Alternate cover edition of ASIN: B01IMKZQX0

The Kordolians are loose on the asteroid mining station Fortuna Tau, and first-rank mechanic Jia Morgan has become caught up in the thick of things. Under the careful watch of these steely-eyed silver warriors, Jia and her team have been tasked with repairing the hull of the Kordolians’ Alpha-Class battle cruiser, Silence.
The problem is, their alien technology is far, far beyond anything she’s seen before, and whatever they try to weld to Silence’s black hull just won’t stick.
When Jia goes in search of a tool that might actually penetrate the warship’s impossibly strong Callidum exterior, she find herself being aided by a most unlikely source. The hard-faced warrior who’s decided to accompany her walks on silent feet and carries a big, big gun. He’s equal parts scary and attractive, in an otherworldly sort of way.
But although Jia finds this Kordolian fascinating, she’s not even going to try and get close to him, because, well, he’s a freaking Kordolian, and Kordolians aren’t exactly known throughout the Nine Galaxies for being nice and warm and fuzzy.
Instead, she’s going to do her job and fix their warship, because that’s the only way these intimidating warriors are ever going to leave Fortuna Tau. Hopefully, they won’t break anything, or anyone, on the way out.
Oh, and there’s also the small matter of these flesh-eating insect-aliens called Xargek. Apparently, they bite.

Warning: This book is a science-fiction alien romance. It contains swearing, violence, sensual sex scenes and silver aliens with fangs. It's definitely recommended for readers aged 18 and over.

Out of Darkness is Book Four in the Dark Planet Warriors Series. It will make more sense if you've read the other books first, although that's probably not absolutely essential.

Loved this one! Best of the series.

It was uncomplicated. Jia was brave and sweet. Kalan was awesome. He knew what he wanted and unapologetically went for it! I liked that there was very little push/pull.

The best of the series so far!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😳🤬😮🤨

The heroine: Jia Morgan - she lives and works on the asteroid mining station Fortuna Tau. She is a mechanic is assigned to repair damage to General Tarak’s main warship, Silence. Jia can’t believe she is finding herself attracted to a fierce Kordolian warrior.

The Hero: Kalan - a Kordolian Warrior, second in command to General Tarak. He is overseeing the repairs being done to Alpha-Class battle cruiser, Silence. While the repairs are being done, he is doing bodyguard duty and keeping an eye on Jia. Kalan finds he enjoys keeping his eye on Jia but is confused as to why he can’t keep his eyes off the tiny human.

The Story: If you have read any of the previous books, you know what happens on Fortuna Tau, and this book takes place within the same timeline as some of the prior books. We know that a few of the Xargek (huge bug-like creatures, similar to large cock-roaches) were on the station and they are not only deadly, but can multiply very quickly and infest a station or a planet in no time if they are not found and destroyed.

While fighting the Xargek, Kalan finds himself wanting to make sure Jia is safe and wanting to protect her despite the fact that she is braver than a lot of the humans on the station. The romance was great in this one, as they spent quite a bit of time getting to know each other. There were some steamy scenes and quite a bit of action and adventure. This was the best book in this series so far.

Now for Abby's friend, Jia's story ; )
I didn't find this one as intriguing as Abby's story, but I liked it better than book 2.

Jia is an engineer and very self posessed. Kalan is the bad-ass Kordolian who falls for her. It's not insta love and it was fun reading about his shift in the way he views her.

We pick up the story from just before Abby's accident at the start of book one, but from the POVs of Kalan and Jia. I loved both MCs!
Jia joins forces with Kalan and the Kordolians left behind with him to take out the Xargek. It doesn't help that some humans have decided to stir the pot. So it all becomes a big SNAFU. Good humans and bad humans and laid back Kordolians.

I enjoyed every minute of it!

Safety is good.

Best of the series so far. Even if the reading order's wonky (Bk 1,4,5,7,2,3,4.5,6,8), once you know it, and get to the books in the proper order, the overarching storyline is much better for it.

