A Wrench Wars Story

What is “normal”?

When Brandon Kenner shows up at Kasey Ralston’s garage with a 1970 Chevelle SS 454, Kasey is smitten by both the man and his car. But Kasey is hiding an embarrassing secret: his love for old muscles goes beyond what most would consider normal. His unusual fetish has kept Kasey isolated—estranged from his family and even distant from his coworkers.

But when Brandon figures out the hot mechanic’s secret, he’s not repulsed. In fact, he finds Kasey intriguing, and he’s determined to have him for himself.

Everything about Brandon revs Kasey’s engine, and he’s more than willing to get down and dirty with the charming man. What worries Kasey is what will happen after. Is there any chance of a future for them? In the past, expecting anything long-term has only led to heartbreak. But Kasey can’t help hoping that, despite Kasey’s fetish, Brandon will be the exception.

3 1/2 Stars - sweet about needs in a different way - simply adorable

A new Marie Sexton story! Then I want to read it .

~**~**~**~**~**~**~**~

Kasey is working as an car mechanic and his 'speciality' is classic muscle cars. In many different ways. When a new customer, a neat pleasant, well-dressed young man, comes to the garage with his shiny 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS then it begins to roar of heat within Kasey.
‘She was beautiful. Perfect. And she called to him in a way that made his skin tingle and his groin tighten.’

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

The man, who turns out to be a lawyer named Brandon Kenner, immediately catch sight of Kasey's, slightly unusual high (hard) interest in the car. Here begins a nicely hot, kinky story about what our passions can be 'inflamed' by. ~ Lovely cute told.

Although it was a bit car-kinky, it was still at that tender cozy way I like. Romance not erotica.
‘Brandon moved close again, cornering Kasey against the Cougar's cold metal body. “This way, I know you'll be thinking about me. At last part of the time.”
The tought of driving the car made Kasey's knees wobble. It made his blood roar in his veins. “Whenever I drive it.”

These guys' story might actually be about to be accepted, seen for who you are and met properly. They stole my heart. ~ The (former) lonely, so very timid Kasey and the amazing Brandon, was simply a perfect match.

~**~**~**~**~**~**~**~

There was really only one shortcoming... Normal Enough was far too short (max 75-100 pages). It would easily have evolved into something much longer. There were so many important and interesting issues (see the title) to talk further about. But in its form, it was still perfect.
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Sigh, so cute... this was an incredibly sweet little gem. A perfect amusing, slightly filthy, short, between-books reading.

I LIKE - sweet smutty fun...

“So in other words, I may be a freak, but you like it?”

“Let’s just say, I think you’re abnormal in the best possible way.”

There is little to none connection with the first book in the series. It’s not only that the author is a different one but that there is just a mention or two of the Wrench Wars TV program. That’s all about it. So if you expect the characters from the previous story to appear, you’ll be disappointed.

Once you come to terms with that, there is no reason not to enjoy this story. It’s entertaining, there are lots of hot scenes considering the few pages, and the MCs are endearing enough. I admit I thought this book would be a forgettable story, but then there was this little fact that made it stand out from the rest: certain muscle cars turn Kasey on. And Brandon has a “fetish of fetishes”.

I think that’s the strong asset of this book. Characters that are in close of the limits of the “normal” range who find in each other the acceptance they fear they can’t find anywhere else, at leas ton Kasey’s case. Brandon is more confident in what he wants and, unabashedly, he seeks it.

Not very extreme at all. There is no “car sexualization” but it was odd enough to awake and maintain my curiousity for the short while the novel lasted.

Maybe sometimes it’s forced. When Brandon numbers all the boyfriends he has had in his life (he’s not that old, and apparently, he has a busy job and lots of money, but he certainly found the time to meet interesting people out there), each one of them with a certain fetish, I had to suspend disbelief.

Also, I didn’t welcome the prospect of imagining Brandon getting tired of Kasey after a short while, which is the same thing that comes up to Kasey’s mind at this stage of their relationship. Then of course comes the resolution of things and Brandon soothing Kasey’s fears. I wasn’t convinced enough of his explanation and assurance that he plans to be with Kasey for a very long time. The reason is that the book is very short for that and the author didn’t manage to give a deep feeling to the situation, so I couldn’t feel this statement to be really true, or truly real. It needed more time in the oven to make this a properly cooked meal.

The family issue was a little lost on me. It was well done but I don’t exactly know what purpose it serves for the main story. It felt like a parellel storyline rather than a complement of the romantic one.

