Philippians: A Handbook on the Greek Text

Rate this book
In this volume, William Varner provides a foundational analysis of the Greek text of Philippians. Distinguished by the detailed yet comprehensive attention paid to the Greek text, Philippians is a convenient pedagogical and reference tool that explains the form and syntax of the biblical text, offers guidance for deciding between competing semantic analyses, engages important text-critical questions, and addresses questions relating to the Greek text that are frequently overlooked or ignored by standard commentaries. Beyond serving as a succinct and accessible analytic key, Philippians also reflects the most recent advances in scholarship on Greek grammar and linguistics. By filling the gap between popular and technical commentaries, the handbook becomes an indispensable tool for anyone committed to a deep reading of the biblical text.

Does what it says on the cover. I'm no Greek expert so I cannot critique the opinions of Varner, but he appears to have done an excellent job. Personally, I prefer the graphical layout and focus on literary structure found in the similar series produced by B&H.
