4.5. Some of the characters lost ground in Catalyst of Corruption, but Bonds of Blood spun them back into the right direction.
Plot:
James searches for a cure to counteract the effects of Elysia’s reaping.
Characters:
While we see glimpses of Addie, Ian and the Elements, this novella is pretty much all James with a little side of Elysia. Both characters really stepped it up this time, but the real scene-stealer is George. Unfortunately, I can’t say why without spoiling anything.
Writing:
As usual, the editing is spot on, and because of everyone’s setbacks and because of James’ brothers constant interference, there is a ton of suspense. There is some language (including the f-bomb). There are also some sexual situations, but they weren’t terribly graphic. If I had to give Bonds of Blood a rating, I would probably say it was a PG13 or a mild R.
The Bottom Line:
You don’t have to read Bonds of Blood to be able to move on to The Fifth Essence, but I highly recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of James and Elysia. It not only sheds some light on how to cure Elysia’s health issues, but also sets up the series finale perfectly.
