4 Stars for Esteban

description

Lani Morrison is in the midst of an existential crisis, as she’s lost all hope in her marriage and career and just wishes to disappear for a while. Trying to regain herself and inspiration to paint again, she takes a trip to Hawaii where she meets an enigmatic surfer.

Esteban Mendoza is a high ranked member of a Mexican drug cartel who happens to surf the same beach as Lani. While surfing, Esteban sees Lani is in trouble and saves her from drowning.

“Some fear will kill you,” he said. “Some fear will open your eyes. I know all about the difference.”

As Lani tries to retreat, Esteban recognizes the dark shadows in her eyes and wonders why she’s lost all hope. Knowing his time is limited on the island, he and Lani spend a day and night together. In this short time, Este and Lani forge an intimate connection despite knowing their lives cannot intersect longer than they already have. Esteban has always had an easy way about him on the surface, but he is percolating hot on the inside with his sexual prowess.

“You’re so wet, Lani. I could drink you.” “Do it,” I moaned. “Lick me with your tongue, fuck me with the gun.”

description

“I knew he was bad and yet I wanted him. I wanted the thrill, to know what it felt like to be alive.”

In this novella, we are given a little more of a glimpse of Esteban and I liked seeing this caring and protective side of him. With Lani, I understood her despair to a degree, but I was relieved to read how she was able to move forward without regret. As for Esteban, I was looking forward to reading chapters from his POV, but despite this story being told strictly from Lani’s perspective, Este’s charm and wisdom from living his chosen life shined brightly.

“Some people come into our lives for just a second, just long enough to let us know that hope exists.”

As always, Karina Halle’s prose flow effortlessly and project such vivid imagery relating to the emotional and physical landscape in this story. For those who are long-time fans from the Artist’s Trilogy and Dirty Angels series, this added novella is a bonus. And for newbies, Esteban, adds a bit more character dimension to a longstanding secondary character. Overall, I recommend Esteban (previously published as Dark Paradise) for those who want a hot read with themes of second chance and hope.

(*Note: I loved, loved, loved Esteban’s mobile ring for Javier! lol!)

THE COMPLETE DIRTY ANGELS TRILOGY FOR JUST .99? GAWD!!!!! YOU NEED TO CLICK CLICK CLICK THIS SERIES.

This is one of those series that stay with you FOREVER. A definitely MUST READ.

The Dirty Angels Series is not full of rainbows or unicorns but betrayal, lies and pain. It's a love story written in blood, where loyalty can be bought. Because when you are part of the cartel drug world, trust, is something really hard to find and keep.

Javier and Luisa, oh boy I adore them. Let me tell you something, these two are not your typical couple. What can you expect from a drug lord and his queen? Yeah.

I could tell you a lot about this series but I believe you need to go blind and experience it by yourself. If you like to read dark romances, give this series a chance. You won't regret it. And if you do you can come find me and slap the hell out of me.

Not every author has the talent to switch up from one genre to another and witnessing it was absolutely amazing. I'm in awe of Karina Halle, of her versatility in writing. Going from sweet to blood and gore it is not an easy thing, and she is so good at it that I think it is what she does best, an experience you are only going to get by reading this series. So don't lose your time and meet Javier Bernal.

One of my all time favorite dark romance series. It is very suspenseful, and it will have you on the edge of your seat! I just couldn't get enough of the amazing and phenomenal characters and world that Karina created. You'll hate and love Javier at the same time. He is the only character that got away with some very horrific actions, I just couldn't hate him. This book is a gem in the dark romance genre and I wish more people would give this Trilogy a try because it is AMAZING!!

DIRTY ANGELS:

To say I LOVED this book is putting it mildly!!!

"Because I want to destroy beautiful things before they can destroy me"

DIRTY DEEDS:
LOVED it!!!! Action packed with humor mixed in!!!! I CANNOT wait for the third book....JAVIER! :)

DIRTY PROMISES:
HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!!!!! JAVIER & HIS QUEEN!!! I felt everything with this book, screamed a few times, cringed plenty, & absolutely devoured it!!!!!!! I kept thinking this needs to be a movie so I can watch it on the big screen (where I would peek b/t my fingers to watch!!!), since the writing plays in your mind as if you're watching a big budget film! In all of this book's madness, it was true to Javier, which is why it contained so much madness in the first place. To me, Javier is the "bad" guy in the movies, who you like & root for, since he does have moments where his heart shines through!! Luisa is his perfect match!!! I am SO excited about the future book mentioned at the end!!!!!

