Archangels #3

Saving Her Angel

Rate this book

Eleanor has loved her boss Cam from afar for years, but now he wants to retire and send her away. Tearing her heart out would have been kinder.

Archangel Camael must never fall for a woman. If he does, he’ll lose his angelic powers, and he will age like a human. Protecting humans from evil is paramount and has meant periodically reinventing his identity to avoid rousing suspicion. But as his desire grows for his secretary, Eleanor, duty feels more like a burden, because he can’t imagine starting a new life without her.

He can never fall in love.

A force of evil is wreaking havoc and Cam and his Archangel brothers scramble to determine and thwart the cause. The key lies in Eleanor’s tormenting memories, but if they push her too hard, she might snap. Cam must walk the delicate line between protecting Eleanor, appeasing his brothers, and saving the world.

Each book in the Archangels series is a standalone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.

Book Three in the Archangels series by Missy Jane. This is Camael's (Cam) and Eleanor's (Elle) story. Cam is an archangel and Elle's boss for the past 4 years. Elle's been attracted to Cam from day one, but now he's decided to retire and sends her packing without so much as a second glance. Alas life and fate has other plans in store for these two and they are soon caught up in a diabolical plan set in motion when Elle was just a child. Can these two find a forever together? Will Cam let his love for Elle surpass his need to do his duty??

"He looked her over again, and the heat in his eyes couldn’t be mistaken. “I really see you now, Elle. I see, and I want to touch."

I went into this one a bit blind as I haven't read the first two books in this series. That said, I wasn't really lost at all. The couples of the two previous books are mentioned and included in this one, with little tidbits of information about the first two books sprinkled here and there. This caught my attention because we really don't see a lot of "angel" hero books in paranormal romanceland. This is also my first read by this author (but won't be my last).

description

I enjoyed this one immensely. The characters were well written. The World building was interesting. The plot flowed nicely and kept me turning the pages. It had a little bit of angst, and a lot of action. The romance took awhile for me to get invested in. It's nearly 50% into the book before it really kicks into high gear. Before that I wasn't feeling it. Cam spends the first half of the book rather indifferent to Elle. He often forgets she is even around. Now there is a reason for this, and once it is cleared up things hit their stride, and we get some decent sex scenes. Though the second half is a lot better in the romance department, Cam's refusal to even consider "falling" for Elle kind of annoyed me. Three-fourths into the book he was still voicing his plans to "never fall" Kudos to Elle though because she put her foot down. She's not a fling kind of gal our Elle.

Those were just small little issues for me though, and it added some nice little relationship angst. Overall this one was a really good read and I am going to go back and read the first two books in this series. With my eye out for upcoming releases, because these hottie angels have definitely caught my attention. Two thumbs up from yours truly...

I am torn when it comes to my opinion on “Saving Her Angel” by Missy Jane. While it is the third book in the Archangels’ series it can be read as a standalone.

Naturally that will include spoilers on the endings of the previous books.

Lets start with the easy part – I liked the plotline a lot.

While it might not be a new one it was used in an engaging way that draws the reader into the book. The characters were given an interesting backstory and the development was refreshing. I mean lets face it – the idea of an Archangel living “next door” is an intriguing one.

Now the not so easy part – The writing (and I am truly sorry to be so blunt)

It felt like it was only scratching the surface of what the actual plotline hat to offer. Which made me kind of angry. As a reader I could hear that those characters had a story to tell, but the writing did not go deep enough into the situations that needed it.

We only hear for example how much Eleanor loves her boss Cam. But the reader never gets to actually FEEL that love. There is just one chapter almost at the End when there should have basically been tears in my eyes judging from the plot, but I could feel a tiny “only” hint of real emotions.

A story like this would have deserved this level at the end throughout the whole book and even a little on top at that specific chapter in the end.

Also the backstory drifts around in the first half of the book – with them waiting and thinking – which would have been enough of a backstory IF the plotline would have focused MORE on the relationship development between Eleanor and Cam.

But the way it is now the story does not have enough on both ends.

There is a reference in the book about another angel “Gabriel” and his story sounds like an interesting one. I would like to read his story at the emotional level of the last chapter from this book.

When this book comes up – I will give the series another try because that story really intrigues me.

