The Russian Mercenary known as Boris has always been a conundrum for governments the world over. His visage never changes, his capabilities never understood.

The Russian government gets word he has been killed on a mercenary mission in America, allowing agents to come in and attack the villages Boris has been protecting. Using a fanatical military sub-group in the Russian military, the atrocities start.

The only problem? Boris isn't dead, and now he has help.

Boris won't allow his people to go unprotected, and now the Queen Bitch herself has accepted his oath of fealty.

Russia doesn't have a clue what they have started when this Bear comes back from the Dead.

**Please note, as mentioned in a review on a book in the main series, there is flagrantly foul language in these novels. The main character does not have a problem with cussing, just uninspired cussing.

I was born on Remembrance day, I was early. My mother wanted me to be born at 11, but the doctors delivered me at 9:30. I’m contrary like that. My childhood was shaped by a bout of meningitis, that was diagnosed by my grandmother over the phone. She was one of her generation's few female doctors. The effects of which, including loss of fine motor control, would shape the rest of my life. Proving you can still be a writer with bad handwriting, but not bad enough for me to follow in her footsteps and become a doctor.

I may not be a surgeon now, but I still like sharp things. Swords are my thing, and I studied Iaijutsu, and a plethora of other martial arts, with and without blades. Not in the serial killer kind of way, but more of a curious enthusiast. Also the blunted weapons, gotta have a bit of a thump. Tie that in with 15 years of medieval reenactment (and no I don’t mean ren-fair) and studying history and psychology at uni. I’ve got a lot of knowledge built around weaponry, tactics and military history.

I spent some time in cadets, and a lot more around soldiers and ex-soldiers. I learnt how to shoot, gun safety, camping, how to march, how to navigate with a map and compass (forget that GPS stuff) and other basic military skills, like how to make a verse in a marching tune about each individual in the unit. Hopefully some of that comes across in the realism I put into the more military oriented books.

I’m always working on several fictional worlds simultaneously, including a collaboration with Michael Anderle. Some of my works have been published, maybe more by the time you’re reading this, while hundreds more pages are lying orphaned in my incomplete folders. So, I’m generally working on three books (at least) at any one time. One day they’ll all be out there for you to read. In the meantime I’m living in a regional town in Australia, with a day's drive to the nearest capital city.

Right now I live at home with my partner of eight years, and between novels I’m a full time carer. I’m completing my bachelors degree with a major is philosophy, and right now I’m applying that learning to the deep question of whether a self-published author can survive on more than cat food. This is a terribly important question, as I have two beagles to feed. I am wary of bumps in the house due to my partner’s severe epilepsy. The nurse beagles assist me in keeping an ear out enthusiastically… oh so enthusiastically… in this.

Werebears in Russia!!!

So, still going. But this one is about Boris. Boris is a werebear. Kinda like a werewolf but a bear. This guy got caught on the wrong side and was part of the team that attacked the Colorado compound. But he switched sides when he found out they were kidnapping and harming kids.

Boris is also Russian. He is committed to protecting a small village. These people believe that one day the czar and czarina will one day return and do not support the present government. The village is attacked by the Russian government and Bethany Anne gets involved. The Queen Bitch is perfect for this village and they overthrow the attackers and join her. Many stay behind to help try to keep the peace.

This is a spin off from the kurenthian series. It's pretty good. Easy to read easy to follow. Kinda suits my mood at the moment. Also it's just nice to see the down trodden fight back and win. Enjoy!

I thought this was a new series, based on another series, and it is .. sorta... but if you haven't read the The Kurtherian Gambit series, don't read this one first. Because you wont understand whats going on and who the characters are. and if your like me and only read 8 of the 14 books in the series you will have spoilers.

Great, but...

There is a big difference between "Let's eat, Grandma!" and "Let's eat Grandma!" Guess which sentence Grandma prefers. Also, nipples instead of ripples? And no one caught that? Finally, if a quote by one person spans more than one paragraph then each paragraph has an opening quote but only the final paragraph has a closing quote. After a closing quote mark the next opening quote mark denotes that a different person is speaking. Not following this convention gets some readers very confused. There were also a miniscule amount of other typos (such as misplaced commas or missing periods). This was a great read, otherwise.

Decent first attempt for this Universe

I wouldn’t call this a stand alone novel. More of a short story addition. The author does well in incorporating his take on the Kutherian Universe meshing it with Anderle’s view.

I did find the it a little slow and maybe focused on the fighting a tad much for my tastes. I would classify this as a military style book with a touch of sci-if/fantasy to it.

Boris has the potential to be a very interesting character since he’s been around for hundreds of years and isn’t a vampire-like enhanced human. That he seems to draw on and can sense Etheric energy could make him a very useful person in the upcoming war with the aliens.