"You're heart is mine. You're all mine. Every part of you, Luisa, every part"

"So ruthless and cunning, but with tenderness, loyalty, and a twisted code of morals hidden deep inside him."

I loved this trilogy! After reading about Javier in the Artist's trilogy I was in a love/hate relationship with him but completely fascinated at the same time so I couldn't wait to read this series!

Dirty Angels
Karina is one of those authors that can write in any genre out there and it's going to be a fantastic read. I've been a huge fan ever since I read her Artist's trilogy. Riding the Ellie/Camden/Javier train was intense! I have to admit, even though I wanted to hate Javier, I just couldn't. He is one of the most fascinating anti-heroes out there. I couldn't wait to find out what Karina had in store for him.

Dirty Angels was even more raw and gritty than the Artist's trilogy and I am really excited!! It was hard for me to imagine that Javier would ever find any woman who challenged him the way Ellie did but Luisa turns out to be the perfect compliment to him. A former beauty queen, now struggling to support her parents. Javier sees her and is instantly intrigued. But she ends up married to a drug lord, and enemy of Javier's. He kidnaps her in his plot against her husband's rival cartel with plans to "taint" her before sending her back. But things don't turn out that way...

This book was action packed and it had my heart racing many times. Not for the faint of heart, that is for sure!!

Dirty Deeds
After reading Karina's Artist's trilogy books I was very intrigued with Derek Conway and had hoped she was going to write his story someday. American ex-military mercenary hanging out in Mexico offering his services to the highest bidder? Sounded like it could be a really good story!

Derek gets commissioned to kill a flight attendant named Alana Bernal, but once he lays eyes on her he can't go through with it. He actually ends up befriending her so that he can try to figure out who it is that wants her dead. After spending time together Derek finds out the woman he is developing feelings for is none other than the sister of Javier Bernal. If you've read Karina's three Artist's trilogy books, or her book Dirty Angels, you will remember exactly who Javier Bernal is. There's no way to ever forget Javier!!

Karina weaves a twisted tale of suspense, lies, lots of danger, betrayal, but mostly romance and love. Yes, hard to believe there is so much love and romance in a Karina book that deals with the infamous Mexican drug cartel, and of course Javier and his army, but I felt the connection between Derek and Alana. They obviously had an instant attraction, but it was more than that, they felt a deep connection to each other. Derek is doing everything in his power to keep Alana alive while trying to figure out who it was that hired him initially to kill her.

The twists in the book kept me reading as quickly as I could to find out who the "bad guy" was. Sounds funny to say that when practically everyone in the book was a bad guy, with the exception of Alana and her two girlfriends, Luz and Dominga.

Great, action packed story. I felt the story flowed smoothly and kept me engaged the entire time I was reading. Even though Dirty Deeds is touted that it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the books in order, starting with Dirty Angels. I would actually really suggest starting from the very beginning with Sins and Needles, Shooting Scars and Bold Tricks, THEN start the Dirty Angels series.

I really loved the epilogue, and Karina sets the ending of this book up to get us geared up for the next book, Dirty Promises. I can't wait to get started on that one!

Dirty Promises
Javier Bernal and his queen, Luisa are finally sitting on the throne of one of Mexico's largest drug cartels. As happy and in love as they are, it is a brutal place to be sitting and there has been way too much death and destruction along the way to allow them to sit upon their thrones unscathed. Javier has suffered the loss of yet another sister and this one almost brings him to his knees. He is consumed by uncontrollable rage and the obsessive thought that no one that he loves is safe to around him. He pushes his queen, Luisa away to protect her, but she doesn't understand his distance or why he is doing all of the horrible, hurtful things he is.

Feeling alone, hurt and betrayed, Luisa turns to the one and only person who is showing her any attention, Javier's second in command, Esteban Mendoza. What follows is an extremely dark and brutal tale of Javier's quest to remain on top of his cartel while battling his demons and the outside forces that are trying to tear his cartel apart.

This is definitely a story that is very graphic in nature, more "real" than I really wanted to know, but it is a stark reminder that the events in this book really do happen in the world. Javier will stop at nothing to get what he wants, whether it be information from a source or access to a shipping lane to transport his drugs. His methods are often brutal but very effective.

