Rock star. Guitar God. Star of those sexy online videos. My stepbrother.
And I hate him.
My stepdad left five million dollars up for grabs when he died, and my student loan debt means I must come out the winner. Even if it means playing dirty with Bret, who's been making my life miserable since we were kids.
Ninety days. Five million dollars. One thing standing in my way--a wickedly hot attraction to my sworn enemy.
Bret Starling, you've met your match.
Note from Kristen: This book, "Dirty Little Secret" was originally published as "Work For It: Not Exactly A Stepbrother Romance" by Allyson Starr.
Kristen Strassel is far cooler than she’ll make herself sound in this bio. She enjoys spending time with the voices in her head—nudging the characters toward those bad decisions and a happily ever after. When she’s not writing, she’s often still in the land of make-believe—doing makeup for film and television. And when she’s not doing any of that, she enjoys making her house look like a Pinterest board, watching football, and road trips to the middle of nowhere.
Blurb: Not exactly a stepbrother romance. I’d never fall for the bastard. More like a challenge–and I’m going to win. Anyway… My stepdad left me and his son an inheritance. Sort of. Whoever needs it most gets the money. I trust you’ll do the right thing. That’s what the will said. Had he ever met his son? Bret’s done nothing but make my life miserable since we were kids. I have no job, and I’m up to my eyeballs in student loan debt. Bret’s been on tour in Europe with his heavy metal band for the last two years. He still has the nerve to cry poor mouth and says he’s going to make me work for the money. Oh yeah? My stepbrother is a sick, twisted, sinfully hot bastard… and I’m going to do whatever it takes to get that money. Warning: Contains adult everything. Don’t tell my mom. It’s all for a good cause–the almighty dollar.
OMG! So sexy! Parts of this story were sweet but, this is mostly sexier than hell! Absolutely loved this book beyond most of the "step sibling" books that I have read. Now, if you will excuse me, I am off to read another one! <3
“…the look in his eyes was completely raw. Vulnerable. Maybe he was trying to trick me, but this was no power play. I could see right into his soul.”
Holy hotness, Batman!!
This was a scorching forbidden romance read, which was also great fun.
Gemma grew up with her stepbrother, Bret, when her mum married Bret’s father when she was still a little girl. However, it was a bit of a hate-hate relationship, and they barely keep in touch now that they are adults.
Bret is a heavy metal rocker. He’s wild, uninhibited and a complete manwhore.
When Gemma’s father unexpectedly passes away, Bret is called back home. A weird stipulation made by their father on who inherits a cool five million dollars sets in motion a forbidden, lust-filled summer of secret bedroom sessions and encounters between the step-siblings. The threat of discovery and scandal only fuels their attraction. However, things are complicated when their ‘just sex’ power play arrangement starts to turn into something more – something impossible between them.
I thought this was a fab, sexy read. Bret pushes Gemma completely out of her comfort zone, testing her boundaries to the limit, and forcing her to face things about herself that she has never acknowledged, as well as explore her own sexuality. Told from Gemma’s POV, Bret is something of a dark horse but his desire for Gemma is palpable and completely magnetic. I absolutely need more Gemma and Bret soon!
When you hear Work for It - it doesn't really scream hot and sexy read but let me tell you - THIS IS ONE HOT BOOK. Allyson's first steps into the world of erotica are more like leaps and bounds. She knocked it out of the park with her first book in the genre.
When an inheritance is left to Bret and Gemma and they have to "outlast" each other to see who earns it, who will be the first to give in or the first to lose their heart?
Bret is a sexy as all get out man-whore who has given Gemma a hard time most of her life. He's always teased her mercilessly and he takes the teasing to a whole new level with the inheritance on the line.
Gemma has always watched her step-brother from afar and wondered about his rock star life. How he lived, what he did, his sexcapades....she always wanted to know. Now, it's literally in her face.
What happens when they're both pushed beyond their limits? Will their hearts become involved or will it just remain a competition to see who can "win"? You don't want to miss out on this "not exactly a step brother romance".
It was amazing story BUTTT you'll need the next book when this ends not really a cliffhanger but close. Very very step siblings romances I've read when both parents are very loving and this is right up there but one had passed away but you can still feel the love for the his departed father. I did see a few spelling errors but easily overlooked. There is a lot of switching but mostly he is the dominate of the two in the bedroom or in public. Gem grieves for her loved step dad but there will be a competition of sorts between Gemma and Bret to see who can win in their antics for 5 million dollars, their father's will said for who ever needed the money badly enough can have it, and no splitting it, why would he have a clause like that is he loved both children equally? I hope the next one has more is these two closeted lovers together and being in love then about him being with another to help Gem out for her dreams of a wild life sanctuary.
Let me start off by saying stepbrother books aren't my thing. At all. I read it because I've heard of Kristen and wanted to check out one of her books. I'm glad I did. Overlooking the stepbrother part of it, the story flowed and it was well written. The sex was HOT and it was a great read.
He surely was HOT as was the entire story, but it did end on a cliff, which I found very disappointing; I expected better. But overall it was kind of fun and naughty.
I love this book. The theory that there is something wrong with step siblings falling in love is so twisted. They are not blood relations but strangers thrust into a family setting. But off my soapbox... lol.
This story follows the love that builds between Bret and Gemma. It's not an easy love story and it's not your "average" love story but it is still beautiful and well written.
