The Conservative Case for Trump

Rate this book
<!--[if gte mso 9]> <![endif]--> “As a tribute to the late, great Phyllis Schlafly, I hope everybody can go out and get her latest book, The Conservative Case for Trump .” —Donald Trump Phyllis Schlafly passed away on September 5, 2016, the day before the release of this book. In it, she addresses her fellow conservatives with a passionate plea to ignore establishment kingmakers and support controversial GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. “The stakes are unmistakably high,” Schlafly writes in the introduction. “I know that some well-meaning conservatives find Trump puzzling or even offensive, but I trust that this book—the culmination, for me, of more than seventy years of active involvement in Republican politics—might help sway them.” Schlafly, the conservative icon whose celebrated classic A Choice Not An Echo (over 3 million copies sold) upended the 1964 Republican Convention, persuasively argues that Donald Trump is worthy of every conservative’s vote. Joined by Ed Martin, the former head of the Missouri Republican Party, and Brett Decker, formerly an editorial writer with the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Times , Schlafly presents the real Trump, the Trump she and her colleagues have met with and interviewed, the Trump who is far more conservative than you think.

In The Conservative Case for Trump , Schlafly

1. How Trump’s appointees to the Supreme Court (on which Schlafly advised him) could be the most consequential in a century

2. How, unlike any other Republican, Trump could actually fix the nation’s immigration mess

3. Why his economic platform could spark an economic revival on the scale of the Reagan boom of the 1980s (it is based on much the same plan)

4. How Trump will defend the First Amendment—guaranteeing freedom of speech and religion—against an ever more dictatorial Left

5. Why Trump’s fresh thinking on defense and foreign policy is long overdue—and could send terrorism into rapid retreat

Donald Trump is the most controversial Republican presidential candidate since Barry Goldwater, and could be the most conservative and successful president since Ronald Reagan. In her very last contribution to the conservative movement, Phyllis Schlafly, the “sweet-heart of the Silent Majority,” makes an irrefutable case that needs to be shared with every wavering voter. Nothing less than the future of our country is at stake. <!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]> <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 10]> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {"Table Normal"; ""; 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; %; "Calibri",sans-serif; } <![endif]-->

Let's face it, "The Donald" is punk rock... Wait, before you click close! Hear me out! WAIT!

- He is totally not a "sellout" to the corporations or established politics (keeping it punk)...He keeps it real and authentic which is an obsession within the "true" punk scene....

-He is anti-establishment; brash; says whatever he wants; against the status quo; individualistic; self made man

- He is DIY which is punk rock

- He gets hot young babes, which is punk rock

- He gives zero sh*ts what anyone thinks of him, he is a symbolic walking/talking middle finger to any group or person that stands in his way (the very essence of punk)

- He's edgy & dangerous, like how Tattoos used to be edgy before your mom got one. He needs to be outlawed and stopped! Or how church ladies wanted to outlaw 'rock n roll' because of its lewd and non-PC nature. In the same vain as what Elvis or James Dean used to represent 70 years or so ago..."What are you rebelling against, what do you got??"

- Not only does the Left hate him, HIS OWN PARTY HATES HIM...Now if that is not punk as f*ck, I don't know what is (also including the "mainstream" media and all "evil" corporations hate him, which makes him punk by default). He is a one man, wrecking ball & verbal machine gun to the "mainstream sellouts".

- He has never had booze, drugs, caffeine, etc. He is in the tradition of "straight edge punks" which was started by Fugazi and Minor Threat.

- He has wild, goofy hair; comparable to the punks that had mohawks or dyed hair. His hair is just as wild and original! "What's going on with your hair, bro? Nothing, just being totally Trumpunk...pussy....Get with it, original punk!"

TRUMPUNK!
He makes the Sex Pistols, GG Allin, and Iggy Pop look like children. Did you see how he destroyed Jeb Bush? That was awesome! It was like watching an Iggy Pop show as he flailed around and cried amongst broken glass. It was like watching GG Allin throw poop on people that pay money to have poop thrown on them. It was hilarious!
I would say if punks lived to maturity and were not in a constant state of perpetual adolescence (maturing past the age of 18) and "punk" was not brainwashed with lockstep, mind-numbing conformity & unflinching adherence to the group thought of the left (same with hippies and all supposed "counter cultures"); they would grow up to be Donald Trump...the ultimate rugged nonconformist and individualist living by his own rules....

Now, if you have not defriended me or reported me to the thought police.... with that said.
How about the actual book???

The book is surprisingly written well and quite simple. It is by the same author who argued for Barry Goldwater to be pres back in 64. Phyllis Schlafly puts a lot of information supporting my claim he is punk and a "outsider" who can't be bought and sold, as she explained with Goldwater (original punk rocker from the 60s) in her other good book; "A choice not an echo" (another review for that). She makes sound arguments, as she did for Goldwater also.

I would say you should read the whole book to get a solid impression, it's pretty good but here are some Trumpunk quotes from the author and her points (you probably already know...):

"Another truth that few politicians have dared utter is that illegal immigrants perpetrate a hugely disproportionate number of serious crimes, with the estimated 3.5 percent of the population is here illegally responsible for 36.7 percent of federal sentences in 2014. As Caroline May reported at Breitbart.com: "Broken down by some of the primary offenses, illegal immigrants represented 16.8 percent of drug trafficking cases, 20.0 percent of kidnapping/hostage taking, 74.1 percent of drug possession, 12.3 percent of money laundering, and 12 percent of murder convictions." p7