Underneath all of the blood and gore and ugliness of their way of life is the love between Javier and Luisa. They have not had an easy road to get to their place at the top of the cartel. There is betrayal and lies and everything you can think of that should pull two people apart. But Luisa is having none of that and literally fights tooth and nail to bring Javier back to her, all while he is fighting tooth and nail to hold on to his seat at the top and get rid of the one man who is trying to take everything Javier holds nearest and dearest to his heart.

A very gripping story, one that made me very queasy at times, madder than anything the next, but then laughing right after that at the comments and antics of Javier Bernal. Oh Javier, there really is no one else out there like you! Karina was a queen herself with the way she spun this story and held me completely captive until the very last line of the book! Her versatility as an author amazes me, how she can write something as dark and ugly as a drug cartel but then announce her upcoming love story about a hotter than heck Scottish rugby player who rescues dogs.

I am a Karina fan for life!! She somehow managed to get me through a story so brutal in places that I should have put down my book and run the other way. But I found myself secure in the knowledge that she would somehow lead us to a very satisfying conclusion (for now) of Javier and Luisa's journey.

Dirty angels
I have to say I'm a big fan of the artists trilogy and when I heard there was going to be a book about Javier I couldn't resist. Even though I had mixed feelings about him, because I loved him and hated him at the same time. I don't think I will ever find another character as prominent as Javier, not any time soon anyway.
This book is really dark and there are scenes about rape and torture. These acts are part of the story and if you can't read those don't even start the book, because the scenes are so vivid and it's impossible even to skip them because some important things happen during them.
I love everything about this book. Yes,it's dark and some parts so very hard to read, but it's so worth it. I think I can understand Javier better and I finally get to see his story, because at the end of the artists trilogy I was disappointed. I thought Javier didn't get what he deserved, I'm not talking about an HEA, but I felt like things went down too easy and Javier was left at the side, something so out of character for him. I'm so very happy now, because I've got what I was looking for and more.
Luisa..I love this woman. She couldn't be more perfect for Javier. She is strong and she does what she has to without complain, even when it costs her dearly. Her life as been difficult, but after she married Salvador it was a nightmare. How she coped I don't know, but it looks like every single thing she went through was leading her to Javier and a life she deserved. She discovered a new side of her at his side and I was so damn proud.
Just amazing! Can't wait to read the second book and I'm sure we will get more Javier.

Dirty deeds
Karina Halle never disappoints..what a ride!
Derek and Alana's story is hot and full of danger, mystery and there is so much action!!!
I loved reading both sides of the story, trying to understand where each character is at and remembering details from the artists trilogy and dirty angels!!!
Javier makes an appearance as well as other characters from dirty angels.
I couldn't put it down, totally immersed in this Mexico and the different characters' story.
Can't wait for dirty promises, where the story will pick up a certain situation that started in this book... Ohhh is going to be explosive.. I can feel it!

Dirty promises
I still remember the first time I "met" Javier..didn’t like him that much in the artists trilogy, but as I read Dirty Angels I fell head over heels in love with him. Javier was always dangerous and powerful, but he always held a moral code, albeit a peculiar one, but nonetheless he did have it. In Dirty Promises Javier is going from monster to devil, his cruelties and his actions seems to be driven from a need to get rid of this mounting rage..no questions asked and no reason for them either..just blind rage!!! I understand why..Losing his sister and not allowing himself to be with Louisa..Everything is spiraling out of control so fast!
Louisa..I always loved her..A woman who knew the risks she was taking and tge life sge was going to live, yet at the same time realising that Javier was worth it..and now she is disillusioned, so used to violence she doesn’t find it strange anymore..But what cuts her is the distance and her role changing.
Esteban..don't get me started..This man is not evil..He is depraved and he revels in it..He has no moral code or dignity..just jealousy and a misplaced idea that everyone owe him something to make it up for his life! He is vicious, so cruel and always uses fear unnecessary as a means to have power and control over others.
I'll admit I shivered at some scenes, mostly one ;) and no not the one you will think when you read..that was totally deserved and I smiled at my kindle ( go Louisa)..anyway I cringed and at times put down my kindle, going back and fort in my mind..wanting to read it but actually a bit afraid of what was coming next!!!
If I could have manhandled Javier I would have..But he makes up for it so it's all good ;)
Louisa transformed into a powerful queen..so proud of her..Not saying why, what or how cause it's so f*cking brilliant you have to read it.
I love this series, but this book is definitely the darkest of the three, which I love, but before reading it please heed the warning!!!
This story is a ride to hell and back( roller coaster actually sounds to nice a term lol), so many f*cked up situations and raw uninhibited violence, so much blood and crazy characters to last me a while..and I am totally and completely and utterly in love

I'm rereading this trilogy while I wait for Black Hearts to come out on paper back.
These books need to be put on audio! I asked Karina Halle & she said it's up to the publisher & they have no desire to put them on audio. Are you kidding me??? Not only does this trilogy need to be put on audio but it need to be on TV too. Movie or miniseries, I don't care.

