My how things have changed

This is an interesting read. It's fun to see how both aviation and the language have evolved since 1912. As a pilot, I know many of the aerodynamic theories of the day have changed considerably. As I say that, I also realize Curtis was not formerly educated. Brilliant man, but his concept of lift is mistaken. It does get dry at times, but that is history for you.

The first half of book is a fascinating recounting of early flights by Curtiss himself and makes it worth reading. The latter part of the book catalogues the evolution in aviation with additional flights by others, aeronautical events and details that become rather repetitive and occasionally tiresome.

The Real Story

Want to know how there airplane was developed? Read this great book written by the genius Curtiss and others he influenced. The Wright's may have been the first but it looks like Curtiss went much farther in development. Great read.

Like Orville Wright’s book on aviation, this is flying history directly from one of the guys who made it happen.  Very readable and understandable, even though it was written in 1912, less than 10 years after the Wright Brothers’ first flight, it also presents a prescient view of where the new technology was headed. A must read for any airplane nut like me.
