than even he is willing to admit.

After wandering back home to Lucasville, Kentucky he's hired by his old friend, now the principal of the local high school. Honestly believing that his new job as soccer coach and part time bartender will be all he needs to fix himself, he’s determined to leave everything about his old life behind.

But a chance encounter at a karaoke bar turns into a smoking hot hook-up with a woman whose deep mocha skin and hypnotic singing voice turns him inside out. A woman he's a little surprised to meet again the next day—Mariah Bailey, recent winner of "Singers,” a national talent competition, and the high school’s new music teacher.

When terrifying, inexplicable violence rips the sleepy community apart, Trigger must leap back into action— which forces Mariah to accept his feelings about her, and the fact that even he can't always save the day.

So WOW I managed to devour this in an afternoon, so much happens that you literally cannot stop the pages from turning. Our Hero and heroine have certainly known heartache, Terry lost his mother and then brother and then is discharged from the only family he has left, the Delta team after suffering a horrific concussion, he stumbles along with his life until he realises there is more to life than his pity party! that and our friend Ghost gives him hell and keeps checking in...once a soldier always a soldier! Once he returns home he meets Mariah, a single mother who has suffered her own share of heartbreak, a worthless ex husband who left her with a new born, a mother who makes her feel quilt for the life she now has and having to give up her singing career dream, not really knowing how proud her family is of her! so 2 heartbroken souls who are so attracted to each other that it scares them and Mariah runs, we see how Terry works to win her trust and open up to a relationship with him, its all going well until Mariah cannot accept Terry's love.Fast forward 5 months and suspense kicks in, all is not well at the high school and after facing a traumatic situation our hero and heroine are reunited. We are invited to read more by the author which will explain more of what happens at the school and the aftermath, I am very intrigued so will definitely be reading more, the book doesn't end on a cliffhanger though as our couple do get to be together. Highly recommend a great addition to Susan Stoker's Delta team series

I am new to Liz Crowe and read her due to a Kindle World special project with one of my all time favorite authors Susan Stoker. All I can say is WOW. Marking Mariah tells about Stoker’s Delta team member Trigger who had to leave due to a brain injury. It details his journey from who he was to who he wanted to be. Mariah is someone who has had a hard life and is trying to make a better one but is scared and scarred. Both have serious issues to overcome. Crowe’s writing is realistic, gritty, but oh so funny. She puts her people in situations that allow them to shine brightly…this can be good or bad. But ultimately it is real. Her highs are great but she does lows better than a lot of authors I’ve read. My only complaint for this novella would be the length. Seeing what Crowe did in a novella I would love the see the growth of these two characters in a full length novel. I have already one-clicked the Love Brother’s series which the books is based with. Thank you for such a great book.

Trigger (Terry) is a sorry son of a gun. Wasting away after having shrapnel in his head which causes him to be released from the military.
Mariah the winner of "Singers", gave up the opportunity for stardom to raise her son and "get a real job" according to her parents.
With a chance encounter at a karaoke bar, they meet for the first time. They hook up and find that they have great chemistry. But the morning after makes all kinds of doubts surface.
Mariah starts her new job at the local high school as a singing teacher only to find out that Terry is also employed there as a soccer coach. How can they be in the same place without combustion happening? Not easily.
When the school is under siege Terry will do everything in his power to save the girl he loves. And acknowledge everything that he has been trying so hard to dismiss, His love for Mariah.
Great reading, thanks Liz for a great book.

I have to say, I LOVE this Kindle World stuff! I love reading other author's stories with the same characters I know. It makes it feel like the world is a little bit smaller and my family is getting a little bit bigger.

This story was a very good read. I liked how Liz Crowe interweaved Ghost's character in with Terry (Trigger)'s story. Trigger may have been headed down the hard path, but he knew something was missing and he was trying to figure out how to get out of the hole he put himself into. Mariah came along just in the right time and even though they had their issues, they both deserved their HEA.

I don't remember ever reading anything else by Liz Crowe, but you can bet, she's got herself a brand new fan here.

Marking Mariah by Liz Crowe is another story in Susan Stoker's Kindle World and although I have heard of Liz Crowe for a while now, this is my first read by her and what a treat it was! Her writing style is beautiful, her descriptions are vivid but not overdetailed . The main characters, Terry and Mariah, are wonderful and the chemistry between them is off the charts.