"As the economy changes, some sectors grow, new ones are created, and other industries die off or move somewhere else, but in international trade, there is no such thing as a truly free market; political decisions inevitably favor some industries over others, and some companies over others- in many cases the beneficiaries are foreign firms, workers, and governments. But the ideologues tend to ignore that, or downplay it, or say that countries that play such political games only hurt themselves in the long run, though that remains to be seen. Here's the theory: "Trade liberalization is about expanding markets across national boundaries and broadening the scope for specialization and economies of scale- the essential ingredients of wealth creation," a recent policy paper published by the libertarian CATO institute says. "When trade barriers come down, the factory floor can span borders and oceans, which enables production to be organized in new and more efficient formats." In fact, factory floors don't 'span borders and oceans.' That's a fancy and disingenuous way of saying the factory jobs get sent to China or Mexico." p37

"Political problems, at bottom, are religious and moral problems" p57

"...William F Buckley Jr. noted long ago when he defined a liberal as someone who claimed to be open to all points of view- and then was surprised (and outraged) that there were other points of view." p58

"The Founders designed the Supreme Court to be something very different what it is today. "The court has, over the years, the activist judges have taken on a lot of things that the court was never supposed to be doing. They're supposed to be, simply look at the law, see if it comports to the Constitution," explains Carrie Severino, Chief Counsel and policy director for the Judicial Crisis Network, a grassroots conservative group that educates and organizes citizens to fight back against the encroaching power of the federal judiciary. "But when you have a court that is taking it upon itself to read new things into the Constitution, to say we think it's evolving and we're going to put our fingers to the wind and tell you which way we think society is going. That's not what the Court was designed to do, to figure out how is society changing? How do we reflect that? The court is simply there to make sure that those laws that the elected branches pass actually are being faithfully executed and make sure the Constitution is being stuck to." p73

"I've never taken drugs of any kind, never had a glass of alcohol. Never had a cigarette, never had a cup of coffee," Trump says. This "straight edge" living is remarkable especially for a man of such wealth and success." p88

"During Obama's presidency, Muslim immigration has become the fastest-growing source of new immigrants. Yet for the most part, these people are not bringing skills or knowledge that are in demand here, and most go onto the public dole immediately. According to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, 91 percent of immigrants from the Middle East get food stamps, 73 percent receive Medicaid or other taxpayer-funded health-care benefits, and 68 percent are handed cash welfare payments. Many of these immigrants come to the United States believing in sharia law, and some, like the father of terrorist Omar Mateen, might be supporters of the Taliban; we have no way of knowing for sure. So why exactly are we bringing these people to the United States?" p117

"Obama administration seems more focused on putting women in combat than actually creating a large, well equipped, combat-ready force. 'The consistent decline in funding and the consequent shrinking of the force are putting it under significant pressure. Essential maintenance is being deferred; fewer units (mostly the Navy's platforms and the Special Operations Forces community) are being cycled through operational deployments more often and for longer periods; and old equipment is being extended while programmed replacements are problematic," reports the Heritage Foundation's 2015 Index of U.S. Military Strength. "The cumulative effect of such factors has resulted in a U.S. military that is marginally able to meet the demands of defending America's vital national interests." p125

"George Washington said, 'The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by our nation." p134

"Trump is now best known for what they are lacking: 1) getting things done, and 2) thinking and acting outside of politically correct parameters."p144

******************************************************************************Just for the record this book review was written Oct/2016...Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols' comes out of the closet and supports Trump March/2017. Rotten's support is due to his connection with the working class.

I am just saying I am wayyyy more punk rock than Johnny Rotten. I was here first, bruh! Original punk rock...

Trump is the political Sex Pistol.

I read this just to try to understand. I still don't understand. A good portion of this book is comprised of transcripts of his speeches I've already heard, and it's also a small book-- I guess the author ran out of arguments. The points he does include are not well argued and utilize fear, like when he writes: " A vote for Donald Trump is a vote against judicial tyranny. And that's something every conservative should support" (pg. 74). Goodness gracious.

Before reading:

This was published about two months before the 2016 presidential election. I'm expecting that I'll have also heard (far too many times) all the "reasons" to elect Trump. Hell, I'm in Louisiana - I'm still hearing that he actually won the 2020 election and it was just fraud that put Biden in office. 🙄 I'm reading this only because I find it useful to know what the other side says. (And because it's included in my audible membership.)

After reading:

Damn... They hit all the points: racism, forced birth, homophobia, transphobia, oppression (of Christians and conservatives), liberal colleges brainwashing young people - all of it. 🤦 It's even worse than I expected, though. They didn't even try to hide anything - except a little pretend concern for gay individuals off they thought it would get them a vote. It's just disgusting that there are people hearing this story of rhetoric and actually believing it still!

I read this book in order to better understand Trump's platform but was disappointed to find arguments that appeal to emotion and fear rather than logic, data or even theory. I did appreciate the appendices where the author included several of Trump's campaign speeches.

This book is almost comical!!! Written using many of Trump’s speeches from 2016, it attempts to make the case for a Trump presidency. The theme of the book & much of Trump’s speeches is “only I can fix things”. Many of the things Trump bragged about fixing during his 2016 campaign, he didn’t accomplish. As usually Trump offers many criticisms but has little or no plans for his “solutions”.

Schlafly makes a great case for a Trump presidency. One way of doing so is by including excerpts from Trump speeches that you won't hear on TV or see n the press. After all, the system IS rigged

Listened on audible, and while it was not an enjoyable read for me I found it helpful in understanding why some conservatives might have voted for Trump.

This is a great easy read to what Trump stands for. I would love to give a copy to every Trump hater that cannot give me a reason as to why. A very easy read and is written in layman’s terms.

Republican govern better, without question. Phillis Schlafly wrote this for the 2016 presidential election, but her wisdom and facts about the Left ring true for 2024.

Save America from the globalist Left and radical Islam! Read this book to arm yourself with facts and how great of a man Donald Trump is! You will also uncover how anti-American Obama and his cabal are!