The worldbuilding was good, the action kept the narrative hopping and best of all, the romance worked. Jia and Kalan growing closer was fun to read, they had an attraction but it didn't dive head first into ILUs and when it did happen, there were actual conversations to allow the reader to understand it. Yes, it was a little repetitive at times, and yes the action is still stronger than anything else, but I liked it and I'm looking forward to Book 5.

"Ooh, that Kordolian. He was relentless, opportunistic and stubborn."

Add in tender, possessive and protective, and you have Anna Carven's newest Dark Planet hero, Kalan. He is well matched by Jia, the intuitive mechanic on the outpost mining station.

Carven's fourth installment in the Dark Planet series takes us back a little in time to shortly after the Kordolian's have landed on Fortuna Tau for repairs. What happened on the mining station after the Xargec horde was loose was a bit of a plot hole in the previous books, and Carven has very satisfactorily filled that hole with pulse-pounding excitement and a romantic entanglement for another member of the elite First Division soldiers.

Under orders from the General (see Tarak's story in Dark Planet Warriors: The Complete Serial and Into the Light), Kalan is definitely not supposed to "sample the exotic fruit." Happily for us, he cannot quench his appetite for Jia, who fascinates, frustrates and enlightens him all at the same time. The story is told in alternating viewpoints, which gets the reader in the head of both Jia and Kalan. Carven excels in making her characters, smart, brave and likable. She also knows how to write an action sequence. The bug fighting reminded me a little of the viciousness of the battles in Starship Troopers (I've seen the movie, but not read the book). Add in a betrayal by the company running the mining station, and all the humans and Kordolians on the outpost are in mortal danger.

I enjoy how Carven paces a book. The surprising plot twists are interspersed with romantic anticipation (and gratification). Her books are page turners for solid sci-fi, action-adventure and deepening love affairs between humans and aliens.

The author also starts story threads that aren't quite finished. In this book I wondered, even at the end, about Kalan's nightmares and why his memory wasn't completely intact and was surprised at the lack of background we knew about Jia. Will this be revealed in a second story for Kalan and Jia? Will there be a new story about the freighter and a new Kordolian/human couple? Although I would consider this book a capable standalone with a solid HEA, and even though these kernels frustrate me, I will most definitely be back for more Dark Planet stories.

3.5 - 4 stars

Out of Darkness by Anna Carven is a fun, tension filled, alien warrior romance tale that gets better and better.

Humans working on a space station Foruna Tau, find their lives turned upside, when the big bad Kordolians land. Jia works on the space station, has never seen anyone like these warriors, but they are kind of sexy. Large with silver skin, pointy-ears hotty warriors that almost make you want to stay away.

A big bad warrior finds himself trying to save Jia from the bugs that have invaded the space station; his little human soon becomes an obsession. He vows she is his and will stop at nothing to protect his mate.

What ensues is mayhem, chaos, action, sexy, sizzling, tension, and much more. If you like sci-fi romance, then look no further.

Enjoyable, highly recommend

Enjoyed re-visiting this world and characters. Highly recommend for anyone who likes science fiction romance or romance with interesting characters.

The book takes a small step back in time to focus on those left behind on Fortuna Tau mining space station. Non-stop action from beginning to end as Jia deals with the Kordolians, especially her Kordolian, and the Xargek that the Kordolians are hunting and, of course, the human villains.

Hints are dropped about Kordolian details that are revealed more thoroughly in other books in the series.

This book can definitely be read alone. Though when you're done you'll want to go and read the other books to find out what happened to the Kordolians and human that left the station.

Looking forward to other books by this author.

I'm loving this series...

This installment overlaps the timeline of previous books but gives us the story on the space station before it's . We follow Jia who is an awesome mechanic and majorly drawn to the mysterious and bad-ass Kalan.

Lot's of action as they battle the Xargek infestation. Jia and Kalen start to trust each other and some smexy feelings develop.

Can't wait for more.

(Spoilers Below)

Book 1: A group of enhanced Kordolian warriors landed on Fortuna Tau, a small mining station. They unknowingly brought the Xargek, cockroach-like aliens. The h fell while trying to avoid one, and crushed both her legs. The H takes her to his home planet to give her his nanites to heal her. It ends with them being mated and traveling to Earth.

