Horrible
Are you kidding me!!! Is it my turn now??? The love of your life leaves you for your best friend. You go crazy. 20 years later oops she made a mistake she was loving the wrong life leaves him for another guys and you step in!!! I need to go wash my brain out NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS IS THIS OK!!! And they haven't been separated for years nope said best friend is catfishing some dude on fb they go to NY and she decides to stay... my head hurts.. it's literally exploding... then she tells the h go be happy... do real (my eyes are rolling so far to the back of my head) like you stole him in high school but 20 years later you're done and she can have him back... am I crazy this isn't a romance he picked the other girl and old went back when said other girl left him!!! Kate has to be the most selfish character EVER she's not a friend or a wife or a mother... she only cares about herself

The length of the book just wasn't long enough to effect a breakup (of the H's marriage) and the make up of H and h. It just was so wrong and made me feel slightly nauseous it was so seedy. The neat swap out of partners just came across cheap.
We're supposed to buy into the karmic cycle plot, with the H getting back with the h after so many years. They all came across like a bunch of shallow people. Shallow teenagers are one thing, shallow grown-ups a no no.

County Girls had me drawn into the story from the first few pages. Tressa Messenger makes her characters seem so life like and that is what I love about her books. Marissa is the main character but she has three really good friends all through high school. They promise to keep in touch after graduation but life doesn't always work out the way we want it too. Marissa leaves with a secret that she doesn't want anyone to know. But when she goes back for the class reunion, memories come back about high school and the guy who was her first true love, who is now her best friends husband. You just never know how strong feelings will come back when you go back home.
Marissa has flash backs to those days when she was in high school and some of the memories are sizzling! County girls is a very well written love story that makes you live the story right with the characters page by page. This story could happen to any one of us reading it. That's what I love about Tressa Messenger books, the stories are believable and not far fetched. County Girls is worth the read and I will be reading this over and over again. It is very well written that I lost myself within the book, and I hope you do too.

County Girl is a beautiful love story, with passionate characters who find themselves facing all the fears, hurts, and secrets they had buried twenty years ago. I really enjoyed the story, I loved the realness of the plot and the idea of living a life that was not meant for you was truly powerful! One decision to sacrifice your own happiness can lead you down a deep dark path or a choice to take what never really was yours can leave you feeling lost, it's a powerful thing and you can't help but sympathize with the characters as they try to sort things out, putting everything just it was meant to be. One of my favorite quotes: "We only have this one life to live you know and it is up to us to live it and make our own selves happy and I'm ready for it" - Katie to Marissa

Tressa Messenger did a great job with this one. These County Girls are a hoot. Pamlico County sounds beautiful and I'd love to visit there some day. She describes it with such detail. The book is about love, friendship, sacrifice, and new beginnings. Even though this is a New Adult book it's not focused on sex alone it has a sweet story mixed in. I enjoyed this book very much!

In Tressa Messenger's "Hometown Girls - Reunion" also titled County Girls...I found this to be a true depiction of life in North Carolina. In Chapter Ten, the writer states "Of course. I’m from the south, remember? I’ve spent most of my life barefoot. County girls are pretty tough like that. A County girl is so much more. She is a sweet southern belle from my home county in North Carolina. We were raised with manners, saying ma’am and sir and please and thank you, but hurt one of our kin and all manners go out the window. We are simple, loyal people who live free and play hard. I spent most of my life hanging out with friends around a bonfire, and hunting, fishing, and swimming in the creek down the road from my house, and mudding with my four-wheeler. But come Sunday we are southern belles all over again. It’s really more a way of life, rather than a culture.”
The social culture is spot on, the reference in Chapter 12 of sweet tea, why are southerners addicted to "sweet tea"? It is more a case of "would you like some tea with your serving of sugar", no offence intended.
This is my first introduction to this writer's work and I found the story to be simple, short and engaging...my favourite qualities in a book, although if I am being candid - in high school, are we that wise? I thought Katie and Daniel's developing attraction to each other to be a betrayal. Had Daniel been devoted to Marissa and Katie a true friend, neither of them would have entertained the thought of surrendering to their attraction, if they were truly mature they would have ignored it and walked away.
Katie, although she wasn't unlikeable, I sensed she wanted the unattainable and once she had it, she was dis-satisfied. She coveted Marissa's life, whereas, Marissa would have been satisfied simply being with Daniel.
I believed Marissa was wrong to sacrifice her own happiness for theirs by her acceptance.
Chapter 12 “You gave Katie everything and it nearly killed you. Somehow I’m the only one who ever seemed to notice that. Now here she is, married to Daniel. They have a seemingly perfect life together—the life which should have been yours, I might add—but now she is wanting out. I am all for happiness. It’s how I live my own life, but you need to start thinking about your own happiness for once. Be selfish. Be offended. Be pissed. You gave her everything, and now she is just throwing it all away.”
Holding grudges is human nature, the ability to set aside your differences and overcome past decisions - admirable.
"When I broke up with Daniel, I just knew in my heart it was only going to be temporary. I wanted him to get it out of his system".
This is story of betrayal, regrets and forgiveness - including second Chances after a twenty year delay.

Another great book by Tressa Messenger! I fell in love with these characters and their stories.