The author manages to describe both their backgrounds and feelings and you want them to be happy. Mariah's child is also wonderful! I cannot wait to read more about this series!

Terry left his small town to escape his pain, but after an injury while serving in the military, he goes home again in need of a job.

Mariah had her shot at singing stardom but leaves the bright lights to care for her young son. In need of a job, she heads to the school run by one of the Love Brothers, who gives her a job as a music teacher.

When Terry and Mariah come together, they find peace...from the pain in his head and the doubts in her soul.

Ms. Crowe weaves a tale of passion, friendship and romance where the characters come alive to the reader. I enjoyed getting to reconnect with my friends from The Love Brothers' series as well as meet new characters from Susan Stoker's Special Forces books. Yet it was the characters themselves with tugged at my heart.

I've been in Mariah's shoes, dealing with the cutting remarks and disappointment of a parent. Sometimes those wounds take a long time to heal. And as a teacher, I could connect with Mariah's sense of overwhelming pressure about curriculum and being the best.

This story is a must read for fans of exciting action, killer characters and sizzling passion!

Terrance "Trigger" O'Leary is as low as a man can go.
He's at rock bottom.
Drinking his days away and slumming the nights away with whatever is willing to leave the bar with his over intoxicated self.
Due to a head injury he's out of Delta Force and on his own.
Finally he decides he needs to get his head on straight.
This leads him home.
It also leads him to Mariah.
Mariah's new in town, moved with her son for a new job. She's not a one night stand kinda girl, she's responsible, and lonely. She hasn't been with a man in years, thanks to the damage her ex did to her and focusing on raising her son and finishing school.
A twist of fate puts the two together in the same bar an sparks fly. Against her better judgement she leaves with him. Her brain is back an forth about it, but eventually her body wins and she goes for it.

Now their one night stand isn't exactly that, not once they come face to face at work. Things could get complicated!!

Loved this short read. I do believe Liz Crowe has a new fan.

My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

You can get out of here. I don’t need your help, since your help always comes with a helping of guilt and a side order of smug.

Batman doesn’t have powers, Mama… He’s just a sad man with a lot of weapons.

Now if you don’t mind, I am a trained killer and we trained killers must eat on a regular schedule. My kind of ‘hangry’ is something you don’t want to experience.

My Review:

Being unfamiliar with this genre and series, I wasn’t sure what to expect - I was pleasantly surprised. Marking Mariah was a quick, entertaining, steamy heart squeeze with periodic hits of humor among the angst. But honestly, I would expect no less from the talented Liz Crowe.

This was a new author to me but loved the book. Those of you that have read Susan Stoker books this contains some old friends. This book deals with Trigger and his search to get his life back on track. It does leave a lot of questions. Mariah was a superstar in the making until real life called her home. she and Trigger met up one night and neither can forget that night. They do find each other again and the story builds from there. Great book,

I have not read the Special Forces series but, this story makes me want to!

In true Liz Crowe fashion, this story has character, grit, and so much emotion! The characters have true to life issues that make them more human and believable.

I was so excited to see one of my favorite Crowe families, the Love family, again!

I think this story will be a great addition to the Special Forces world!

This book is simply GREAT!! I have never read this author before, but she is an awesome writer!! I'm gong to look into her books with these characters.

This book is so good! It captured me at word 1 and just kept me into it. I didn't want to put it down at all. I had to see what would happen next. The characters were snarky and they were also HOT in their chemistry.

Liz Crowe did an awesome job!!!!

I am new to Liz Crowe books and she didn't disappoint. It was great seeing favorite characters from the Delta Forces and the continued alpha male. and in true stroker type style delivered a great but all to real damsel in distress situation. trigger is trying to make the best of his situation and refinding himself in the world. a common problem military personnel have when they leave the service. well done.

I loved this book. It was strange at first reading Susan Stoker's characters written by another author but I needn't have worried as she did a great job. The story was entertaining and gripping, especially that last chapter. It looks like I've got a new author to follow as I want to find out more about those Love brothers.

Wow, part of Stoker's Kindle world and the Love family, this book takes off from the first page and carries the reader on the edge of his seat to the end.

This was a cool book about Terry who is ex-Delta force turned soccer coach and Mariah the winner of a music competition turned music teacher and mother who meet and start a relationship. Of course this doesn't come easy and they both make mistakes but when a life altering event puts Mariah's life in danger they both realize that they are meant to be.