What I really loved here: the sex scene via Skype in the car. And the full-contact sex scene in the car (a different one).

The story finishes at 84%.

I don’t know why I keep associating Marie Sexton with clean, straightforward romance, when she HAS written stories with fetishes, even ménage and orgy scenes before. I think the Coda series ruined me because that is how I associated her with -- something sweet. Because of that, I admit that I was a bit hesitant at first about whether to enjoy the story or not. My reaction to Kasey’s fetish was like … uhm, wait, was this going to be porn-y? I didn’t really read the blurb about fetish when I requested this *laugh*.

Having said that, I thought the fetish itself wasn’t off-putting. . But Kasey was ashamed of it and he distanced himself from everyone. I wanted to hug him bad. Kasey was just so sweet and so unsure about himself – he was so embarrassed and so worried that his fetish was wrong; he was worried about being judged as not normal.

I liked that Brandon challenged him on that (“Define normal”, Brandon asked) – ALTHOUGH, I wasn’t really sure about Brandon throughout. The history of all his lovers made me question his intention towards Kasey. Maybe because I loved Kasey so much, I was a bit protective of him. I wanted to act all big-sister-y and demanded Brandon to explain what he wanted out of the relationship *haha*. I knew that Brandon was able to help Kasey out of his shell, but I still didn’t truly believe in them. I probably needed more chapters…

There was a B-plot about Kasey’s older brother who wanted to mend the years of estrangement and I loved it. I wish it was shown more than just phone calls though – since I’m a sucker for a family reunion.

So it still had Marie Sexton’s signature on lovable characters. The ending was more HFN and I wasn’t in love with the endearments (yes, yes, Sexton was using “baby”, and I hated it, but that was my issue) but overall, it was an enjoyable novella.

This was very sweet and very short, and more than a little underwhelming.

Kasey is a lonely mechanic living in a trailer with his dog. He's shy and connects with cars far better than he does with people. Brandon is a lawyer who collects classic cars. When Brandon brings in a car from his collection for Kasey to repair, he quickly realizes Kasey has a car fetish, and Brandon is all about fetishes.

The car fetish thing isn't a spoiler. We are told immediately that's what Kasey's into, and it's not particularly kinky. Sex and cars seem to go together.

Marie Sexton is a strong writer, but this novella barely scratched the surface of what could have been a great novel. There was little relationship development, and while I was happy Kasey had a realization about his life, I felt that there was a lot jammed into an unrealistically short timeframe. I wanted to see these MCs interact more. I wasn't sure they had much in common besides sex and cars and sex in cars. I wanted a much stronger ending. There was definitely a HFN, but it left me slightly annoyed. I really liked Kasey's character, and to have things left so uncertain...well, would an epilogue be too much to ask for?

Kasey is a mechanic. Estranged from his older brother, the only person left in his family, he's pretty introverted and keeps himself to himself, throws himself into his work, loves his dog Bandit and works quietly alongside his colleagues. Even though he gets on reasonably well with them, he shies away from any social contact. One of his workmates, Tony, never fails to ask him to go for a beer after work but every time had politely refuses ... and so his life plods on.

Then one day he's asked to go look at a car a client brings in and when he gets there he finds its a classic 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS. Now Kasey has a secret fetish and it just so happens to be something to do with his teenage years, certain magazines and his love of classic muscle cars.

Then he meets the owner, Brandon Kenner, who looks like he's just stepped out of the pages of a GQ magazine! Both car and man out of his league, or so he thinks! They go for a spin to find out whats wrong with car and during the drive Kasey is mortified when Brandon notices his reaction to being inside the car of his dreams, and lets just say its a pretty full on 'physical' response so its not just the stick shift standing to attention!

Brandon's own reaction to this is completely different to what Kasey expects, and as he leaves, he tells an embarrassed Kasey to look after his car but to also:

"enjoy her any way you want..."

Kasey is left feeling awkward and shame -faced but the lure of Brandon's invitation is too good to miss so he does exactly that and not long after finds out that Brandon has some fetishes of his own. So starts a seductive, sensual relationship between two completely opposite guys and one smoking car! In true Marie Sexton style though, this is definitely not just PWP! There's far more to it than that and that's why I got totally engrossed.

I loved this little story. Its hot and sexy, as you'll gather but its not all sex and sizzle. What we do get is smoking hawt but there's also a really beguiling, captivating love story running alongside the heat and as the story progresses and the initial attraction and lust between them turns to true romance, Kasey also slowly starts to come out of his shell, opening himself more to the people around him, and past hurts begin to heal. I'd go as far as to say this is basically a very sweet (not sickly) satisfying romance.

