Takahashi (高橋和希) started as a mangaka in 1982. His first work was Tokiō no Tsuma (闘輝王の鷹), published in 1990. One of his earliest works was Tennenshokudanji Buray (天然色男児BURAY), which lasted for two volumes and was published from 1991 to 1992. Takahashi did not find success until 1996 when he created Yu-Gi-Oh!
Daaaaaang I forgot how much more brutal the manga version is. Again, I think of that quote from Takahashi about how "This was originally supposed to be a horror manga" and to that I say ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN IT ISN'T?!
Thia was a good volume that not only presented answers of the mystery of the arch but also revealed Dark Marik well and cemented his power on the board. Yet I found just how dark the manga chapters were compared to the dub animé episode just shocking and made Dark Marik even more evil too.
I'm having way too much fun reading this. And oh, the nostalgia. Also, I didn't expect it to be SO FREAKING DARK. Ps: Kaiba has never done anything wrong, ever, in his life.
I like the new characters of Rishid, Ishizu, and Marik. The backstory was done well and really gave us a feel for who all the characters are and their motivations. I personally love the Joey and Mai relationship, they are both great characters, especially when interacting with beachgoer. This story arc one feels like the previous storyline at points but is more character driven and holds more personal stakes at hand. I appreciate how Takahashi has tried to flesh out the characters more in this one. Ready for the final showdown.
