The government has set up a fence around Washington, DC after a biological weapon detonates in the Nation's Capital. From the refugee camp just outside the fence, Kate watches the infecteds walk toward the gate before being gunned down by the soldiers patrolling the fence. She watches the other side of the fence because her daughter is in there, somewhere, and she's going to find a way in to rescue her.
Autumn hadn't seen another boat for weeks, but she still held out hope that someone would find her and her friends drifting through the Atlantic Ocean. But with supplies running low, Autumn has to decide if they risk running out of water or try to resupply in the outskirts of DC. A few chance sightings and a freak storm lead Autumn and her friends to believe that there is more left in DC than they thought.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I don't really read zombie apocalypse books much, but I really liked this one. The characters are complex and interesting to follow around. I like how the writer split the characters into two groups as they try to survive and find each other. The suspense kept me on the edge a couple of times throughout the book. Can't wait to read next one!
I don't normally do reviews, but this book is fast becoming one of my absolute favorites, and I want everyone to read it. Strong women who are allowed to have "weak" moments without it negating their strength. Ladies empowering ladies. Beautiful friendships between women and men, that aren't just used as a stepping stone to dating. Women who like women, but that's not all they are. Men who don't care when women are stronger, or smarter. This book, and it's sequel, has just the right amount of comedy, suspense, and found family. Everyone should read them both immediately.
Enjoyable read. Started off kind of slow (I may have just not been in the right mood at the time), but picked up, and now I'm anxiously awaiting a sequel. Well developed characters.
The changing in point of views between the two groups is well done-not confusing at all. I enjoyed how the scenery actually meant something extra (watching the groups get closer to meeting).
The characters are fun, the landscape is believable, and I want more. My cat enjoyed sitting on my lap while I read this because I didn't put the book down or move until I finished reading.