Brandon is kind and gorgeous, Kasey is endearing and quietly loveable and the car kink is a perfect accompaniment to the story. One of my fave scenes is a sexy, voyeuristic interlude inside the car involving a mini ipad, face time and two very turned on guys! The only downside? I got so immersed I didn't want it to end. I wanted more so I'll be revisiting Kasey and his kink a fair bit I think. Another winner for me.

There were only 2 good things in this book and those were Kasey and his kink. The writing is so ..unattractive . Brandon was meh and sorry but I really don’t think you can have that expensive car collection on a lawyer salary.

Mechanic Kasey Ralston has a kinky secret: certain classic muscle cars turn him on. When the wealthy Brandon Kenner brings one of his oldies into Reggie’s garage for a minor repair, Kasey has to take a test drive with Brandon. Kasey’s fetish is so uncontrollable that Brandon is easily able to spot that something is up…more than a little something if you know what I mean. And you know what? Brandon doesn’t think that Kasey is a freak at all; he's more intrigued than he has been in a long time (turns out Brandon has more than a little fetish for men with unique fetishes). Anyway, Brandon decides to have a little fun with Kasey by encouraging him to “enjoy” his car…

I really enjoyed this. Two men who seem to be total opposites. Here you have Kasey, quiet and introverted, living in a rundown trailer with his dog and doesn’t even speak to his family. Then you have Brandon, a successful lawyer who travels across the country leaving his cat alone for days at a time. BUT, both have a passion for classic cars. Both are lonely. Both are just a little bit kinky. And that is what really brings them together.

In the beginning, I was really into the sexual tension between Kasey and Brandon. I mean come on, the FaceTime scene was one of the hottest masturbation scenes I’ve read in forever. Unfortunately, once they finally had real sex, the story lost a bit of intensity for me and ran out of steaminess.

I liked both Kasey and Brandon, I really did, but in the end, I wasn’t convinced that these two would have a lasting relationship beyond the bedroom…or car. They are just too different and the story wasn’t long enough to show me how they would interact when they were together and not having sex.

Then there is the whole issue with Kasey’s brother. I think they’ve taken a step in the right direction, but I’m not sure if I believe that anything will change between them.

If there would have been even a tiny epilogue, I may have been more convinced that a HEA could be possible, but right now, its left at a HFN.

Hot and sweet with some fine machinery.

I was more turned on by the cars and sex in cars--ahem, reminiscing--than the characters themselves. Seriously, this has one of the hottest in car sex scenes I've read in a long awhile--like can't remember, but boy does it take me back to being a teenager. Fond memories of parking brakes, gear shifts and steering wheel maneuverings. And thank god for bench seats! "Yeah mom, can't take the Vette cause of the snow. Got the Buick."

The guys themselves are totally sweet and adorable and it is a lovely story that brings a smile.

Normal Enough is the next novella in the “Wrench wars” series by Marie Sexton. Like the previous book, this one also would have been nice if stretched to a real novel than a 4 chapter novella. It was an enjoyable read with a HFN ending.

Kasey is a mechanic who has a car fetish. He gets aroused by muscle cars and is more comfortable with them than he is with actual people. It has been his secret for a long time and Kasey considers that he is not normal for having urges like that. Enter Brandon. He is a swanky lawyer with a sexy hobby of collecting vintage muscle cars. He is just the guy Kasey needs. Brandon figures out Kasey’s fetish from the very first day and encourages him in engaging in a few very hot car sex. It takes a little time but Brandon is finally able to make Kasey realize that he is “Normal Enough”.

I liked the characters. Kasey was sweet and shy but totally turned into a sex kitten when he was with Brandon or in one of his cars. This story was more about Brandon helping Kasey out of his shell and making him accept his fetish as normal and desirable.

Along with the romance, there was the side plot of Kasey connecting with his brother and his work colleague Tony. Kasey was always ignored by his roughneck father and brothers and after he comes out, it became worse. He has always been alone and afraid of people judging him. After all these years Kasey is not alone anymore. He has a family now who loves him, a boyfriend who accepts him and a good friend in Tony.

All in all, it was a short and sweet read. I would surely loved it more if it was a little longer but that cannot be helped, considering it being a novella.