If you haven't read this series you are seriously missing out. Not only is the writing superb (I mean hello, it's a Karina book) but she challenges you as a reader. She keeps pushing and pushing your boundaries and I absolutely loved that. I craved more, more, more. These characters are dark but if you take the chance, you'll find you just might have a black heart as well. At least a little bit.

And let me add that Dirty Promises was my #1 book of 2015. She absolutely blew me away with it.

Best trilogy I've read in a very long time.

These books are so worth your time. I'm glad I bought this trilogy. Karina Halle is an absolute amazing writer, the way she brought the characters to life and how I was captivated in this story from the moment I began the first book. Unfortunately I didn't know that the characters storyline began before these books. I wish I knew. So now I have to go back and read the books before these. But even so, I am more than happy to say PLEASE don't waste any more time. You must purchase this trilogy, trust me, ITS WORTH IT.

Very Dark!! But, I loved it. This is my first book by this author and I'm glad I found her. I love dark stories, albeit a little gruesome. The writing was just incredible. The characters were deep and complicated which says so much about the author's writing ability. She put me right there in middle of everything as if I was a Voyeur taking in everything around me....Loved it & highly recommend it!

I didn't get past book one in this trilogy set. I'm a serial reader, I'm constantly reading so if a book doesn't drag me in I have to move on. Especially in series I always assume the first to be the weakest because it has to lay ground work for the rest of the series, but this one didn't hold enough interest for me to continue.

Cannot say that I would want to read this type of trilogy all the time but for a nightmare wonder once in a great while it was outstanding! Luisa and Javier’s trials and tribulations were horrific and brutal but with their life style it is typical. Also with his sister Alana included in the stories it made it complete.

Dirty Angels (Book 1)

Just when you think that Javier couldn’t be any more bad ass than he already was in the Artist Trilogy, Karina Halle completely blows all your expectations out of the water with Dirty Angels. I love Javier. Hands down, he is the only “bad guy” that I’ve ever loved. You seriously can’t help but love this wicked man despite how dirty, malicious, and appalling he can be. Honestly, Dirty Angels managed to defy all of my preconceived notions of how evil Javier could truly be, but it also showed a side of this complex man that we caught a brief glimpse of right before Ellie broke his cold heart. To say that I completely enjoyed this wild ride would be a gross understatement. I couldn’t put this book down from start to finish and I crave more.

Dirty Deeds (Book 2)

Well this is another kick-ass book, and the only thing that surprised me was that it wasn't nearly as dark as the first book was. Derek finds himself in a tight spot by falling for his mark, but nothing is as it seems and there is no one they can trust. He, in all honesty, really should have just gone with his gut, but then we wouldn't have had this great story. Overall, despite the lack of darkness we still have plenty of suspense that had me glued to the book. I seriously cannot wait for the next, and final, installment of this series. I must admit that it is going to be a tad bittersweet to finally say goodbye to Javier though.

Dirty Promises (Book 3)

I really had no words after reading this one to describe how good it was. It was so incredibly brutal, but yet in the end beautiful in its own way too. No question about it, Javier is evil so going into this book you know it isn't going to be a sweet romance story. I think Karina even surprised me with just how bad he could be, but in the end you still find yourself rooting for him. I still can't figure out why that is, because I've always been so firmly set on liking the good guys. I guess in this book what it boiled down to was the lesser of two evils, and boy oh boy was Esteban pure evil.

Dirty Promises is one hell of a roller coaster ride with plenty of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. It's going to make you question just how much you can handle, but then it throw you right past that point giving you far more than you ever thought you could. It's intense and wild and sexy and just sooo much more. You cannot read this as a stand-alone, so I highly suggest you read all of the Dirty Angels books before you even attempt to read this. Better yet, read the Artist series before that too, because it will truly give you a bigger picture on Jaiver's character. I've loved this series so much and I'm sad that this is the end, but I think Javier deserves to just rule his empire in what little peace he can find in his line of work.