Well several things went wrong with this book for me. #1 I did not realize it was the third in a series which is one of my reading OCD things I avoid. #2 The writing itself did not hold my attention well and some of this could be due to #1 :) The actual story and the plot were very enjoyable but I felt we spent a lot of time just rolling around with nothing really happening. That along with #1 caused me to scan large portions of this book and I felt I missed nothing.

Bottom line: Good plot, good story, boring in places, scanned a lot of it with no negative results. Will I read the next one .... maybe, will I back up and read the two I missed? Not likely but not impossible. this should have been a story that had me glued to the pages but it did not until late in the book (like the last 25%) when it DID actually live up to what I had expected. So 3 Stars and maybe if you have read the previous 2 novels it will be more of a 4 Star reading experience for you.

Book Three in the Archangels series, This is Camael & Eleanor's story. Cam is an arch-angel and is also Elle’s boss, which BTW, he has been so for the past 4 years. Elle has always had this deep attraction to Cam but he hasn’t tried to act on that attraction . With Cam retiring , he decides to get rid of Elle which causes her a lot of pain. Thing is Cam is an angel and changes form every so often as to keep people from realizing what he is. The day of his retirement, when Eleanor is driving away from her last day on the job and with Cam, something strange happens and suddenly Cam is there to save her. That is when Cam realizes someone is out to get Elle so he and his brothers become her bodyguards/protectors. Oh the chemistry is there between Cam and Elle and it is electric. I kept waiting to see how fast Cam would own up to her being his but it wasn’t immediate. There was this back and forth going on a lot and Cam has all this angst built up, a lot of confusion over what he wants whereas Elle wants him and a LT Relationship. This story will keep you on your toes as these are hardheaded MC who care very much for each other. Love is a main feeling that is shared but hidden at times. It is a good story but I craved more backstory, and the action was a bit mild. Other than that, Cam and his brothers are great. I loved the paranormal romance premise of this story.

My rating: 3.9 stars ****

I'm always hesitant to read books out of order, but took a chance on this one as it said it can read as a stand alone. While that does mostly hold true, there are some hints about 2 of the other angels that have already fallen for their mates that probably would have made more sense having read those tales.

Given not knowing the backstory, this is a pretty solid paranormal romance. Eleanor has had a rough life and was finally doing better. Then her boss decides to retire early and her world goes to hell, literally.

Someone is trying to open a gate to hell and Camael, an archangel, is determined to do his duty and keep the world safe. However, his feelings for Eleanor are growing and she may become a bigger priority.

I will begin by saying this story had some real potential. I liked the idea of an Archangel living next door. I guess what put me off is that it could have been so much more with more of a backstory. To me that is what details the characters, what forms them into who they are. Don't get me wrong, I found the precept worth reading and yes, I will look into the next book but I would like to more development into the characters feelings and pasts.

I wanted to feel what the characters did but it was very mild. It didn't grab me even though I really wanted it to. Cam and his brothers (Archangels) have so much to offer. That alone will bring me back.

Ok I have a smattering memory of the books before this. It was a good book, felt a bit dragging in that the big battle was down to the last page almost. The storyline felt washed out. Still loads of questions and holes that I don't know if they will ever be finished as this series is a trilogy and she's gone onto writing the dragon related series. I have been rooting for Gabriel for ages.

Yet again, I found myself eager to read a book that is not the first of the series. Saving Her Angel just sounded so good, I couldn't help myself. It is, in fact, the third book in the Archangels series by author Missy Jane, but I never felt lost or confused by the story. The focus was centered on the two main characters, Camael and Eleanor, with just enough interaction with Cam's Archangel brothers to make me extremely interested in reading more about them in subsequent (and previous) books.