I really enjoyed this little Marie Sexton shortie. For one - I loved the fetish. Simply because it's a rather unusual one, and I was totally in the mood for something a little bit kinky. And the sex was hot! Thumbs up for that!
For another, Kasey is a pretty adorable character, and I liked him a lot. He really develops over the course of this story, allows his experience with Brandon to influence his self-assessment and his reaction to other people's friendly overtures towards him. Which does him a load of good, believe me.

My big drawback in this story was, that it happened all too quickly. Kasey's development did, his relationship with Brandon, his steps towards his brother. And I'm not even talking "quickly" in terms of actual time. I mean "quickly" as in the story didn't take enough time to flesh it out. With all the components here, this story could have easily been 100 pages longer. And there a lot of events or story parts not included that I really missed. For example, I'd have liked to see an actual merging of two worlds - for whatever Brandon says about his past, his present situation is as different from Kasey's as it can get and I think difficulties are basically guaranteed. And I really would have loved seeing Kasey integrate himself more into his coworkers' lives.

I understand that all that would have probably busted the parameters set by the Grease Monkey series this is a part of. But to me, this story would have been quite a bit more satisfying if they were included nevertheless.

I liked this story. But I'd really like to know more about where this going.

All of the kinks books I have ever read, this one is the stranger. I mean, turn on over a car? You tell me! LOL
But I'm glad I read this book. This is somehow sweet, fluffy, love/lust at first sight.
I'm glad Kasey is finally found someone who understood about his kink and has a kink of a guy with a kink. Look at Brandon's exes...he was made for Kasey for sure.
But again, this story is too short and I'm a sucker for an epilogue. I felt uncertain about their future together.
Anyway, this is fun and enjoyable read for me. Not a stellar one, but at some point, entertaining.

Story about a mechanic who gets off by getting off in cars and a car enthusiast with an enthusiasm with helping him do just that.

A short HFN with the possibility of something more with some nicely detailed characters considering the length and a sweet story with lots of car sex. Nice!

Okay short story, though it did require a heavy suspension of belief, particularly around how Brandon first propositions Kasey, which felt very aggressive and intense and kind of threw me out of the story. I also thought the fetish was *so* mild that it was hard for me to understand Kasey's intense shame around it. Still decent writing, and a sweet story overall.

Everybody has their thing. You know, what gets you all hot and bothered. Could be lingerie or leather. Maybe it’s a secret spot behind your ear or along your hip bone. Or perhaps it’s an aroma or taste. For Kasey, his thing is a bit more peculiar and particular. He likes cars, but not just any car. A short list of primo cars light his fire and he’s ashamed of this secret. It seems bizarre and abnormal to him but he can’t deny the intense physical reaction he has when he is breathing in the essence of hot rods. He’s not much of a people person and would rather have the quiet comfort of the shop. He works hard and plays little but he feels safe in his simple life. He hasn’t any friends and avoids the miniscule family he has left. He never fit in with his family and after his dad ridiculed him he walked away without a backwards glance. He has his job which he loves and takes great pride in and he has his beloved dog, but that pretty much sums up his assets.

He is happy…he thinks. When a stranger roars into his life with his hard muscle cars and sexy bod, he’s thrown off kilter. And when Brandon pursues him he really doesn’t know what to do. Why would a wealthy handsome man want him? He has nothing to offer him, does he? He is better off alone…right? Brandon doesn’t think so and neither do I. You’ll just have to read and decide which side you’re on.

What's to like: Did you check out the cover? Ohhhh my! Brandon is scrumptious and his smirky smile completes the package. I liked that the shop talk wasn’t over my head. It was just the right amount without being overbearing. I really enjoyed watching Kasey come out of his shell. The story was light-hearted and the angst was almost non-existent. It was a wonderful and tasty palate cleanser to go in between my angstier reads. I always enjoy Ms. Sexton and it was lovely to meet this opposites-attract pair. The reality show was there but in the background. And I caught the set up for the next book in the series and look forward to it.

What's to love: Racy, steamy and kinky fun! Which is all good entertainment but what I really loved was the message Brandon delivers. He helps Kasey recognize his worth and shines light on his wonderful qualities. Kasey’s self-esteem needs a boost as well as his confidence. Brandon shows him that shy is endearing but degrading is an unfavorable characteristic. We should all celebrate our quirks and relish in what makes us special. I loved that Brandon opened Kasey’s eyes to the wonders of himself.

Beware of: I gotta admit that I was really perturbed that the actual story ended nearly 15% early. This is a huge personal peeve of mine. I like previews and blurbs but not tacked on after the end of a story. This really isn’t the best promotional tactic in my opinion.