Karina...once again you amazed me with your incredible talent. You are so mind-fuckingly brilliant I just can't handle it sometimes, so keep up the wonderful work! lol

This bundle with this beautiful new cover for only .99 cents is a gift. I am usually not a dark suspense romance reader but I make my exception when it comes to Karina Halle. Javier Bernal is one of the most complex, captivating, intense heroes. It does not matter how you feel about him, he will make you FEEL. Luisa is one of my favorite heroines. Fell in love with her in Dirty Angels and I just could not wait to finish reading Dirty Promises to see the resolution to their story. It is one heck of a journey and Karina will make you feel any unimaginable feeling.

Dirty Promises Review:
"Bloodsuckers never rest until they're full."

This book tested every imaginable comfort level there is when it comes to reading books. Karina Halle wrote an extraordinary story and kept things real. I have followed Javier Bernal since the beginning when he first appear in Karina's Artists Trilogy. He is one of those characters that you can' never forget. I hated him at the beginning but I had a turnaround in Dirty Angels. I needed to know how this story was going to end. What was going to happen, how so much pain and sorrow was going to be avenged and if Javier and Luisa could get past that.

"Someone had to believe in love. I had to believe. Even if I was a fool."
Amongst the gruesome reality of what is going on in the story we get slivers of light, of love, of laughter. I was craving those moments. I knew that Karina would give them to us. Moments like Luisa remembering her first time as a child when she experience how different classes worked in her country, when you could feel the soul of a man like Javier, when you could see that this woman wanted nothing more than to be his king's queen and even when a chicken feather brought console to a devastated soul. I needed those moments to keep me sane, to keep me focus.
Make no mistake about it, even in darkness this is romance and their love is like no other.
I am very impressed with Karina Halle's versatility in writing. And in here she takes it to another level that you just have to experience by reading the book.

It took a while before I could make myself read this series. It felt too dark and cruel for my liking, but since I loved all the other books by Karina Halle that I had read, I figured I could at least give them a try.
As soon as I turned the first page I was hooked I and I could't put the books down until I finished the very last page of the last book!
It was raw, dark, brutal, heartbleeding and cruel. But somehow Karina managed to make me take this story and tuck it close to my heart, made me love the characters and hate them at the same time.It was wierd reading these stories when you know that some of it happens in real life. For me it was very emotional, I cried more than once.It actually hurt, but still, I had to continue reading.Because that's what Karina Halle does to you with her words, her art - you simply have to.
If you read The Artist Trilogy you already met Javier Bernal, but it's not a must to have read these books before you start on The Dirty Angels books. I read DAT before TAT and I think I actually preferd it that way..

You simply MUST read this books BUT remember, this books are dark, there's violence, murders, drugs, sex, cartel stuff going on here ;) If you can't stand that kind at all maybe these books are not for you to read...They were different but oh so good!

Epic ... dark !

Wow this is an epic dark and at times gruesome read ..... You have been warned.

This trilogy is brilliantly written by Karina Halle, this boxed set is the first I've read from this author and I was very impressed !

You have a love hate relationship with some of the characters, but love or hate him Jarvier is something special ! Poor Luisa is really put through the mill but wow she is so strong and totally Jarviers equal.
Was really intrigued with the insight you get into the Mexican drug cartels. Scary stuff !

If you like dark and at times a disturbing read then you'll love this, highly recommend.

If you want hearts and flowers this is not for you .... !

Woah! Well that was a roller coaster ride to say the very least. An absolute must read, but only if you have a strong heart and an equally strong disposition. I always thought I was a pretty tough person, but I totally fell for one of the bad guys and even found myself rooting for him with this book! It gives just enough suspense and malice, with a side helping of romance along the way- is there anything better?

I finished the Artists trilogy and started to read this one. However I wasn't a fan of Javier's through the entire series, I never liked him, so I just couldn't get into this one. I tried to read it, but it didn't keep my attention, so I gave up.

Dirty & dark, and definitely not for the faint of heart, but very good.

Absolutely brilliant, the writing draws you in, it's intense, hot, dramatic, heart warming, yet totally brutal.
A must read that'll leave you in awe, very highly recommended.