That he is able to develop his Pricolici human-animal hybrid form without using rage, is very interesting as well. Does that mean that there is a third alien set of nanocytes on Earth? He is more then most Weres, aged much longer, has the alternative ability to trigger his hybrid form and that he was born to a Were, makes him a very unique individual and likely points to another set of aliens interacting in the humans past.

I did want the story to be longer. It dropped off without tying up enough, and left way too many questions open ended.

An okay first attempt though for this author, especially as he is writing in another author’s playground.

I was really glad to read this first Boris book, as the mention of him in Michael Anderle's Kurtherian series had got me wondering what his story was - and now, thanks to Paul Middleton, I'm learning fast!

I love the idea of a Russian Pricolici, especially as a Bear. The idea of a Siberian bear just fits somehow.

When Boris sat in the doorway of that school bus, determined to protect the children inside, I kind of fell in love with him, and with that gentleness he showed to the young, and his determination to keep them safe.

So, reading about his life, once he had returned to the town of those he had also sworn to protect, was wonderful, and I'm very much looking forwards to reading more about how he's going to mix his service to his own people, along with his service with Bethany Anne - and how things might progress with Jenna, too!

Well written and pulled me in

I enjoyed reading this story and it was nice to see more about what happened with Boris and his people in Russia.

It was disheartening to think that such internal strife might have / be happening over there in real life, and I really hope things are better now for the folks in Russia than they were say 20 years ago.

As for the story, it has pulled me in and now I need to read the rest of the books in this series! The characters are interesting, believable and I have to know how things work out for them.

Evacuation World of the Kuthurian Gambit World.

Boris is a long-Lived Were Bear (Say THAT fast Five times), a Russian Merc that has taken responsibility of a Russian village and an extensive Were community in Siberia. He has protected multiple generations of the area by Contracting out his military skills and training leading a mercenary unit, rolling his wages and equipment into supporting that area.

I am still way behind with my book reviews so here is another three in one review. This time for the first three books in The Boris Chronicles, another side-story in the Kurtherian universe.

To me these books are a fun, straightforward read. It takes a couple of characters at the time just before The Queen Bitch herself leaves Earth in The Kurtherian Gambit and spins a story around them. It is a simple story and a fairly fast read but it does add a few more details to the Kurtherian universe.

I did feel that the writing in these books was closer to the writing in the original series than, for instance, the books by Martha R. Carr. I like Michael Anderle’s writing so for me this is a good thing.

As usual with books in this universe it all centers around a few very likable and very kick-ass characters. In this case the main protagonist is of course Boris, a very likable werebear. The bad guys are made up of elements of the Russian government who are even more criminal, corrupt and despicable than the average Russian politician. And, just for good measure, the author also throws in a few old-fashioned vampires to round of the bad-guy menagerie.

The Queen Bitch herself is actually part of the story. She and her closest ass-kickers are involved in a fair part of the story which, to me, is another plus.

There are also a few twists, discoveries and revelations, including the introduction of another character that is, well, let’s just say that she is not entirely human and comes with a history to avoid any spoilers here. I guess these twists may or may not have an influence on future books in the Kurtherian universe, whether they are side stories or not, depending on where Michael wants to go.

If you liked any of the previous books in the Kurtherian universe then you will probably like these ones as well. It is a nice well paced roller coaster ride with plenty of wise-ass comments, action and ass-kicking. Oh, and of course some language not suited for the easily offended.

Papa Bear

I really enjoyed seeing how things went for Boris. It was written well with only a couple typos which to me had no effect on the enjoyment of the story and will enjoy reading the next in the series.

Great plot. Well written. Good background on the werebear mercenary that saved the kids. Paul did a great job adding to Michael's universe.

More Boris please?

I always wanted to know more about Boris. He was an interesting undeveloped character in the Kutherian Gambit, in which book I can't remember. Now I have to decide whether I should continue with the Boris books or continue with Bethany Anne.

Good addition to the universe!

This is a good addition to the Kurtherian Gambit universe. It adds more detail to the awesome character of Boris the werebear and ties into the main story line perfectly. I will continue to read this and finish the series. I recommend it.

It was refreshing to see things from a different perspective. The Russian/Siberian issue is one that has been ongoing for a century at least. Being able to see what they do with the opportunity in the Etheric Empire is really cool.

WHOOSH

This is what it felt like reading this book, like I was rushing HEADLONG into the story. The action, the speed, the DRAMA. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I love all the characters here, and the concern they have for each other.

Loved it

I'm so excited to read about Boris. He was briefly in a book that saved all the children on the bus and we knew he had a relationship with Michael. Now we get to see what happens after the fight at the Colorado Base

Boris is a good character, a little dry compared to others in the series but he has a huge heart and is steadfast in protecting those in his charge.