This book is for: Wrench Wars fans will want to check this one out, it continues on with the series but it’s not crucial to read them in order. If you enjoy a bit of voyeuristic pleasure and like hard steel adorned with leather, I imagine you will be thoroughly gratified with this sexy novella.

Short, but sweet, and I liked the premise but only really felt like I got to know Kasey and missed getting to know more about Brandon.

Kasey is a shy and lonely mechanic who stays under everyone's radar and doesn't call attention to himself. He is also very turned on by particular classic muscle cars.

When Brandon, a lawyer who collects classic cars, brings in a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 for Kasey to repair, he quickly realizes Kasey has a car fetish, and Brandon has a thing for guys with fetishes. Brandon pursues Kasey, and though Kasey doesn’t have very high self-esteem, Brandon eventually breaks down some of Kasey's walls.
“I don’t want you to leave me alone. But I can’t figure out why, of all the guys in the world, you seem to have chosen me.”
“Because you’re cute, and sexy, and sweet. Because I find your shyness endearing. Because you’re employed. Because we’re passionate about the same things. Because your ego isn’t bigger than a house, and after dating around for a while, I know that’s not an easy thing to find. Because you like dogs. Because I find you intriguing. Do I need to go on?”
Kasey ducked his head, smiling despite himself. Nobody had ever said so many nice things about him. Not since his mom had died, at any rate. “Uh… no. That’s enough.”
“Good.”

Though there are some good bones here, and I enjoyed what I got to read, I felt like we didn't really have the relationship development I would have liked to see. I would have definitely preferred a longer story with more interaction between Kasey and Brandon and not feeling like so much got stuffed into such a short timeframe. Finally, I also would have really liked an epilogue or something more tangible to set the HFN or give a solid HEA.

I do enjoy a hot, sexy story involving a fetish. Now, I hesitate to tell what Kasey's fetish is, but believe me when I say I didn't think it was weird. I thought it was hot. Normal is a relative term and I try to use it very sparingly. What's normal to me might not be to someone else and vice versa. 'Normal Enough' by Marie Sexton is, surprisingly, a sweet short story mixed in with all the combustible sex you can imagine.

Kasey can't believe it when he meets Brandon and Brandon doesn't think Kasey is a freak or abnormal because of Kasey's desire. In fact, Brandon encourages it, and even wants to spend more time with Kasey. Kasey is almost in shock since he stays far away from people as they usually make him feel stupid or they ridicule him. Kasey doesn't see the gorgeous man that Brandon sees when he looks at Kasey. But, somehow, Kasey begins to open up to Brandon about his sad and lonely childhood, his older brothers who left him an outcast, and his fear that his dad wasn't really his dad. Kasey is shocked to discover that Brandon grew up in a household much like Kasey's and Brandon never fit in there.

You might not believe me when I say that this is a sweet and gentle, albeit sizzling, love story, but it really is. Brandon is so patient and understanding with Kasey's shyness and social anxiety. The fact that Brandon has been in relationships with other men who had unusual fetishes, and that Brandon admits that he's hot for people with fetishes, is reassuring for Kasey, in a way. Kasey learns a lot about himself, through his own introspection, and I adored watching him "find" himself.

A wonderful short story that is super sexy and volatile. I look forward to re-reading it often!

So this may be another case of review the book you read, not the book you wanted to read. I say that for all the other reviewers out there. Me? I adored this story. Kasey's fetish cracked me up when I realized what it was. Then I thought back to all those times as a kid that I used to sit in my dad's wrecked Super Sport and pretend I was driving away from my life to ...somewhere, anywhere. I still remember the bright red interior and the Michelin man key chain. I guess I'm just lucky I was young enough all I thought about in that car was getting away or I could have turned out very differently. :)

Kasey's a sweet young guy who's embarrassed by his fetish. He keeps himself away from his coworkers and doesn't really have friends because of it. When Brandon rolls into his life, it's kismet. Brandon is exactly who Kasey needs at that point in his life. Is he the man he needs for the rest of his life? Who knows or cares? They develop a bond and Brandon helps Kasey to realize that he really is Normal Enough. Kasey's character growth throughout this short book is huge and brilliantly handled. I would love to peek into Kasey's world again in a few years.

This is a novella, so there isn't time to delve deeply into all the plot threads, but that's okay. If you read it for what is there, you'll enjoy it a lot more. We're left with hope for Kasey's future and maybe for Kasey and Brandon as a couple. It's an HFN because Kasey is just beginning his journey and that is perfect.
