Some of the information is dated, but I enjoyed this. I especially liked the interviews with astrologers towards the end. My favorite part was how different astrologers answered the question, "What's your favorite part of being an astrologer?"

Having graduated from Kepler College, I was well versed on most of the information in this book. Still, I enjoyed the perspectives of some of the best known astrologers in the field. I think anyone who's interested in astrology, consulting, or getting a deeper look into the field would enjoy this. Also, they'd find the reference section useful. Anyone who has attended formal classes may not learn any new business skills--but they might enjoy seeing how other astrologers are managing their clients.

The reason I would recommend that people attend an astrological school like Kepler is that they're taught about many different types of astrology, and how to read a chart. Testing through ISAR and NCGR is helpful, but it may not give an astrologer the comprehensive knowledge of all of the different astrology systems and historical background.

The nice thing about a school is that you get to experience so many different ways of reading a client's chart, and experiment. It's also nice to have teachers who have been in the field for decades when you have questions, and other students to compare notes with. The experience of attending an astrological school gives you a deeper feeling for the community and the responsibility you have when you start consulting.

I started accepting astrology clients about a year after I finished my program at Kepler. I think working on charts in my courses gave me the confidence to start charging clients for my knowledge faster than I would have if I'd only read books.

I think if someone is on the verge of investing in a program like Kepler, this book would be helpful. It gives you a taste of the different fields of study, and demonstrates how expansive the opportunities within astrology can be. When it comes to the pure business side of attracting clients, however, I think it's more helpful to observe popular astrologers on social media. Unfortunately, the best astrologers are rarely those that are young and savvy enough to be experts at social media. Astrology is complex and takes years of study.

When it comes to attracting new clients, marketing and branding--it's better that the older generation studies younger astrologers on social media, rather than their peers. Business changes so fast that colleges never seem on the cutting edge of teaching their students how to compete on the material side of their profession. So if you were hoping to learn how to grow (or start) a business by attending a formal astrological school, or through a book--my advice is that you might be better off just observing popular astrologers on social media.

A brilliant book packed full of very useful information for aspiring professional Astrologers. My only complaint is that this book is geared mainly towards US Astrologers so when discussing tax and insurance, does not cover the UK equivalents. But other than that it was a fab read and definitely deserves 5 stars!

I’ve been dabbling with astrology for nearly 20 years, through books and occasional lectures. For the past year I have seriously studied with a teacher in small group classes and begun consulting for friends & family. If, when and how to go pro has been on my mind. This book offered a lot to consider about what it’s like to set up a practice and the issues that arise.

It’s from a professional organization and so part of the book is an exploration of professional organizations around the world, certification and peer group programs. The history section could probably be left out — it’s less important to potential members and telling the story of old conflicts may not be helpful.

There are also survey results about how astrologers make a financial living and a collection of interviews. It is solid information for someone interested in becoming a professional astrologer and I’d recommend highly for that audience. I found it helpful.