Another short but sweet novella

Terry O'Leary loved being in Delta Forces but when an ambush gives him a traumatic brain injury he's forced to medically retire. Not handling his new life well Terry turns to booze and women. When he finally finds himself in a situation with an unknown woman with a kid, he decides to quit cold turkey and go home.

Mariah won a singing show but when her mom reminds her of her son instead of taking the coaches offer, she goes home. When she finishes her master's degree she takes a job in a nearby town that will allow her to meet Terry the new soccer coach. There will be tension, misunderstanding a proposal that could mean a change between Terry, Mariah and little Coles life's forevee

This book is Trigger and Mariah's story.

I liked this book but I just felt like it was flipped. I felt like we spent so much time leading up to them meeting. It was all their back story. Once they meet, we seem to fast forward quickly and then when we get to the event at the end which could have been so much more descriptive it felt like it was over in 4 pages.

This is a new author for me. I loved this book. A second chance at life, for two deserving people. One who lost everything while serving his country, the other one who had to give up her dream. Will they be able to save each other? Will an unexpected turn of events take that choice away?

Good read

Terry met Mariah at a bar where she was singing. He fell for her big time, but she wanted to go slow. They were both working as teachers at the high school. One day some teenagers came in carrying guns and started shooting up the gym.

Real characters, charming town, alpha-hero!
I'm just letting you know that Terry could be a good, or a very bad thing for you. by Kieran Love

Terry can't keep anything! First he lost his twin brother, then he lost his soccer player career and now he has been discharged by the military. What is left out there for him?

Mariah had big dreams for herself. But life snuck up on her and sweep away her dreams with a dose of responsibility. Now she is stuck in between love and burden, the onus and bonus of life choices. Could she dare  dreaming big again?

Marking Mariah blends two author's known book series; Liz Crowe idyllic small-town setting and Susan Stoker's special force unit; and creates a charming novella with what could become a new path for those series.

Ms. Crowe's has cohesively created a fast-paced story with emotional characters and a good plot. Like with most novellas, I've ended up wanting to know the characters better. I have already marked down both series that have given birth to this novella into my to-read book piles, hoping that I will learn more about them.

All characters are complex, with depth and their own emotional turmoil. They feel real, like they could be any of us,  or our friends and families. Everything in the story was very credible and has happened once or twice to most of us. I completely understood and relate to this tale.

This a story of family, friendship and love. What I did not expect was the bit of cliffhanger at the end. Ms. Crowe, I hope the next story comes soon! I will be waiting for it. Until then, I will be reading all the Love's books because I fell in love with that charming little town.
I told you before you left-you will never stop being Delta. Once an Operator, always an Operator. by Ghost

P.S: This is a great book cover. It tells the reader part of the story to be read. We can see a man forged by an athletic career as a soccer player, and we can see the military upbringing in his posture, scars, hair and glasses. We could also guess that he is definitely a hot alpha-male!
You MAY buy this book because you enjoy Ms. Stoker's book series; you SHOULD get this book if you like the Love brothers; but you MUST read this book if you dig tales of love, family and friends!!! 4

I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

"Trigger" O'Leary's life isn't turning out as he'd hoped. Once a college bound soccer star with hopes and dreams, only to be shattered when his twin brother commits suicide while in college. Terry suffers another tragedy when his mom dies of cancer around the same time. To escape his hometown and tragedy, he enlists and excels to become a Delta Force IT guy. While on a mission overseas, he's involved in an explosion that almost kills him. He's honorably discharged and doesn't deal with it well. He sleeps with numerous women and drinks to excess. Trying to pull his life back together, he returns home to the dad who doesn't really consider him his son anymore. Kieran, Terry's best friend from elementary school takes a chance on him and hires him as the new High School Soccer Coach.

Mariah, also unlucky in love and life, leaves behind a trail of broken dreams. She thought she had married the man of her dreams, until she became pregnant and he left her. She then tries out for a national singing contest and wins! But her mom guilts her into returning home to raise her son. After earning a music degree, Mariah applies for a job as a music teacher and is hired by Kieran.