I may have mentioned this a time or two before, but I love a good alpha male. Not the kind that forces his decisions or comes off as just a brute. I mean the kind that will move mountains for the one he loves, always taking her feelings in consideration; while he's always there to catch her if she falls, he lets her be her own person. This also requires the female protagonist to not play helpless victim all of the time as well, to be strong and willing to go the distance for her partner, but also to accept help when needed or know when a task is too dangerous for a human. We get the best of both worlds with Cam and Eleanor (or Elle, as he called her). Cam was tough, compassionate, and loyal. He didn't want to do anything that he felt would hurt his brothers, but he also was beginning to have serious feelings for Elle. With the demons plotting and scheming, he had to make some really tough decisions; while Elle was in the forefront of his mind, he also had to think about the billions of people around the world that needed protecting as well. Elle was awesome too. She wasn't afraid to stand up to Cam and let him have it if he irritated her and she didn't complain about being thrust into the middle of the angel/demon fight. She was willing to help at every turn, even if it sounded like a suicide mission. Above everything else, they refused to give up on each other even when things looked bleak.

The story moved along quickly and smoothly, which made it impossible to put down. In a small way, it reminded me of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Camael and his brothers were always there for each other and had such a tight bond that I loved. It's always nice to have a series like this because even though the book is finished, Cam and Eleanor are sure to pop up to assist in future adventures.

If I was hard-pressed to say something critical about this book, I would say that Cam used the word "baby" too much when talking to Elle. It's okay once in a while as a term of endearment, but it was a little overdone in this case. It did make me laugh though, because it reminded me of my mom. I got her into the Stephanie Plum series and she hated when Ranger would call Stephanie "babe"; he did it so often. She was forever complaining about that. Also, I wish the epilogue had been just a little longer. That's just me being selfish though and wanting more time with these characters!

There aren't a ton of sex scenes in this book, but the couple that are included between Cam and Elle are electric. I seriously got goosebumps as I was reading. I like how he took charge and was determined to make her feel good, which she later reciprocated.

If you're a fan of otherworldly books, especially those dealing with angels and demons, then you will definitely not be disappointed with Saving Her Angel. It was sexy and romantic, with hints of danger and humor, and I can't wait to read more from Missy Jane!

Review:

I really liked the plot and the idea of the story. Elle and others are being used by a demon and Cam, her boss and his angel brethren must save them and stop the demon. I found the part where Elle and the others were all once part of different cults very interesting and wished more time was spent on this aspect of the story. The first part of the story was slow in bits and even though there was action, it dragged at times for me. The ending was full of action and drama as they fought the demon and tried to help Elle and the others. Elle and Cam together were very sexy and that angel has a dirty side ;) I never felt lost when reading this even though it is book #3 in the series and of course I had not read the others, it really is self-contained.

Overall, I liked the book. I think the story could have maybe benefited if it was a longer format and more detail went into the cult, demon part of the story. It seems to have ended so I would be curious to see what the next book brings.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

Saving Her Angel by Missy Jane is Book 3 of the Archangels Series. Even though this is part of a series, it can still be read as a standalone so no worries if you haven’t read any of the others.

This is one tough review to write and I have lots of emotions over it, although sadly these aren’t the kind of feels one gets from reading a touching/gripping story that has grabbed a hold of you and wrenched every drop of feeling from you. Oh no, I’m talking more along the lines of disappointment and confusion, to name a few.

The world-buildup was nicely done while the characters are fleshed out and engaging. With that being said, I am one of those readers that needs to feel the connectivity and emotions that are taking place between the characters; with this book that didn’t happen. Instead, the author spends most of the time telling us what was felt. Don’t tell me, show me...make me feel it! As readers, we take an author’s words and create, in our own minds, the world, characters and relationships, according to our vision of what the author has described...all in our own unique and imaginative way. We pull from the sense of emotions given within the story, and if done right, we are held captivated, and engage not only our minds but our hearts as well and are taken on a wonderful ride without leaving our comfy reading spots. This is what takes us readers to our happy zones and what makes reading soooooooooooo freaking absofabulous! There was a lot of bouncing around and many slow parts in the story which made it feel laggy, instead of having a smooth flowing feel to the writing that we would have expected; such a shame considering there was some good action going on in the book. With respect to the storyline, I felt that it had such potential, however it came across as if the author only seemed to casually skim the surface of the storyline instead of tackling it full on which had me feeling letdown reading it.

Overall, this is an interesting read and way to spend a lazy afternoon.

I haven't read the first two books in this series but "Saving Her Angel" can be read as a standalone.

Camael aka Cam is one of the seven archangels who are stranded on earth. He works as a counsellor and because he doesn't change in appearance he has to move on to avoid suspicions.

