She lives in Wales in the UK with her husband and son. Although she has written several books, her heart lies with children's books.

She created Minkie Monster after playing around with a drawing app on her tablet. Her toddler (at the time) loved the character so much she began to tell stories about him and his naughty friend Bob. Visit http://minkiemonster.com to find out more about Minkie and Bob and the adventures they go through.

Minkie Monster is excited that he has a birthday party to attend. He really wants to go but has forgotten which one of his friends invited him. His best friend, Bob, is playing one of his hiding games and Minkie does not know where to find him. That is also making him late for the party. Now what is he to do? Minkie decides to take a trip to the planet Venus, hoping he will remember whose birthday it is, while figuring out where Bob is. Will he make it back to Earth in time for the party?

Minkie Monster and the Birthday Surprise by Ceri Clark is for the age group 3-6. It is a fun, interactive novella for kids that teaches them to count the objects they see, and follow the instructions for other activities. These include match games, word search puzzles, space puzzles, count the objects in the pictures, and connect the dots.

Ceri Clark’s objective in writing this book is to develop children’s cognitive skills, counting and an appreciation for reading. She has included a link in the novella to her website where the coloring pages and puzzles can be downloaded in PDF format. The illustrations are colourful and will attract young readers. This novella is from the Minkie Monster series and is a good addition to school libraries as well as homes.

Minkie Monster and the Birthday Surprise is the second children’s’ activity book by Ceri Clark I have reviewed.

Designed for children aged between three and six years old, it is a fun filled, brightly coloured, activity book that educates and entertains.

The activities are linked through the story of how Minkie, the blue monster is invited to a party but cannot remember who it if for. He is unable to find his best friend, Bob, who is always hiding.

While it will amuse children on their own, because the puzzles get progressively more difficult it is an ideal platform for parents to spend time with their child and encourage reading, reasoning and learning.

Both the story line and writing style are well suited to the target age groups.

From the author’s website (the link is in the book) parents can download a black and white PDF version so puzzles can be used over again and the pages coloured in by your child.

“Hello? Can you help me solve some puzzles?” Ebooks open up to the first page rather than the cover, and this is a very enticing first page, as the curious monster offers a simple welcome. The book is dedicated (in the next pages) to the youngest members of a family, and it’s well suited to the age group. The writing is clear, with quickly changing font sizes enticing readers to see words as a precursor to learning to read. And the puzzles are pleasingly simple, with a nice “Where’s Bob?” theme adding interest.

Of course, my mathematical tendencies wanted extra clues for the simple numbers games. I wished the numbered spaceships had port holes to match, etc. But this book includes all the other favorite puzzles from childhood too—tracing lines to destinations, joining the dots to make letters and numbers, pattern matching and more. Space Puzzles is short, bright-colored and fun, with the added attraction of a snakes and ladders game, and downloadable content to use over and again.

What a fun little book! It has cute rhymes, adorable illustrations which are brightly colored and eye-catching, and lots of puzzles to work out (which get more challenging as the book goes on, so that the book can engage both younger and older readers). It is a perfect story for parents and children to read together.

The author always provides a link to a PDF version which can be printed out to allow for multiple children to solve the puzzles--or the same child to solve them over and over again!

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**

Fun and Interactive

Minkie Monster is invited to a birthday party. Yes, it's fun for preschoolers. The graphics are amazing and the story is very adorable. The other part of this, as a kindle book, the author allows the reader to down a pdf of the coloring pages and puzzles for children to complete. It's interactive and fun. The story is a learning adventure and it's definitely fun for children. Very impressive book for children (and I liked it, too).

I love how this book has things to do such as coloring, counting, etc. It helps the kids to read as well. I like how it tells kids that someone is missing and they need their help to find him. That keeps the kids wondering.