Mariah and Terry meet at a local bar on karaoke night. Terry doesn't know Mariah, as he was stationed overseas, but everyone else does...Urged by her new friends, she decides to have a no-names fling--with Terry. One night was all it took for Terry to "fall" and he's very upset he didn't even get her name....They are later introduced to each other by Kieran (the Principal), who doesn't know they've already "met". Mariah's trying to start a new life and doesn't need any distractions, until she can't ignore Terry anymore. Cole, Mariah's son, has also bonded with Terry. Even though Mariah wants/needs/loves Terry, she stills pushes him away.

The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger. The school is plagued by troubled students and a few of those students storm the school with guns. Trigger jumps into action....So as not to spoil the ending, it does end with someone getting their HEA. It was action packed and very entertaining. I didn't see the ending coming! A recommended read, especially if you've read Liz Crowe's Love series. BTW, Ghost and Fletch make appearances in this novella! Yay!

After Terrance "Trigger" O'Leary was injured and medically discharged from his Delta Force team, he loses him self to drinking and random hook ups. Taking his time to go back to his home town. When he finally gets there he is able to meet up with old friends and get a roof over his head and land a job.
Mariah left home to enter and win a national singing competition. But the night she won she gets a call reminding her of her need back home. Coming home and finishing college to get a job that will get her some independence from her family is a goal she strives for and achieves. After moving she makes friends some of her neighbor and they are excited they now have a secret weapon for karaoke night.
Little did Mariah know say yes to karaoke would change her life.
Will Terry and Mariah hit it off? Or will either of their pasts keep them from being willing to be open to the other?
This is part of Susan Stokers Men of Protection series. This the first book I have read from Liz Crowe, but I am looking forward to reading the series of her she crossed over with.

Delta operator Trigger has spent more than half a year lost and wandering the world after being injured overseas. Desperate to find himself again, he goes home to Kentucky after getting a job as a soccer coach at his old high school, thanks to a childhood friend who is now the principal. On one of his first nights back in town, he meets a Mariah in a karaoke bar and the connection is both immediate and intense. Flash forward and the pair are reunited when they find that they are both going to be working at the same high school. But things are never simple and when violence threatens their world, will Trigger be able to save the day?

Enjoyable story. I really liked the characters, they were well thought out and I really enjoyed the interactions between Mariah, Cole and Trigger. Nice to see the sneak peaks of some awesome Deltas in the story too.

They are two strangers in need of love and acceptance for one-night-only. Their encounter leaves them both deeply moved. Mariah with her tender heart and miraculous voice. Terry with his damaged soul searching for love and acceptance. They never imagined they would end up working together at the local high school. Terry as the new soccer coach and Mariah in charge of the chorus.

They both share one thing in common ... dreams that were almost real, but could never be. Terry as a soccer player is now a long forgotten dream after his severe injuries as a Seal. Mariah, having won a huge competition, has to refuse a recording contract because she is a single mother and must take care of her young son.

Do not miss this gripping, emotional book as these two characters fight for each other. Once a Seal always a Seal, Terry will move all obstacles to make sure Mariah is safe.

I love this author's style of writing, and I was so glad to finally pick up another one of her books. Her books always have real life issues in them, and they always make the reader experience a range of emotions.
In this book, we meet one of Kieran Love's best friends, Terrance 'Trigger' O'Leary. If you have read the Love Brothers series, then you know who I am talking about when I say Kieran Love.
Anyway, Terry has been discharged from the Army due to an injury and he returns home in the hopes of finding a job. Upon arriving back home, he finds some things are the same from when he left but there are also some major changes.
He meets Mariah at the Love Pub. After an amazing night, he sets about trying to find her again, only to find her where he least expects to.

Delta Force IT expert, Terrance "Trigger" O'Leary meets Mariah Bailey while he is drinking in a bar and she is signing karoke. The love story between these two people is heartrending and from the beginning i was hoping that they would get their HEA. When i found out Mariah had to give up her dreams I had so much respect for her and knew that she was the perfect woman to love Trigger. What I loved about this story was that it was relatable and that I could believe it. The plot made sense and the characters were real. Whether you wanted to root for them or hated them, it was real. I am glad that i was introduced to the author and she will definitely be one to read more on. Plus the ending made me have to read the next book to find out what happens.

I always look forward to new books from her and this part of the Love Brothers (Lucasville, KY) stories do to me what each of her books always does...touches my heart, my soul and most especially my mind.