Eleanor aka Elle has been Cam's secretary for the past four years and now that he has to reinvent himself, she no longer has a job. She doesn’t take this news very well as she loves her job and her boss.

On the day when they have to part ways, a strange phenomenon occurs and Elle finds herself in danger. Cam runs to her rescue with the help of his brothers. It so happens that evil is lurking and Cam suddenly feels protective towards Elle. He starts to see her in a different light and it's strange that he hasn't really "seen" her before now. He discovers that the reason for his oversight stems from her past. The more reason for him to protect her. His feelings for her start to run deep but as an archangel, getting emotionally attached would result in losing his angelic powers. Elle has been in love with him ever since she met him and now that the attraction is mutual, it's hard to resist.

This novel is very well structured. The ongoing battle between the archangels and the evil entity is full of action, suspense and danger. The feelings between Cam and Elle become stronger but their relationship remains fragile. As much as Cam wants to have a life with Elle, he doesn't want to "fall" and betray his brothers. Elle is not prepared to settle for a temporary relationship. Is there any chance of them becoming a real couple? The chemistry between them is unquestionable and when they are together sparks fly.

I have read quite a few angels/demons novels and I like the different and unusual approach to this storyline. It's an interesting concept which kept me turning the pages and I would recommend to lovers of the paranormal.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

SAVING HER ANGEL reads pretty similar to it's two predecessors, but I enjoyed meeting Eleanor and getting to know Camael better while Missy Jane unraveled their love story. While you can read book three as a standalone, you will miss a few things and you won't always have the full story when things are talked about.

Eleanor has been in love with her boss Cam for years, but Cam has never seen her more than a colleague. Cam is now retiring and not only does that mean she is losing her job, but she won't see Cam everyday anymore either. It's time for Cam to reinvent his identity and that means putting his current identity to rest. As he is in the process of doing that, evil goes after his secretary Eleanor. Cam starts waking up to the fact that Eleanor is a beautiful woman that is on the way to stealing his heart and making him want to fall.

As in most paranormal romances, Cam and Eleanor's relationship is up and down throughout the book. They do make a super cute couple and they have a recognizable spark, but I felt like we only got to see the surface of their feelings for each other. I felt like the writing was missing the depth of feelings I felt from the first couple in the Archangels series. I really did enjoy Cam and Elanor in SAVING HER ANGEL, I just wish the emotions would have jumped a little more off the pages. I guess that has more to do with the writing than the relationship itself though.

I will continue the series because I still really want to hear more about Gabriel. He is mentioned again in SAVING HER ANGEL, but we don't get anymore information on him and I think his story will be phenomenal.

The Archangel Camael and his brothers have been living among humans since the "Source of all things" went silent. They are working to keep the demons under control. They change their identity every ten years so that the humans don't notice the lack of aging.
Eleanor Tinley is furious, her boss who is only in his thirties has said he is retiring. That means she is out of a job. She has worked for him four years. OK , so she fancies him as well, but he has never noticed her in that way.
When Hell threatens to break loose the Archangels must protect those closest to them, especially when one seems to be attracting the demons.
This is the third book in the series. I have not read the previous ones (YET) but that didn't seem to matter with this story.
Our hero is a little upset over his brothers "falling" for their mates, and is certain that he cannot do that because he is needed for the fight against evil. Our heroine has had enough trouble in her childhood, she doesn't need to suddenly start seeing things again. She will however take the protection of her boss when it becomes obvious something is after her.
A fast paced and action packed story, with plenty of emotion and a few sexy scenes. I do love the brothers .They are great fun, considering that they are angels, they are not goody goodies.
I will definitely be reading the other books.

Fun and filled with action.

This time we hear from Cam and his secretary Eleanor. There has been attraction between them for years, but since Eleanor doesn’t know he’s angel and thinks of him as her boss, nothing will happen on her part. And since Cam is an angel, there are rules preventing him from falling for a human, so nothing can come from his attraction. So, we get these two characters who are hot for each other, but can’t do anything about it, lol.

Talk about tension.

Anyway, since Cam has to move from town, he fires Eleanor to let her go, which sets her off. I mean, really? Years of hard work and friendship and he just wants to up and leave? And adding to that, there is a threat of unnatural origins, one that has Eleanor in the middle of it.