Oil mining Kordolian warriors were left at the mining facility to kill the Xargek. Kalan, second to General Tarak (Book 1 MC), is now in charge.

This story follows Kalan and Jia, a human mechanic, as they battle the Xargek, and mercenaries hired by a secret organization determined to stop the Kordolians from reaching Earth at all costs.

My Thoughts: The nearly nonstop action was good, but the romance wasn't. It felt wrong that the MCs were always sexually aroused when the Xargek were multiplying quickly and eating people. The humans were in danger, but Kalan only protected Jia. They went too quickly from lust ➡ sex ➡ love/mates.

This book quote says it all:
It was definitely the wrong time and the wrong place.

Everyone feared the deadly Kordolian warriors, but not Jia. She's brave and outspoken like Abbey in Book One. Unfortunately, we don't learn anything about her except her job.

Kalan, used to fighting alone, is happy to find someone who cares about him. He suffers from night terrors. His eyes are the wrong color. Kordolians believe that children born with his eye color are cursed by the Goddess.

It ends with the MCs, along with the humans and Kordolians from the mining station, on planet Earth. The near-invincible Xargex made a nest in the catacombs beneath the Sahara Desert, and the humans need their help fighting them.

💞 Final Words:
♥️ “You are the part of me that was missing for so long,” he said again, as he had told her so many times before. “And now that I’ve found you, Jia of Earth, I am never letting you go.”
♥️ “Likewise, Kalan of Kythia,” she replied, as she fell into his warm embrace.

📕 More About the Book: 📕

Cockroach silhouette There was no obvious pattern to the Xargek attacks. No-one knew where they came from, or what they wanted. They just appeared from time to time, causing death and destruction wherever they went. A bit like Kordolians.

The Action:
🔸The Xargek are fought on the station.
🔸Mercenaries attach a bomb to the nuclear reactor core. The station has to be evacuated.
🔸Most of the humans and Kordolians leave on a large human freighter.
🔸The MCs and a few others take the mercenaries' cruiser. The MCs have sex. Kalan fights the red-stripe Xargex. After a battle with more mercenaries, they have to parachute to Earth.
🔸They land in the water and swim to an island. Jia feeds an injured Kalan, and gets them a room at a resort where they have sex.

The Ongoing Antagonists:
🔹The Xargek.
🔹The Kordolian Empire (empress, nobles & council)
🔹The Corporation. A secret organization on Earth.

💦 The sex scenes are wetter and less sexy. 🤢
The virgin h asks the H to give it to her "as rough as you like, and not treat me as if I'm some delicate flower." No mention of her being a virgin, no discomfort when an alien that is much larger and has a huge erection slams into her.

(Jia) ▪️ I want you to f*ck me.
▪️ "I need you to f*ck me, Kalan."
▪️ Jia lost herself as he f*cked her again and again.
▪️ Jia screamed. He f*cked her even harder.
▪️ "Just hurry up and f*ck me, Kalan," she moaned.

After reaching Earth, there's a month's time jump with the readers being told rather than shown what happened. The next book will fill in this gap.

I'll be reading book 3 (listed as #5) next.

Silver skinned, alien males with white hair and six pack abs. They rescue humans from an infested rust bucket of a space station that is falling apart at the seams. They have fangs and nanobot armor. And who would have thought, they are physiologically compatible with humans. LOL. It's the usual trope but it's what I'm into this past year. It's available through KU.

"Uh, Hendrix II, this is the . . ."
She glanced at one of the mercenaries, raising an eyebrow. "Black Rhino," he mumbled.

description

It had all the elements of the other books that I loved, but ultimately my lower rating for this boiled down to the fact that there was too much horny too unrealistically . Like, maybe wait 'til you're somewhat home free before getting all hot and heavy?? Also, Jia being a virgin didn't feel super realistic in here but that's just my view of it . . . And one time doesn't equal mates I thought in this universe?????

Also, the repetitive writing habits this author slips into was REALLY a feature in here & something I've noticed a lot in this series. But no matter what, this was another fun installment and this author's strength is definitely the action scenes and spaceship aesthetic vibes.

