The first chapter grabs the reader and sets the tone for the rest of the book.

Nate Collier is a bounty hunter, hot on the trail of Mad Dog Consuelos. When they meet face to face, Consuelos kills his wife and shoots his 7 year old daughter and Nate. They were lucky to survive. Nate and Gracie form a bond that will never be broken.

In order to protect Gracie from her murderous father, Nate arranges for the two of them and their very helpful nurse go into the witness protection program.

Reid Langley, sheriff and friend to Nate willingly helps them to relocate to his very small town at least until Consuelos is caught and tried for murder.

While everyone is settling in, young healthy girls start dying. No obvious reasons, they just died. Then another pretty girl is found dead of no apparent causes. When numbers 3 and 4 are found, they know for sure they're looking for a serial killer.

Besides the main characters, there's the doctor who runs the hospital, a coroner who probably needs to retire, a young deputy who's second guessing his career choice, a forensic profiler, and the townspeople. Most of them are your average small town folks....and some of them aren't.

Engaging read ... excellent character portrayals, loved the small town descriptions. The suspense ebbed and flowed throughout. Just when you couldn't hold your breath any longer, the author took you along a different path.

The author has other books available and I will be reading them, as well.

Many thanks to the author who graciously furnished a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Just one more chapter

I am a fan of this author and I am always amazed at her ability to fan the flames of a story. I especially loved this book as she wrapped my emotions around little Gracie and made it impossible for me to let go. Detailed character development as well as perfect pacing are evident in every Kim Carter novel. Deadly Odds will keep you flipping pages for just one more chapter before you turn out the light.

What a sensational read! An epic mystery that trumps all other mystery novels! Kim has a very distinct writing style. It is highly suspenseful and keeps you on edge throughout the entire novel. She seems to weed out the dull character or plot-building and mesh it into the action. We are informed in and amongst the action. That is possibly the reason the books are so fast paced and energy bleeds from each and every page. The only downside? The book seems like it was over way too fast, despite them being the average length of a novel. But as they say, a good book is never long enough.

As is another habit of Kim’s, the characters are depicted as real. This doesn’t stop them from being incredibly interesting however. We either love or hate them, but are undeniably fascinated in them.

Anyway, this particular tale, 'Deadly Odds' is full of action, mystery, suspense and very thrilling. Central character Nate, a bounty hunter, has his life turned upside down, but still he powers on undetermined; a true survivor. His latest bounty isn’t the easiest. In fact, it may be the most challenging he has ever been given the task of capturing. Nate doesn’t realise just how far this criminal will go to stay out of prison.
Reid makes a particularly fantastic sheriff in my opinion. He stretches the boundaries of a typical sheriff while still holding onto some stereotypical qualities. This antagonist is terrifying and makes the reader unsettled whenever he is present in a scene. Well done to Kim for such phenomenal characterisations.

A breathless, suspenseful mystery ensues when Nate, a bounty hunter, is hired to bring in a true psychopath. Will Nate be able to save innocent people from a criminal determined to stay out of prison by any means necessary?

I cannot recommend this enough. Although a clear mystery, there are multiple appeals and endless reasons why a reader, despite their genre preference, should pick up a copy of this!

Nate is a bounty hunter, who is assigned to a case that involves Mad Dog Consuelos. Mad Dog is unlike other convicts on the run, he is a psychopath that will stop at nothing to avoid going back to jail, even if that means sacrificing his own family. While trying to detain Mad Dog, things go awry and that leads to a trail of devastating events. Will Nate be able to protect those around him from Mad Dog's treachery? or,Does Mad Dog's demented ways leave them all fighting for their lives?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end,not one dull moment. The suspense was breath-taking and the story-line was jaw dropping.I especially loved little Gracie, she made the story have that sentimental value.I would definitely recommend this fast -paced, action packed thriller.Great Job Kim Carter, look forward to your future work.

'Deadly Odds' was one of those books that pulled me in from the beginning and didn't let up. The storyline was well written and well thought out. Full of action, mystery, suspense and very thrilling. The characters were great. Nate's life was turned upside down and he still made the best of it. He is very good at being a protector, a survivor and being a 'consultant'. Reid made a great sheriff. The way this story played out had quite a bit going on, but not to the point of being confusing. I look forward to reading more of the 'G Street Chronicles'. A great add to your tbr list.

Clean, exciting and interesting.

So very refreshing to read a WELL WRITTEN book that is also clean, exciting and interesting! So often if a book is clean it is also insipid, silly, very light weight or all three!!! I'll definitely read her other books now that I've realized what a gifted writer she is. I also appreciate that she doesn't write series. Get tired of those books that one must read many books before getting the whole story! This book was great! Thank you, Ms. Carter!

Holy Bullets What a RIDE!!

The book blurb should actually read; "Two worlds EXPLODE in this edge of your seat thriller!"

Exceptionally well-written heart-pounding crime suspense mystery you'll ever! It may be a little older release? Readers will NOT be disappointed! You really will not be able to put this one down when you begin chapter one as it pulls you right from the beginning to the last page needing to "The End"...

Deadly Odds is a book that sucks you in the minute you read the first few lines of it. Once you pick it up there is no putting it down until you finish. Its fast pace keeps you enticed and if you even blink your eyes you may miss some of the action. I'm not an avid reader so this is my first Kim Carter book, but I will say it won't be my last...definitely a must read!!