So yeah, these two have a lot going on in their lives.

This was a fun read, with lots of action and some sweet moments in the middle of it. I mean, they ARE fighting for their lives, so it can’t be just romance. However, I liked the balance between these two. We get the romance I look forward to, but with lots of supernatural action.

Cam has more brothers that I’d like to read their stories from, so I look forward to reading more in the series.

This was my first read by Missy Jane and my first read in this series. I could easily pick up on the story line, but I felt like it needed a little more so that we would have more of a backstory to it. I enjoyed this story because I love archangel stories, but felt that it was a little slow at points.

Eleanor has worked for Cam for several years and now he is letting her go. Little does Eleanor know that it is because Cam is an Archangel and has to change his form every and identity every so many years. Because of this Cam never allows himself to get too attached to any one person for fear of having to leave them when it is his time to change once again.

When Eleanor is driving away from her last day at the job with Cam, a strange occurrence happens and Cam comes to her rescue. When Cam realizes that someone is out to get Eleanor, he and his brothers become her protector. I liked the adventure and suspense that was in the plot. It kept me wondering what was going to happen.

Overall, this was a good read but I just thought that we could have used a little more back story to even out the overall plot. I will give the next books in the series a chance as well!

This is the third book in the series, not having read the first two did not leave me at a disadvantage. There was plenty of backstory and reoccurring characters to be able to keep up with the series. This is the fist book by this author I've read, the jury is still out on whether or not I'll follow up with the first two books in the series though.

The story took me a bit of time to become emotionally invested in the characters. There seemed to be parts that dragged on and could have been left out completely without taking away from the overall integrity of the story. I wish that Cam and Eleanor would have come together sooner, it would have added more interest to the story for me. I did thoroughly enjoy the ending though, that alone may come back for more from this author.

Like the 2 books before Cam and Elle's story is just as endearing. Each of the Archangels before had their own unique reasons for falling. Cam never even contemplated it until he was forced to see Eleanor as someone other than his secretary. Armoros though is turning out to be one crafty demon spawn, coming up with ever more creative ways to return to the human realm. I'm now really curious to know its end game. And Gabriel's situation is heartbreaking as ever. I am really looking forward to that arc of the series. I wonder who's next, definitely intrigued about what's going to be Mike's story. Would also like to see more pf the other clans. What would happen if 2 angles got together? Hmmmmm......

I was generously provided an arc in exchange for a honest review from NetGalley. This is the third book in the Archangels series. But my first book in this series but Ill definitely be getting the other two books. Elenor has been in love with her boos Cam for years but now he wants to retire and send her away, its breaking her heart. Archangel Camael must never fall for a women or he'll lose his angelic powers and become human. Protecting the world is important. But he also has feelings for Elenor and sending her away is making him hate his job. But someone is after her so he needs to protect her because she has something they need to stop the bad guys. I loved these two its a classic boss live story with a parnomal elements that made it so much better.

Something evil is making Camael and his brothers on high alert and it is because of this that Missy Jane is making me get the others in this series. I love the whole Archangel concept in this series and yet it breaks my heart for Camael never knowing love. Two of his brothers have already found someone and he is distraught on his feelings. He knows he cannot have Eleanor because of who he really is but he still desires her. As an Angel he cannot love just one person for he is sent to only protect us yet when it comes to her he is ready to break the rules. Missy Jane has a hit with this series and cannot wait to see what happens to others in series.

As much as I enjoy reading Missy Jane's book this one, felt more like a background story instead on of the 3rd book in the series. It was still a good read but I feel that nothing was truly added to the series with this book. As a stand a lone it would do well. The writing was good, and I loved that Missy didn't feel the need to rehash topics that were already covered in previous books. I loved watching Cam fall in love and learning how that helps to make him stronger and an asset for him and his brothers.

I love angel stories and this is one I devoured from start to finish.

You will fall in love with Cam and Eleanor. He's her boss and she's the secretary who just lost her job... but fate has other plans.

If you are a lover of Angel stories, trust me, you'll enjoy this one. It's humours, sexy, intense, filled with sexy angels and more!

4 stars from me.
I look forward to reading more by this author in the future!