The story of Jia and Kalan was a fast paced, space adventure read. I liked how the characters meet and connect early on. The alien bug invasion kept up the drama. I liked Jia, she is an independent woman who knows her engineering field. I liked that. Jia becomes his mate after their first romp though and I don't know that I could really say why Kalan liked her so deeply and quickly. I would have preferred the love to grow a bit more slowly. But it was entertaining and easy to read. Pretty sure I'll read the others as there seems like there is plenty of fodder there for more tales.

The hero in this addition to the Dark Planet Warriors Series by Anna Carven is ridiculous and I love him. He has been altered to be a super solider and he was already a badass alien.

He is grumpy. He falls head over heels for a kick ass mechanic heroine. They have great adventures and mega sexy times. Good stuff.

Enjoy!

I am reading these in chronological order instead of series order.

I like these two. The snark wasn't there like in the first, which is understandable with a different heroine. This was very sweet compared to the first

This book occurs at the same time as book 1, but while Abbey and Tarak leave the space station, this is what happens on the asteroid planet after they leave.

Jia and Kalan are both interesting enough. I liked that he saw lots of traits in her that he admired, and how he was really softened by her (love that shit).

Ultimately this book was really plot/action heavy, it felt like every passage was them “doing” something rather than just BEING together, if that makes sense. Books that are very action driven tend to have less emotional/relationship development which I prefer.

Honey & Definitive Initiative

In this book, we follow Jia, an outspoken mechanic and an abnormal First Division Warrior Kordolian named Kalan. He's an aberration amongst his own kind however this distinct feature magnetizes Jia's attraction to him. She's no damsel in distress however she acknowledges her own limitations amongst the creepy crawling and deliciously dangerous two legged variety of aliens. Kalan navigates his own challenges and emotions with his interactions with Jia. I love how the author expands on each heroine and First Division Warrior while synchronously flowing into the next book. The initial scene, gives a Wild West standoff a run for its money. Exquisite immersion and an a series that is definitely worth a read and then some.

Book 4 takes us back to the space station and all the insanity going on there as the Kordolians brood and glower while the Humans attempt to repair their ship. Just kidding, those big silver aliens don't ONLY brood and glower. They also kick some bug-alien booty when things get dicey.

And, guys, THINGS DO GET DICEY.

As in, mercenaries are causing trouble, alien bugs are causing even more trouble--or maybe an equal amount, I don't know. THINGS HAPPEN. 'Splosions and acidic blood splatter type things. It's great.

Fortunately for Jia, Kalan, Tarak's second in command, takes a liking to her and she ends up with her very own Kordolian bodyguard. Seriously, it's fortunate because things go south pretty quickly and it's doubtful either she or any of the other humans would have survived if Kalan and his men hadn't stepped in to help. And the only reason Kalan intervenes is because Jia asks.

I've enjoyed this entire series, but I really liked the close, claustrophobic confines of the space station. Aliens that spew acidic gunk and a space station hanging precariously in the void are a rather volatile mix. In other words, I sort of loved it!

Out of Darkness is a fun, sexy romp aboard an asteroid mining station that's been infested by alien larvae that grow up to something akin to the xenomorphs. Good guy but grumpy bad ass alien warrior takes a liking to a human mechanic, whom he rescues and they get to speed around the station, killing alien bugs and human mercenaries alike, and just plain saving the day. There's no conflict between the couple, just a race to get out alive and back to planet Earth. It's fun escapism, plain and simple.

From virgin to sex vixen in 2 seconds... A lot of sex. Why the heroine had to be a virgin remains a mystery.
Made her not exactly more relatable.
And made it hard to believe that she is such a sensual being.

Pro Tip: If you want us to believe someone really is into something, it might not help with credibility if this person stays away from this thing all their life.

It was mostly boring, to be honest.

I can say that, yes, this book is good overall. But I found Kalan went from a scary dark character to a bit of sappy character. I wanted him to keep his fierceness when he started falling for Jia. Enjoyed the book anyways!
