The miracle of the Ten Commandments is that they still hold everything we need. They still show us that we need a Savior! Women of all ages seek to love better—to love their families and friends, themselves, and most importantly, their Lord. Through real-life examples and biblical insight, the forty brief lessons in this study help women see how to do just that. They will be able to better recognize their frailties and habits, and see why they need to receive Jesus’ perfect love so they can spread love to others! Love Rules addresses one commandment each week by offering an introduction and four follow-up devotions that approach each commandment from different angles. Lessons take on a “what does this mean” approach by describing real-life situations, asking open-ended questions, and providing targeted Scripture readings.

Great devotional for moms. The chapters are short and sweet, making it readable during the brief spurts of free time you might have available. Christina uses stories of grief, trauma, doubt and failure to point us to the love and grace found in the 10 commandments. Yes, you read that right. Grace. Right there in the big stone tablets. Who knew?! Perfect for individual reflection or group study.
We read through this for our women's Bible study. It takes each of the ten commandments and relates 4 stories for each. Many times, it pulls meaning from the commandments in ways that I never would have thought. It made for good discussion points with the other ladies. One to reread again for my own personal growth.
I enjoyed going through this book. Christina Hergenrader’s voice is so relatable to me and she explains things in such a down-to-earth way. I’ve liked her ever since I read Family Trees and Olive Branches (which I highly recommend by the way!) years ago.
I’ve been extra interested lately in the large catechism written by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther so I kept that alongside this book as I went through it. I found it very helpful reading through his explanation on each commandment and then after, reading through Christina’s stories on that commandment. I believe they compliment each other very well. (Also, it’s essential to have a bible close by to look up verses as well.)
Another good book by Christina and I will miss her company as I’ve sat with her in the early mornings with my coffee. CPH is a blessing to me.
This is an excellent look at the Ten Commandments and what they mean for 21st-century believers in everyday life. Christina has an enjoyable conversational style of writing. She relates personal stories with vulnerability and honesty. I was convicted as to ways I break the Ten Commandments, but her overarching theme is one of God’s grace and love shown to us through His Law and His Gospel. Her chapters about the Ninth Commandment are particularly strong and resonated deeply with me. Definitely a book worth reading again and again.
This Bible study is a very engaging, eye-opening look at the 10 Commandments. I appreciated how Christina drew parallels between the Old and New Testament teachings on the Commandments, and the stories she told helped me think about the role of the Commandments in my own life. There is a good balance of Law and Gospel, although I felt like a few of the sessions didn’t really shine the Gospel light as clearly as I needed. The discussion questions tend to be very personal, which was excellent for individual reflection, but can make it challenging to discuss in a group of acquaintances.
Christina does a great job of reviewing the 10 commandments! Even if you have looked at them a hundred times this book pushes you to examine yourself. Best news is the way she conveys God's grace! Hope you take the time to read this or get in a group study as I was.
The Ladies Bible Study at my church (Lutheran) chose this book as a study guide. We all loved it. It took a bit longer to go through than the books we ordinarily study, but it was worth it. Each commandment gets an introduction and four small chapters (originally written as blog posts). This author made the commandments contemporary with her writing and discussion questions. One reason it took longer to go through this book was because our discussions were so great. I hope to see more Bible studies of this type from this author.
